Chapter 331 Don't Believe Everything You Hear
When Ethan finally got back to the Yates Mansion, it was already super late.
Ashley had been extra sleepy ever since she got pregnant.
After getting ready for bed, Ashley lay there waiting for Ethan for a while. When he still hadn't shown up, she dozed off. Half-asleep, she felt someone slide into bed next to her.
She cracked her eyes open and mumbled, "Hey, you're back? What time is it?"
Ethan gently stroked her head and said softly, "It's already eleven. Did I wake you? Sorry about that. I'll try to get home earlier from now on."
Ashley shifted, hugged him tight, and shook her head, "No worries, babe. You've been working hard."
Ethan wrapped one arm around her and gently stroked her belly with the other, his voice full of tenderness, "Sweetheart."
Ashley murmured back.
Ethan continued, "Tomorrow, no matter what happens, you gotta trust me, okay?"
Ashley looked up at him, confused. His eyes were deep and sharp, but she could sense his exhaustion.
She snuggled closer and nodded, "Of course, I trust you!"
Ethan smiled, kissed her forehead, and said, "Good night, love."
Ashley smiled back, "Goodnight, babe!"
They fell asleep in each other's arms.
But while they were sleeping, someone anonymously dropped a bombshell online, claiming Ethan had an illegitimate child, complete with photos and evidence!
This person was thorough, posting paternity test results and candid photos. In the pics, Ethan was seen holding hands with Nora, interacting with her, while Yara stood nearby, labeled as the third party in big, bold letters!
The internet went wild. Some people cursed Ethan for hiding a kid during his marriage, while others went after Yara!
Soon, this gossip was all over Facebook's trending list.
Then, another anonymous post hit the web.
It claimed Ethan's wife, Ashley, was infertile, and even included her medical report.
This stirred up even more drama.
Some folks even speculated that Ethan was desperate and blamed Ashley's infertility.
In short, the comments were all over the place!
At the Addison Mansion
Catherine, seeing the news, immediately called George, who was abroad, "George, have you seen the news? Ethan has an illegitimate child. It's gone viral, and everyone knows. What do you think?"
"Ethan has an illegitimate child?" George thought for a moment and said, "I can't see the domestic news. Can you give me a quick rundown?"
Catherine filled him in on the key points. He was silent for a moment, then said, "Looks like someone wants to take Ethan down, releasing all this dirt on him!"
Catherine asked, "Who could it be?"
George sneered, "Doesn't matter who it is. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. This is gonna get ugly, and one side's gotta lose. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show."
"Got it." Catherine suddenly remembered something and said, "George, Ethan broke his promise before, and Josselin was really pissed. The list of partners for the second round of financing hasn't been announced yet. Does Josselin have other options?"
George replied, "Mom, for the second round of financing, I need to make sure Josselin invests in us! Leave it to me, and don't make any moves on your own!"
"Okay, I understand." Catherine nodded.
They hung up, each lost in their own thoughts.
The next morning
Ethan and Ashley were still asleep when a bunch of frantic phone calls woke them up. Annoyed, Ethan answered with a grumpy, "What's up?"
Nick's anxious voice came through, "Mr. Yates, we've got a big problem."
Ethan asked, "What is it?"
Nick said, "Someone exposed online that you have an illegitimate child and that Mrs. Yates is infertile!"
Ethan raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'Wow, that escalated quickly. Ivy must've jumped the gun!'
Ethan nonchalantly said, "Anything else?"
"Mr. Yates, the Yates Group's board meeting is in chaos. You need to come to the office!" Nick was frantic.
Ethan calmly asked, "What's the reason?"
Nick explained, "First, it's about the second round of central financing. Second, there's the issue concerning your illegitimate child. Third, it's about Mrs. Yates's infertility. Some people want to impeach you and make you step down as CEO of the Yates Group."
Hearing this, Ethan sneered, "Got it. I'll be there soon."
Ashley woke up, "Honey, what's going on?"
Ethan gently patted her head and said, "Nothing serious. I need to go to the office to handle something. You stay home. The nutritionist will come today and prepare a healthy meal for you."
Ashley said, "I know."
When it came to cooking, Ashley was quite the expert.
Ethan got up, and before leaving, he said, "Honey, don't go online today, okay?"
"Okay." Ashley helped Ethan straighten his tie and kissed him on the cheek, "Thanks for working so hard. I'll make a big dinner for you tonight."
Ethan hugged her and gave her a long kiss. It wasn't until Ashley was breathless that he reluctantly let her go.
Seeing her flushed face, Ethan gave a devilish smile, "I'm off."
Ashley reminded him, "Drive safe."
She stood at the door, watching him leave. After the car was out of sight, she snapped back to reality, puzzled, "Why doesn't he want me to go online? Did something big happen?"
Curiosity got the best of her. Even though she promised Ethan, she couldn't resist and picked up her phone to check the news. Every platform was blowing up with stories about Ethan's illegitimate child.
