Chapter 159 Ashley Never Backs Down

Ashley laughed in frustration but kept her cool. "I'm Ethan's wife. He calls you Aunt Catherine, so I do too. I didn't have a family before, but now I have one with Ethan."

"If you don't want me to call you Aunt Catherine, fine. But if people think the Yates family has no manners, Ethan's the one who looks bad."

Catherine glared at her. "You've got quite the mouth. If you weren't partially disabled, I'd slap you to teach you a lesson."

Ashley dropped her smile. "This is our first meeting. Why are you so hostile? I haven't done anything to you."

Catherine scoffed. "You offended me by not bringing a gift when meeting an elder. Shows you're a brat with no manners."

Ethan was in the dining room but couldn't stop worrying about Ashley. Even with his favorite dishes in front of him, he had no appetite.

George noticed and laughed. "Why do you keep looking outside? Worried my mom might bully your wife?"

Ethan said, "I'm just worried Ashley might need help. I should go check on her."

"Ethan, you're a big deal. Your time is precious. Let my mom handle it; she'll take care of your wife."

Just as Ethan was about to get up, George pulled him back into his chair.

Ethan sighed and said, "Show some respect. Call her Ashley."

George shrugged.

Even though Ethan was in the kitchen, his mind was on Ashley. He trusted Catherine wouldn't be too harsh, but he still felt uneasy.

In the living room, Ashley didn't let Catherine's jabs bother her. But being called a 'brat with no manners' stung.

Her eyes darkened, and she coldly said, "Are you looking down on orphans?"

Catherine sneered, "So what if I am? Why should I respect you?"

"I wasn't raised by parents, but I was taught that everyone has value. All individuals are created equal."

"You wear fancy clothes and have status, but calling me a brat shows how vulgar you are."

"You!"

Catherine was speechless with anger.

"I heard you were visiting, so Ethan and I got you some gifts. But you didn't give me a chance to speak and sent Ethan away."

"So, you're saying it's my fault?"

Catherine didn't expect Ashley to be so sharp. Despite looking embarrassed, Ashley stood her ground.

Catherine felt a bit of admiration but quickly masked it. "What gifts did you bring? Let me see."

Ashley said, "Thomas, could you bring the gifts over?"

"Yes, Mrs. Yates."

Thomas instructed the servants to bring the gifts. Just then, Ethan couldn't stay in the dining room any longer. He walked out and saw the maids presenting the gifts.

Catherine looked at the gift boxes in surprise. "Is this... Chanel's latest limited edition skincare set?"

"I heard this set costs fifty thousand dollars and is hard to get. How did you manage to buy it?"
