Chapter 119 Inquiring About the Past

"Alright, ma'am," the driver said, turning the car towards the Zito family home.

Ivy stared out the window, lost in thought. 'So what if Ashley's from the White family? She can't even have kids. I have no choice but to find my son another wife!'

Ethan returned to the hospital room where the doctor had already finished the discharge paperwork. They packed up quickly and headed back to the Yates Mansion.

Ethan was extra gentle, making sure Ashley, who had limited mobility, was comfortable.

Soon, they arrived at the Yates Mansion. Thomas greeted them, "Welcome home, Mr. Yates, Mrs. Ashley Yates."

Ethan got out, carried Ashley, and placed her in a wheelchair. "Where's my mom?"

"Mr. Yates, didn't Mrs. Ivy Yates say she was going to visit Mrs. Ashley Yates at the hospital? Didn't she come back with you?"

Ethan frowned. "If she didn't come back, so be it. Get a few servants to take care of Ashley."

"Alright."

Ethan pushed Ashley inside, ignoring his buzzing phone to avoid jostling her.

Ashley said, "Ethan, if you have work, go ahead. Don't worry about me."

Ethan replied, "I do have some projects to finalize at the company."

"Then you should go."

Ethan gently stroked her hair. "Alright, call me if you need anything."

"Okay, be safe."

Ethan gave Thomas detailed instructions to care for Ashley before leaving.

After Ethan left, Ashley asked Thomas, "Thomas, can you tell me what happened between Ethan and his parents? Why is their relationship so strained?"

Thomas looked uncomfortable. "Well..."

"Don't you trust me? I just want to help mend their relationship. Ethan really craves family affection."

Thomas nodded. "You're right. Mr. Ethan Yates is very sentimental. He was practically raised by Mr. Michael Yates. As for his parents..."

Thomas sighed. "James is a womanizer, always surrounded by women. And..."

Thomas hesitated.

Ashley understood. The Yates family had a dark secret: illegitimate children. James's actions suggested there might be more than one, hidden away like skeletons in the closet.

"Mrs. Ivy Yates and Mr. James Yates had an arranged marriage with little affection, but they lived in harmony until they had their second daughter. Then they had a big fight and divorced. I don't know the exact reason."

Ashley speculated, "Could it be that Dad had another woman, and Mom couldn't take it anymore, so she divorced him?"

"If that were the case, Mr. Ethan Yates would only hate his father. But he resents both of them. They must have both done something wrong."

"In any case, this marriage was a failure. Mr. Ethan Yates appears fine but is very sensitive and needs love."

Thomas looked at Ashley. "Mrs. Ashley Yates, you must treat Mr. Ethan Yates well. He's craving to be loved."

Ashley blushed. "I will. I love him."

If she weren't so immobile, she'd cling to Ethan all day long.

"That's great. As long as Mr. Ethan Yates has your love, I'm relieved."

Thomas, now in his seventies, had watched Ethan grow up. He had never seen Ethan care so tenderly for any woman.

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of him," Ashley said. "I'm feeling a bit tired. Could someone take me back to rest?"

"Alright."

Ashley, unable to move much, felt like an invalid. All she could do was eat and sleep.

"Mrs. Ashley Yates, someone asked me to give this to you," a maid said, handing her a note.
