Chapter 270 Suspecting the Car Accident Was Intentional

Ashley was chillin' in the office, goin' through some papers when she stumbled on some shady stuff. The docs showed that in two investment gigs in Maridia, Josselin had bailed halfway and left the partner bankrupt.

Ashley freaked out and was about to hit up Ethan when her phone buzzed.

"Yo, Diannel, what's up?"

"Mrs. Yates, Mr. Yates got into a car accident," Diannel said.

Ashley jumped up. "What? How'd that happen? Where is he? Is he okay?"

"Don't stress, Mrs. Yates. Mr. Yates is at the hospital, just some minor cuts. I'll text you the address."

Hearing Ethan was mostly fine, Ashley let out a big sigh of relief.

She grabbed her keys and sped to the hospital.

When she got there, Ethan's wrist was all bandaged up. Ashley rushed over. "Babe, what the heck happened? Are you really okay? This is nuts!"

Seeing the bloodstains on his gauze, Ashley's heart broke. She wished she could take his pain away.

Ethan saw her about to lose it and pulled her into a hug, "Babe."

During the crash, a bunch of faces flashed in his mind—his grandparents who raised him, and of course, Ashley. He couldn't stop thinking about her.

Seeing her now, Ethan couldn't hold back and hugged her tight, like he never wanted to let go.

"Babe, I can't breathe," Ashley gasped. Ethan loosened his grip a bit.

Ethan said, "Babe, I was so scared. If something happened to me and I saw you remarrying from the afterlife, I'd probably crawl out of my grave."

Ashley smacked his mouth, "Don't talk like that! You're fine, so stop it!"

Ethan chuckled, "Just messin' with ya. Don't be mad."

"Not funny!" Ashley scolded, checking his bandages. "Does it hurt?"

Ethan, trying to play it cool, grinned, "Yeah, it hurts. I need some kisses and hugs to feel better."

Ashley rolled her eyes and gave him a playful punch, "You're such a dork. Let's go home, I'll cook you something nice."

Ethan's eyes got serious. "Wait."

He took her hand and led her to the operating room.

"Let's wait for her to come out," Ethan said.

Ashley asked, "Who's in there?"

Ethan's eyes darkened, "The person who saved me."

"When that truck came outta nowhere, she pushed me out of the way. She got trapped under it. When they pulled her out, she was covered in blood."

Ashley gasped, "That's insane."

"You know her," Ethan said coldly. "It's Doris Jones."

Just saying her name made Ethan's blood boil.

Doris had messed up his family life, casting a shadow over his childhood. He never thought she'd save him.

Ashley whispered, "What a twist."

Ethan's eyes narrowed, "Yeah, crazy, right? We were talking business at noon, and by afternoon, she's my hero."

"Babe, do you think..." Ethan stared at the operating room door, deep in thought, "Could this be some kind of setup?"

Ashley looked at him. "Whether it's real or a scheme, I bet you've already got someone on it."

Ethan smiled, ruffling her hair. "You know me too well. Diannel's on it."

Just then, Diannel walked over with a stack of papers.

"Mr. Yates, we've got the info," Diannel said, handing over the documents.

"The truck driver was drunk. He's from Z City and has only been to Aurora twice, both times just passing through. No ties to Ms Jones... And Ms. Jones, after leaving the Yates Group, went to a café to meet another company about financing."

Ethan scanned the papers silently.

Ashley turned to Diannel, "Can I see the accident footage?"

"Sure thing, Mrs. Yates," Diannel replied.
