Chapter 99 Ethan's Beloved Grandparents
The doctor was mid-sentence when Ethan's eyes widened. He grabbed the doctor's shoulder, desperate. "Doctor, please, you have to save him! I'm begging you!" Ethan's bond with his grandparents ran deeper than with his parents. He'd never begged anyone like this before.
Ethan was rich and powerful, but for the first time, he felt utterly helpless.
The doctor said, "Mr. Yates, calm down. Your grandfather's heart condition is critical. He has maybe a month left. If we can't find a suitable heart soon, you need to be prepared."
Ethan asked, "What about my grandmother?"
"She has a severe fracture. She's stable but unconscious."
Ethan finally exhaled. "Thank you."
The doctor left, and Michael was wheeled out. Seeing his grandfather's pale face, Ethan felt a mix of heartache and guilt.
Back in the ward, Ethan held Michael's hand, his face full of remorse. "Grandpa, it's my fault for not protecting you. I will find out who did this and make them pay when you wake up."
Something must have triggered his grandfather's heart attack. He always carried heart medication, so even if he had an attack, he could control it with the medicine.
Ethan searched Michael's pockets but found no medicine bottle.
This made him even more suspicious.
Just then, Ava appeared. "Ethan, the doctor said your grandparents are going to be okay. Don't be too sad; they'll get better soon."
Ethan glared at her. "Ava, why did something happen as soon as you went to my house? Did you do something to my grandparents?"
"Ethan, if you suspect me, check the surveillance footage!" Ava said, covering her face and crying. "I was so worried about them. I called the ambulance as soon as I found them. If I wanted to harm them, why would I save them?"
Ava thought to herself, 'Even if you checked the surveillance, you wouldn't find anything because I acted in a blind spot.'
Ava continued to act weak. "I know you love Ms. Wilson, but you can't blame everything on me. What if the culprit is Ms. Wilson?"
"Shut up," Ethan said coldly, "Ashley just had a miscarriage and is still in the hospital. How could she come back to the Yates family to do evil? Besides, my grandparents treated her so well. What motive would she have?"
Ethan stepped closer, his eyes icy. "I gave you a chance to clear your name, and then this happened. Ava, if I find out it was you, there will be no mercy."
"Ethan!" Ava tried to hug him. "Please trust me. I didn't hurt them. Check the surveillance if you don't believe me!"
"Don't worry, I will!"
Ethan coldly pushed her away and walked out.
He called over two bodyguards. "Without my orders, this woman is not allowed near this ward!"
Ethan believed Ava's actions were a deliberate attempt to keep her identity as Ms. White's identity, which is why she did this. He wouldn't let Ava near his grandparents alone.
"Yes, Mr. Yates."
As soon as Ethan left, the bodyguards moved to escort Ava out. "Miss, please leave!"
They reached for her.
Ava glanced at the elderly man on the bed, her eyes dark with malice.
She cursed silently, 'You old bastard, it's a pity that you survived. But you won't live long enough to expose me!'
Ava pushed the bodyguards away, her voice sharp. "Get away; I can walk by myself!"
But Ava didn't actually leave. She avoided the cameras, wearing a hat and mask, and sneaked into the nurse's room.
She stole a nurse's uniform and pushed a cart to Michael's ward.
The bodyguards stopped her. "Miss, you can't go in."
Ava, masked and capped, lowered her voice. "The patient needs his medication. If you don't let me in and something happens, will you take responsibility?"
The bodyguards looked at each other, confused, and called Ethan for instructions. Ethan, not thinking much, said it was fine as long as it wasn't Ava.
So, they let her in.
Ava looked at the elderly man on the bed, sneered, and pulled out his oxygen tube. She then injected the wrong medication into his IV.
Michael, unconscious, couldn't feel the oxygen, and his face twisted in pain.
The more he hurt, the more Ava enjoyed it, her smile growing sinister.
"Michael, I won't let you die so easily. You'll just linger on this bed!"
She then put the oxygen mask back on him.
Seeing the liquid flow into his body, she left triumphantly...
Ethan returned to the old house and immediately ordered, "Butler, get all the surveillance footage from the house!"
"Mr. Yates, I'm sorry, but several of our cameras suddenly broke..."
