Yara let Nora have her blood drawn again without any fuss, and Ashley handed over the blood Ethan brought to the doctor. By the time everything was sorted out, it was already past nine at night.
The doctor said, "Come back in ten days to get the test results!"
Ashley nodded, "Got it."
She glanced at Yara, who was looking down, and said, "Ms. Lopez, thanks for cooperating. I'll have Nick drive you home."
As they talked, they reached the entrance where Nick was waiting by the fancy car.
Nick opened the door, "Please, get in."
Yara looked a bit awkward, "No need, we'll grab a cab. We don't want to trouble Mrs. Yates."
Ashley didn't push it, "Alright then."
She got into the car, and Nick drove off.
Yara stared at the spot where Ashley had left. Nora said, "Mommy, I feel like Ashley doesn't like me as much since everyone found out I'm Ethan's kid."
Yara patted her head and sighed, "Let's go."
Who would have been nice to an illegitimate child? Ashley wasn't completely without feelings, but she wasn't going to deal with Yara and Nora either.
They went their separate ways.
Ashley got back to the White Mansion, and after freshening up, her phone rang. It was Ethan.
Ashley answered, "Hey."
Ethan sounded shocked, "Honey, how could Nora be my kid? What's going on?"
Ashley didn't expect him to find out so soon. She figured Nick must have told him. Since he knew, she decided to be blunt.
Ashley snorted, clearly annoyed, "Isn't she from one of your old flings? Don't you remember anything?"
Ethan sounded a bit angry, "I've never messed around, and you know that! Lots of gold diggers try to get close to me. This has to be a setup. Can't you trust me a little more?"
The more Ethan talked, the angrier he got. He had just gone on a business trip, and now this illegitimate child thing popped up! After Nick looked into it, he found out it had been kept from Ethan for days, and Ashley had even gone to his old school to investigate.
Hearing his tone, Ashley got mad too, "I trust you, that's why I had you bring blood and hair follicles to redo the test. Otherwise, I would've thrown divorce papers at you already!"
Ethan felt like his head was about to explode. He snapped, "Ashley! You want to divorce me?"
A trace of guilt flashed in Ashley's eyes, "No, I was just speaking out of anger!"
She couldn't bear the thought of divorcing him.
Hearing this, Ethan breathed a sigh of relief but felt even more upset.
Ashley muttered, "Anyway, the paternity test reports for you and Nora are both valid. Medical science can't be faked, right?"
Saying this, Ashley felt a pang of bitterness.
Ethan hesitated for a moment, "When did the test report come out? How come I didn't know I did a paternity test with Nora?"
Ashley thought for a moment and said, "It should have been after the amusement park incident. Liam and I secretly did the test. It turned out there was also a paternity test report for you and Nora. Liam brought the report back several days ago, and I just saw the results!"
Ethan frowned and muttered to himself, "That was more than half a month ago."
Ashley nodded, "Yes."
Ethan asked, "I remember that time. I suspected you were the long-lost daughter of the White family and specifically asked the doctor to take your and Liam's blood for DNA testing. How could there be a paternity test report for me? Who had me and Nora tested?"
This question left Ashley dumbfounded!
After a long pause, Ashley slowly said, "Oh my God, I didn't think about it that way. When did you and Nora do a paternity test, and who did it for you? Now that I think about it, it seems like a conspiracy!"
Ethan didn't even know Nora was his child, so he couldn't have done the paternity test himself. Who secretly did the test then?
For a moment, both of them fell into deep thought.
Ethan sneered, "It seems someone is messing with us."
With Ethan's reminder, Ashley also realized something was off from the beginning. After thinking it over, she said, "But no matter whose scheme it is, Yara later admitted that you two had a relationship and that Nora was her secret child!"
Ethan said without hesitation, "That's impossible! She's lying!"
Ashley frowned, "Why would she lie?"
Ethan was speechless, "How would I know!"
The two fell silent again.
After a while, Ethan said, "Anyway, I never touched Yara, and Nora is not my child. As for who had the paternity test done, I've already asked Nick to investigate."
Ashley looked at the clock; it was already past ten in the evening. She wondered if Nick could find any clues at the hospital at this hour.
Ethan said gloomily, "Mrs. Yates, please trust me a bit more. Don't you know if there are other women around me?"
