Chapter 566 Ashley's Interview
"Darling, why don't you head to the palace first?" Ashley suggested after they finished breakfast.
Ethan looked puzzled. "Weren't you planning to join the discussion panel? We might as well go together since we're heading the same way."
"It's an open recruitment with many applicants. I don't want people saying I got in through connections."
"I see," Ethan smiled. "Then I'll have Ian take me back to the palace."
Ashley nodded firmly. "When I come for the interview, please don't call me 'darling.' Pretend you don't know me."
Pretend not to know her? Ethan reluctantly agreed. "Well, I'll try my best."
Ian approached to wheel Ethan out. As they left, Ethan turned back. "Take care on your way, darling."
"I will. You be careful too."
After watching Ethan leave, Ashley changed into a sharp business suit, tied her hair in a ponytail, and applied subtle makeup. She looked both beautiful and formidable.
Once ready, Ashley prepared her resume and headed to the recruitment venue.
Upon arrival, she was stunned by the massive crowd. "Wow, there are so many people!"
She muttered to herself, and a nearby young woman responded, "Are you applying too?"
Ashley nodded. "Yes."
"The palace never recruits externally—this is the first time ever. It's a rare opportunity, so everyone's desperate for one of the two positions. Some are genuine applicants, others just curious spectators like me."
"I see." Ashley responded absently, realizing that with so many people ahead, she might be waiting for days.
"They're giving out number tickets over there. You can get one, submit your resume online, and include a recorded self-introduction."
"Thank you," Ashley said gratefully.
Following the instructions, she received ticket number 7777—lucky numbers, but the wait would be endless.
Estimating a long delay, Ashley found a nearby café. She ordered coffee, organized her resume, and when no one was looking, recorded a short video to submit with her application.
Now all she could do was wait and hope someone would notice her.
In the conference room, Ethan sat at the head of the table as staff began their report.
He said, "Your Highness, we've had over ten thousand applicants for these two positions. After several rounds of screening, we've narrowed it down to one hundred exceptional candidates. Here are their files for your review."
Ethan accepted the documents and began examining them.
"Your Highness, you might want to select a few for personal interviews."
Ethan's eyebrows raised when he reached Ashley's file. He pulled it out, continued browsing, and then spotted a familiar woman.
This woman was...
After careful consideration, he remembered—wasn't she a nurse from the hospital? Why was she applying for the discussion panel?
His eyes narrowed dangerously as he removed Isabella's resume and tossed it into the trash.
Callum watched silently. He had secretly marked Isabella's resume with a small red dot.
"Your Highness," Callum interjected, "I've reviewed that resume. This Isabella has impressive qualifications. Perhaps you should interview her."
"That won't be necessary," Ethan replied coldly.
Callum was confused. "Why not?"
Ethan looked up with piercing eyes. "Do you know this Isabella? Otherwise, why are you advocating for her?"
Callum's gaze flickered as he lowered his eyes. "No... I don't know her at all!"
Ethan scoffed. "Good. This woman has questionable character. I won't allow her on the discussion panel."
Callum was mortified. His precious daughter had just been called untrustworthy. If anyone else had said this, he would have confronted them immediately. But since it came from the Prince, he could only swallow his anger.
"I've selected about a dozen candidates. Please notify them for interviews," Ethan instructed.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Back at the café, Ashley received notification to appear for an interview at three o'clock. Overjoyed, she immediately texted Ethan the good news.
Meanwhile, across from her, Isabella received a message from her father. She slammed her fist on the table in rage. "What a pretentious prince! Questionable character? Your whole family is questionable!"
