Chapter 514 Discovering a Misunderstanding Between Them
Atticus's words gave Liam pause. Composing himself, he said, "Atticus, I apologize for my outburst. Our family has been searching for her for years, hoping to reunite with her. Please, I'm begging you—help me bring Ashley back to us."
His voice cracked with emotion, his expression filled with sorrow.
Atticus softened. "I spoke harshly just now. Please, don't get upset. Come inside and sit down—I'll explain everything."
Liam nodded, and they moved to the living room to talk.
"Is she really your sister?" Atticus asked, pulling out a photograph of Ashley and handing it to Liam.
Upon seeing it, Liam became emotional. "Yes, that's her! I knew she wasn't dead. But why hasn't she contacted us all these years?"
"I rescued her from the sea, and when she regained consciousness, she had no memory of her past. The only clue to her identity was a necklace with a photo inside that had the name 'Ashley' on it. That's how we knew her name, but nothing else about her."
"That explains why she never came home... How has she been all these years?"
"Well..." Atticus proceeded to tell him about Ashley's journey to Aurora and her life in Gold Valley District over the years.
After listening, Liam frowned. "Ashley never had a sister. That woman who looked like her..."
He paused, his face darkening with hatred. "It must have been Annie—that horrible woman! If not for her interference, we would have reunited long ago. When I return to Aivalia, I'll track her down and make her pay!"
Atticus felt a pang of sadness. He had feelings for Ashley but knew his love was unrequited. After careful consideration, he decided to withhold nothing and told Liam everything he knew.
After talking at length, Liam asked, "Atticus, where is my sister now?"
With a somber look, Atticus replied, "At the palace."
"The palace?"
"The Ethan you mentioned is now His Highness Prince Totti of Gold Valley District. Recently, she and the children were taken to the palace. Perhaps it was fate—even though they both lost their memories, they still found each other."
Liam was stunned. "That's incredible!"
After a moment, he continued, "By the way, I haven't seen photos of the children. May I?"
"Of course."
Atticus showed him pictures of Andy and Nate.
Liam's eyes widened in shock. "My God, it's them!"
"You know them?"
"By coincidence, today I rescued them from kidnappers. I noticed they looked like Ethan and suspected they might be related. I had no idea I was actually saving my own nephews!"
"What? Andy and Nate were kidnapped?"
"Don't worry, they're safe now."
Atticus sighed with relief.
Liam frowned thoughtfully. "Strange... why would Ethan deny they were his children?"
Confused by the situation, Liam couldn't make sense of it.
"I'm not sure about the details. You should ask them directly."
Liam nodded. "I will. There must be some misunderstanding that needs clearing up. Atticus, could you give me Ashley's contact information?"
"Sure."
After Atticus provided Ashley's number, they chatted a while longer before Liam decided to stay the night.
Atticus offered, "It's late. You can stay here tonight—in the room next to Pearl's."
"Pearl?" Liam questioned.
"Yes, Ashley goes by Pearl now."
Liam nodded. "Thank you for your hospitality."
Liam was shown to the room next to Ashley's. Before sleeping, he went to look at her room.
On the desk sat a framed photograph of Ashley and the children laughing together on a lawn.
Stroking the photo, Liam became emotional, tears streaming down his face. "Ashley, I've finally found you!"
He picked up his phone and immediately dialed the number Atticus had given him.
Meanwhile, at Azure Palace, Ashley was in the bathroom. Ethan had gone to his office for an urgent matter. Andy was playing on a tablet while Nate was reading a cookbook. Suddenly, Ashley's phone rang.
"Mommy's phone is ringing," Nate said.
Nate answered, "Hello?"
On the other end, Liam exclaimed emotionally, "Hello? Ashley, it's your brother Liam! I've finally found you."
Nate scoffed, "Yeah right, another scammer. I'm not falling for that."
He hung up, leaving Liam shocked on the other end. Liam immediately called back.
Andy asked, "Nate, who was that?"
"Just some scammer, Andy."
"Then turn off the phone so it doesn't interfere with our plan."
Nate nodded and powered off Ashley's phone.
Just then, Ethan returned and overheard the children talking. "Andy, Nate, what plan are you two whispering about?"
