Chapter 257 A Huge Misunderstanding
Ivy had barely stepped outta the lab when her phone buzzed.
"Mrs. Yates, something's up. Felicity just passed out," her assistant blurted out.
Ivy's eyes didn't show a hint of worry, but there was a spark in them as she asked, "Why'd she faint?"
"We rushed her to Haven Hospital. They're running tests now."
Well, ain't that a twist of fate? Ivy was already at Haven Hospital. "Give me her room number and make sure she's okay. She might be pregnant!"
"Got it."
After hanging up, Ivy glanced back at the lab and decided to swing by.
The lab docs were all busy in the equipment area, testing blood samples. Ivy snuck in and overheard two of them chatting, "It's weird, Mr. Yates and Mr. White are both doing DNA tests with Ms. Wilson at the same time. Did they plan this? Why separately?"
"Beats me," the other doc replied.
Ivy felt like she'd been hit by a truck.
Back when Ashley and Landon White—Liam's brothers—were doing the test, she had meddled, stopping Ashley from reuniting with her family.
But Liam hadn't thrown in the towel and still thought of Ashley as his sister!
And now, even Ethan was getting suspicious.
Ivy's heart raced, and she was at a loss. Not wanting to get caught by the docs, she slipped out quietly.
Now wasn't the time to mess with things; she needed a game plan.
Just as she was heading to the elevator, a woman rushed over and bumped into her shoulder.
Ivy snapped, "Watch it!"
The woman turned around, full of apologies, "Ma'am, I was in a hurry and didn't see you. I'm really sorry."
The woman seemed genuinely sorry, and when they locked eyes, both were taken aback.
"Yara?"
"...Ivy..."
Ivy gave Yara a once-over. Over the years, Yara had ditched her schoolgirl look and was now all woman.
"Why the rush? Something happen?" Ivy asked.
Back in the day, Yara had chased after Ethan like a madwoman, making it the talk of Aurora. If she was with Ethan now...
While Ivy was plotting, Yara said, "Ivy, my daughter had an accident. I'm here to see her."
Hearing she had a daughter, Ivy's smile froze and turned icy, "Didn't know Ms. Lopez got hitched. When'd you have a daughter?"
Yara's face went red, looking all flustered and not knowing what to say when the elevator doors slid open.
She pointed at the elevator and mumbled, "Uh, the elevator's here. I gotta go."
Ivy snorted, clearly annoyed that her plan had hit a snag.
They both stepped into the elevator, and wouldn't you know it, they were headed to the same floor. They got out one after the other, with Yara heading to room 38 and Ivy to room 60. Ivy's curiosity got the better of her, so she quietly trailed behind Yara.
Room 38
Ethan was looking at the unconscious Nora and said to Ashley, "The cops have contacted Nora's mom. She'll be here soon to take care of her. We should bounce."
Ashley nodded. "Let's wait a bit. We'll leave once her mom gets here and we hand things over."
Just as she finished talking, there was a knock on the door.
Liam said, "Speak of the devil, I'll get it."
Liam got up to open the door, and when it swung open, he and Yara locked eyes, both looking like deer caught in headlights.
Ethan came to the door and, seeing Yara's stiff expression, gave her a once-over and asked coldly, "You Nora's mom?"
Yara snapped out of it at the sound of Ethan's voice.
Turning her head, she saw her old crush, and her face turned beet red, wishing she could just disappear.
She blinked, looking from Liam to Ethan, feeling totally mortified.
"Ma'am, why are you just standing there? Come in and sit!" Ashley said.
"Just call me Yara."
Ashley noticed the awkward vibe between the three of them and invited Yara in to break the tension.
Yara finally snapped out of it, noticing the stunningly beautiful woman in front of her, feeling a bit taken aback.
She followed Ashley into the room, looking at the unconscious Nora, feeling both guilty and worried.
"Yara, I gotta go now. Don't worry, Nora will be okay. I'll visit her another day. Here's my number, call me if you need anything. I'm out." Ashley handed over a business card, which Yara took.
Yara stood up and bowed a little, "Thanks for looking after Nora. She's a handful and always getting into trouble. I'll bring her by to thank you properly another day."
"No need to be so formal. Just take care of her. See you later." Ashley smiled.
"Goodbye."
The three were about to leave when Ashley noticed Liam still staring at Nora like he was in a trance. She grabbed his arm and pulled him away. "Liam, let's go."
