Chapter 43 Ethan's Nightmare

Ashley followed Kelsey to a scenic spot. The view was stunning, and Ashley couldn't resist snapping some photos.
Kelsey watched her closely, a mix of emotions flickering in her eyes.
Suddenly, a cold, sinister look crossed Kelsey's face. Ashley was standing at the edge of a cliff; one push, and she'd fall into the abyss...
Ashley turned around, catching the complex emotion in Kelsey's eyes, and immediately felt on edge.
Seeing her turn so suddenly, Kelsey quickly plastered on a friendly smile. "Mrs. Yates, I'm curious, how did you and Mr. Yates meet? No offense, I just love a good story."
Ashley raised an eyebrow, her suspicion confirmed.
She definitely liked Ethan!
Even in her forties, she still had her charm.
Ashley smiled lightly. "Your Majesty, Ethan and I met because of a misunderstanding."
"That's quite a story. If I may ask, do you love Mr. Yates?"
Ashley was stunned for a moment, then smiled. "Of course."
It was a lie. How could she love Ethan? They barely knew each other. She didn't get why Kelsey was asking, but to avoid trouble for Ethan, she played along.
A complex emotion flashed in Kelsey's eyes, but she kept her friendly smile. "I wish you both the best and hope you grow old together!"
'As long as they don't take what's hers...' Kelsey muttered under her breath.
"Thank you, Your Majesty."
Kelsey smiled slightly. "Let's head to the next spot."
"Alright, Your Majesty."
After getting in the car, Ashley found Ethan asleep. She reached out to touch his forehead and was startled.
"Oh no, he has a fever."
Ashley felt a pang of guilt.
Kelsey looked concerned. "I'll have the royal physician treat him immediately."
The doctor took Ethan's temperature; it was 102°F. Kelsey quickly arranged for a car to rush Ethan to the hospital.
At the hospital, Ethan lay unconscious on the bed, tormented by nightmares, his face twisted in pain.
In Ethan's dream.
He dreamt of being kidnapped in the Rocky Mountains over a decade ago—
In a dark cave, two children were bound hand and foot, their mouths taped shut, unable to make a sound.
A man walked in holding a candle. Ethan's eyes widened in fear as he tried to struggle and escape.
The man spat at him and kicked him to the side. "Spare your effort."
Ethan's stomach ached from the kick. He glared at the man, his eyes burning with anger and a hint of murderous intent.
But the man ignored him, turning his gaze to a little girl, his eyes filled with evil intent.
The little girl screamed and struggled. Ethan was terrified. Ignoring the pain in his abdomen, he rolled desperately towards the man and kicked him with all his might.
The man, furious, picked up a rock and was about to smash it down on Ethan!
Suddenly, the little girl, with a burst of strength, jumped over and knocked the man down. The man's head hit a sharp rock, and he immediately bled profusely and passed out.
In the dim candlelight, a small knife lay beside the man. The little girl picked it up, quickly cutting the rope around her wrist, freeing herself.
The little girl stumbled over to Ethan and said, "My name is Hayes. Let's get out of here!"
She tore the tape off his mouth and used the knife to cut the rope on his hands. Just then, footsteps sounded outside the cave.
The two were terrified.
The little girl shoved the knife into Ethan's hand and said, "I'll distract them. You cut the rope and run!"
With that, the little girl ran off. Young Ethan shouted after her, "Hayes, what's your full name?!"
But the little girl had already run far away and didn't hear him.
Ethan didn't have time to think. He quickly cut the rope and ran out of the cave. The sunlight stung his eyes. Just as he was about to run, he heard a man shout, "You little brat, you can't escape..."
At that moment, the cute little girl rushed over and pushed the man down. Before Ethan could react, the girl grabbed his hand and they ran for their lives...
They didn't know how long they ran, but they finally hid, panting, in a dense thicket.
Young Ethan asked, "Hayes, I asked for your full name earlier, but you didn't tell me. When I get home, I want to repay you."
The little girl's eyes flashed with guilt. "My name is Ava Lee. Hayes is my nickname."
The scene shifted to three years later.
Ethan finally found the girl who had saved him back then. Her name was Ava Lee!
Ashley saw Ethan frowning in his sleep and gently massaged his brow. "Having a nightmare? Why are you frowning even in your sleep?"
"Ethan, don't be afraid. I'll always be with you..."
Ethan seemed to hear an angelic voice in his ear, and his eyelids twitched slightly...
