Chapter 133 Ashley Fainted
Felicity was about to spill the beans when the door suddenly swung open.
Ivy walked in with a fruit platter, giving Felicity a warning look but smiling at Ethan. "Ethan, you must be thirsty from all that talking. I made this fruit platter just for you. Please, enjoy."
Ethan frowned, annoyed. "Mom, can't you knock first?"
Ivy laughed it off. "Oops, I forgot. I'll leave you two to it."
As she turned to go, she shot Felicity a low-key warning. "Don't say anything stupid!"
Felicity's eyes showed a flash of fear. The Zito family was basically a puppet for the Xavier family. Ivy owned 30% of Zito Group's shares, and her relatives had a big chunk too, making up two-thirds of the shares.
Felicity's dad was just a figurehead chairman. He wanted to get the shares back, so he pushed Felicity to cozy up to the Xavier and Yates families. If she failed, she'd get beaten when she got home.
She could handle the beatings, but she couldn't let her mom and brother suffer. So, even if she hated it, she followed her dad's orders.
Thinking of this, Felicity swallowed the truth she was about to reveal.
After Ivy left, she stayed close, eavesdropping by the door.
Ethan asked, "What were you about to tell me?"
Felicity lied, "Mr. Yates, about last night, I really don't know what happened. I know you're married, but I can't help liking you. Mr. Yates, can you divorce and marry me?"
She glanced at the door, noticing a shadow. Her eyes flickered again.
Ethan's veins bulged, and his face turned livid. He stood up, glaring at Felicity. "You want me to divorce and marry you? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!"
Felicity wasn't hurt by his sarcasm. She put on a very hurt expression. "I gave you my first time. You must marry me."
Her eyes flashed, shifting the blame.
"If my dad finds out, he won't let Ashley off!"
"And Aunt Ivy, she'll definitely help me. If you don't marry me, I'll go to her for help!"
Ethan's voice was icy. "Get out!"
Felicity was genuinely scared by Ethan's menacing vibe, feeling like he might strangle her any second.
She turned and ran, a cold smile creeping onto her face. She couldn't take on her dad and the Xavier family, so she dumped the problem on Ethan. Let him deal with it.
After she left, Ethan slumped in his chair, rubbing his temples in frustration. Ivy's setup today had him fuming and disappointed.
"Damn it!"
His anger was so intense it made his chest hurt. Just then, his phone rang.
It was Ryan. Ethan answered, "Hello."
Ryan said, "Ethan, get to the hospital quick. Ashley just fainted."
Hearing that, Ethan shot up, anxiety flooding him. "Which hospital? I'm on my way."
Ryan replied, "Haven Hospital, emergency room."
Ethan hung up and sped to the hospital, desperate to be by Ashley's side.
Half an hour later, he arrived at Ashley's room. The people there stepped aside when they saw him.
Ethan looked at the unconscious Ashley, her face pale, limbs in casts. She looked so fragile, and his heart ached.
He gently touched her face and asked, "What happened? Why did she faint?"
Everyone exchanged uneasy glances.
Ethan's eyes landed on Ryan.
Ryan explained, "Ashley couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about last night, so she had someone investigate. Mr. White and Ms. Zook went to the hospital for a check-up, and the report they got was..."
Ryan hesitated, but Ethan got the gist.
"Ashley thought you might've been with Felicity last night. She was so heartbroken and overwhelmed that she fainted..."
"The doctor said she's physically fine, but she hasn't woken up yet. We were too worried, so we called you."
Ethan felt a mix of emotions.
"Okay, I get it."
He said, "I'll take care of her."
Everyone left, leaving Ethan alone with Ashley.
He caressed her pale face, his heart heavy. "Ashley, I swear I didn't touch her. Why don't you believe me..."
"You say you love me, but how deep is that love if you can't trust me?"
He murmured, not noticing Ashley's pained frown and trembling eyelashes.
