Chapter 356 Staying at the White Mansion for a Few Days

Evening

The White family

The White family had prepared a grand feast. Upon Ashley's arrival, Landon greeted her warmly, "Ashley, why are you alone? Where's Ethan?"

A flicker of emotion passed through Ashley's eyes as she responded, "He's busy with work at the company, so I came alone."

Landon said, "Alright then, the food is on the table. Let's go to the dining room." Landon suggested.

Ashley then inquired, "Landon, I'll be staying at the White mansion for the next few days. Will that be a bother for you?"

Landon's smile was reassuring, "Of course not, this is your home. Stay as long as you like."

The two walked into the dining room side by side. Liam, Yara, and Nora were already there, but the atmosphere between them seemed somewhat subtle.

Nora's joyful cry of "Ashley!" filled the room as she rushed over to embrace Ashley tightly. Ashley affectionately ruffled her hair.

Yara, stepping forward, cautioned, "Nora, be careful not to hurt the baby in Ashley's belly."

Apologizing, Nora said, "I was too excited to see Ashley and forgot. Ashley, I didn't mean to."

"It's okay, I'm not that fragile." Ashley reassured her.

As they spoke, Ashley's gaze met Yara's. Although they had misunderstandings before, which led to some strained feelings, after clearing things up, Ashley and Yara exchanged a smile.

"Ashley, come sit." Yara offered.

"Okay, I'm coming." Ashley replied.

While settling at the table, Ashley looked around but didn't see Felicity. She assumed Landon didn't allow her to sit at the table, but she didn't ask.

The family savored the meal together.

Yara served Ashley a bowl of chicken, saying, "Ashley, now that you're pregnant, you should eat more chicken. It's rich in protein and good for nutrition."

Ashley was surprised, "So much, how can I finish it?"

"Take your time," Yara said. "By the way, have you had any pregnancy symptoms?"

Drawing from her own experiences, Yara sought to offer Ashley some guidance.

Ashley shared, "At first, I had nausea and vomiting, but after taking vitamins, I stopped vomiting. However, I still get tired easily."

Ashley glanced at Liam and raised her eyebrows slightly, "Yara, was it tough when you were pregnant with Nora?"

Upon hearing the question, Liam paused for a moment but then continued eating, seemingly unaffected by the conversation.

Yara recounted, "When I was pregnant with Nora, it was quite a struggle. I had morning sickness, dizziness, and felt weak all over. Later on, she moved around like a fish in my belly, making it hard for me to breathe. I had to go to the hospital for oxygen every day. When I got busy with work, I bought a portable oxygen tank to use when I felt suffocated."

Ashley inquired further, "Yara, you were still working while pregnant?"

Yara instinctively glanced at Liam, who maintained an indifferent expression.

Her eyes dimming, Yara confessed, "Yes, raising a child costs a lot of money, so I continued working."

"Liam," Ashley secretly kicked Liam under the table, whispering, "Yara has worked hard all these years. You should appreciate her efforts."

Liam kept his head down, his thoughts concealed behind lowered eyes.

Liam remained silent.

A trace of disappointment flashed in Yara's eyes.

The atmosphere became a bit awkward.

Landon interjected, breaking the tension, "Let's eat."

Ashley acquiesced with a shrug, "Alright."

After dinner, Ashley played with Nora in the garden, Yara went to the kitchen to prepare fruit, and Landon and Liam were having coffee.

Liam's gaze softened as he watched the lively and endearing Nora.

Landon asked, "Liam, why did you marry Yara? Didn't you have someone you liked?"

Liam was slightly taken aback, "We had a child, so of course, we got married."

Landon frowned, "Haven't you contacted Samantha?"

Perplexed, Liam replied, "Why would I contact her?"

Landon was left speechless, his heart stirred by an unknown feeling.

Yara came out of the kitchen with a fruit platter and overheard the brothers' conversation. Landon's question sparked a glimmer of hope in her, only to be extinguished by Liam's response, leaving her eyes clouded with sadness and self-derision.

Gathering herself, Yara feigned composure. "The fruit is ready. I'll go call Ashley and the others to eat." she announced, masking her inner turmoil.

Liam inquired nervously, "When did you come out?"

Yara's eyes were cold. She wanted to say, "When you said you married me because of the child," but after thinking about it, she restrained herself, responding instead, "Just now. I'll shall go ahead."

With a heavy heart, Yara hastened to locate Ashley and the others.

Meanwhile

Ashley and Nora were playing in the garden. Nora confided, "Ashley, my parents argue every day. Dad makes mom cry all the time. If I had known this, I wouldn't have wanted a dad!"

Perplexed, Ashley questioned, "Didn't they just get married? Why the fights?"

Nora's expression turned desolate as she replied, "Dad blames mom for secretly giving birth to me. Ashley, is my existence causing trouble for dad?"
