Chapter 358 Honey, I Love You
Hearing Ethan's affectionate words, Ashley couldn't help but smile. "So if I stop breathing, you'll stay up rest of your life?"
Upon hearing this, Ethan frowned. "Nonsense, how could you suddenly stop breathing? If you keep talking like that, I'll kiss you until you can't talk anymore."
Blushing, Ashley playfully admitted, "Honey, I was wrong. I won't say such things again."
Only then did Ethan feel relieved. Although Ashley's words were light-hearted, for some reason, Ethan had a vague sense of foreboding.
"Ashley!" Nora's voice came from the door.
"Come in." Ashley replied.
Nora entered the room and announced, "Ashley, I did what you said and locked Dad and Mom in a room together. They won't be able to come out tonight. Does that mean I'll have a little brother to play with next year?"
Ethan, hearing this from the other side of the screen, clicked his tongue and remarked, "Honey, you're teaching the kids bad things. You're quite mischievous yourself."
Ashley replied, "No way, Liam and Yara have misunderstandings. I'm just giving them a chance to spend time together."
Nora leaned in closer to the screen, her eyes bright with joy. "Ethan, long time no see."
"Nora, be good. let the adults handle their affairs. It's not for us kids to meddle." Ethan admonished.
Hearing this, Ashley pouted unhappily, almost sticking her lips out.
Nora protested, "But they argue every day and can't communicate properly. Ashley is right; talking too much is a waste of time. It's better to get straight to the point and understand each other deeply!"
Hearing the words "understand each other deeply," Ethan's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Honey, did you even explain this to Nora? Does she know what it means?"
Looking disheartened, Ashley addressed Nora, "Nora, do you know what it means?"
Nora thought carefully for a moment and then innocently replied, "It should mean that after they argue and get annoyed with each other, locking them in a room for a night will give them enough time to understand each other's inner thoughts."
Amused, Ashley chuckled. "You're right, that's exactly what it means. Ethan is just overreacting."
Ethan rubbed his forehead, appearing slightly overwhelmed.
As they awaited the arrival of the baby, Ethan made a mental note to ensure Ashley didn't lead the child astray.
"Ashley, where am I sleeping tonight?" Ethan inquired.
"You'll sleep with me." Ashley replied with a warm smile.
"Okay." Nora agreed eagerly.
With that, Ashley took Nora to the bathroom to wash up, then tucked her into bed, then proceeded to freshen up herself.
A moment later, she came out of the bathroom.
She picked up her phone, ready to sleep, but found that Ethan's video call was still on, though he wasn't in the frame. Ashley thought he was probably washing up too.
"Ashley, is the baby in your belly a boy or a girl?" Nora asked curiously.
Ashley gently touched her hair and replied softly, "I don't know yet. We'll check when the baby is a bit bigger."
"Check for what? Whether it's a boy or a girl, as long as it's our child, I will love them. Let's not check; it'll be like opening a surprise box. Honey, don't you think?" Ethan's voice came through.
Ashley saw Ethan reappear on the video, wearing pajamas and drying his hair with a towel.
Ashley smiled with her eyes. "Yes."
"Ethan, Mom says prenatal education is very important. Do you want to tell the baby a story? They can hear your voice." Nora advised, Nora advised, her eyes shining with a serious gleam.
Ethan appeared doubtful. "Really?"
Ashley affirmed, "Yes, prenatal education is very important."
Ethan decided, "Then I'll tell the kids a story. Once upon a time..."
As Ethan's voice droned on through the phone, narrating the story in a monotonous tone. Nora found it so boring that she yawned and fell asleep.
Ethan's voice continued in her ears, giving Ashley a strong sense of security. Feeling sleepy, she soon fell asleep too.
It was quite a while before Ethan's narrative ended, and he couldn't wait to ask Ashley for praise. "Honey, did I tell the story well?"
"Honey?"
On the phone, Ashley's even breathing could be heard. Ethan beamed with contentment and bid her, "Honey, good night. Sweet dreams!"
Ethan walked to the window, looking at the starry sky, imagining a simple and happy life with Ashley and their children. His smile grew deeper.
His heart felt as sweet as if it were filled with maple syrup.
Ethan lay on the lounge chair, gazing at the stars and speaking into the phone. "Honey, I love you!"
Listening to Ashley's even breathing on the other end of the call, Ethan also drifted into sleep.
In the middle of the night
Felicity was seized by a sharp pang in her lower abdomen. As she struggled to leave the bedroom, she was stopped by two bodyguards.
"Ms. Zito, Landon instructed that you are not allowed to go anywhere these days!" one of the bodyguards blocked her way.
In anguish, Felicity implored, "Tell him my stomach hurts. I need to go to the hospital."
The two bodyguards exchanged glances. One stayed to guard her while the other went to report.
Landon was about to sleep when he heard the bodyguard's report. He sneered, "Felicity must be up to no good again. Pay her no mind."
The pain in Felicity's abdomen grew stronger, and a streak of blood ran down her leg. Fear drained the color from her face.
"Move aside, I'm bleeding. I need to go to the hospital!" she plead weakly.
"Ms. Zito, Landon said you can't leave here." the bodyguards insisted.
Felicity pleaded desperately again, "I beg you, get Landon here quickly. The baby is in danger!"
Seeing the blood on her leg, the bodyguard dared not delay and ran back to get Landon. Hearing the news, Landon put on his coat and went to Felicity's place.
"What happened?" Landon's voice sounded somewhat impatient.
"Landon, Ms. Zito is bleeding and has passed out from the pain." the bodyguard reported.
"Prepare the car, we're going to the hospital!" Landon exclaimed.
