Chapter 107 Too Late

Paul was trying to figure out a reason to contact Elizabeth.

When Lloyd spoke, Paul grinned. "Sure, no problem. Just not sure how good she is at fortune-telling."

He added, "If her reading's off, don't blame her."

Elizabeth was adopted by a master fortune-teller and had been learning since she was a kid. She even studied it in college.

But Paul thought a young fortune-teller might not be that great.

When Elizabeth first joined the family, she had got along well with his sons.

He heard Loren had had Elizabeth do a reading at Clark Entertainment.

Enrique also had had her do a reading before he started filming.

Paul never asked about the results.

Lloyd laughed. "You're being modest. Elizabeth was on a reality show and predicted a villager's son would be in danger. She saved the boy by going into the water early. She also fixed a problem with another kid's bracelet, and the kid got better. She's definitely skilled."

He asked, "Haven't you had her do a reading for you?"

Paul had been too busy to watch that show.

So he hadn't known about it.

He smiled. "She did readings for my sons. But not for us, so I'm not too familiar."

Lloyd believed in fortune-telling, especially after hearing a friend praise Elizabeth for saving someone.

That's when he started paying attention to her.

He said, "There are three situations she won't read, so she can't help you with destiny."

Paul also believed in fortune-telling but didn't know this. "Three situations she won't read?"

Lloyd explained, "She won't read for blood relatives, political matters, or herself. Fortune-tellers can't read for blood relatives or their own fate; there's a rule about it. Otherwise, it would be too powerful. Constantly helping themselves and their family avoid bad things and seize good luck would cause chaos."

Paul finally said, "Got it. I'll ask her when she's free."

Paul attempted to reach Elizabeth multiple times through his phone, only to encounter perpetual unavailability—either engaged or switched off. A faint inkling crept into Paul's mind, though he dismissed it as improbable.

Seeking an alternate means of contact, Paul located Elizabeth on a chat application and dispatched a message. But a notification flashed across his screen, indicating they were no longer connected as friends.

Paul's initial suspicion solidified into certainty, a realization both startling and incredulous. Elizabeth had taken the drastic step of blocking his number and removing him from her chat app contacts.

A shadow crossed Paul's visage, his countenance falling into a somber and troubled state.

Lloyd noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"

Paul stayed calm and smiled. "Her phone's off; she might be busy. I'll contact her and schedule a time for the reading with you."

Lloyd didn't think much of it and said, "Alright."

After Lloyd left, Paul called an assistant and borrowed his phone.

Then he called Elizabeth.

Elizabeth saw the unfamiliar number and didn't know who it was.

She answered, "Hello!"

Paul said, "Elizabeth, it's me."

Elizabeth recognized Paul's voice and was a bit surprised.

Why was he calling her? It couldn't be about Richard, right?

Paul didn't seem like the type to scold her on Richard's behalf.

When she was with the Clark family, Paul was always busy and didn't care much about family matters.

He wasn't as biased as the others towards Brenda, but he didn't care much about Elizabeth either. After she was brought back, he gave her a bank card and left her alone.

So their relationship was distant.

The day she left, Paul had believed Betty and his sons, thinking she was always causing trouble. He was very unhappy.

He wanted a harmonious family, and she was disrupting the peace. So he let his sons teach her a lesson.

He never checked if what they said was true.

Maybe it was a matter of closeness.

For a daughter who had only been back for a little over a year, she naturally wasn't as close as his wife, sons, and Brenda.

When she left the Clark family, she considered them all strangers.

She wouldn't seek fatherly love or anything like that.

So she said, "Who is this?"

Paul frowned. "I'm your dad."

Elizabeth replied, "I don't have a dad. I've already cut ties with everyone in the Clark family."

Paul hadn't expected that.

She really wanted to cut ties.

And from her tone, he could tell she was serious.

He sighed. "Elizabeth, do you still hold a grudge after all this time?"

Elizabeth said indifferently, "We have no relationship anymore, so there's no grudge. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up."

Paul quickly said, "I do have something to discuss. An old friend wants your help with a reading. When are you available? Let's schedule a time."

He didn't bring up family matters again, fearing she'd hang up.

He wanted to use this as a chance to ease their relationship.

But Elizabeth refused. "No, I don't want any connection with the Clark family or anyone close to them. Tell your friend to find another fortune-teller."

Elizabeth thought, 'The Clark family wanting to use me? No way.'

She said she cut ties, and she meant it.

Paul thought a phone call would make her listen? What a joke.

Paul was stunned, surprised she'd refuse so bluntly.

"Elizabeth, why are you so stubborn? There's no hatred in a family; there must have been some misunderstanding. How about we schedule a family gathering and talk? If your brothers have issues, I'll discipline them."

Elizabeth was harsh to Richard, and he had looked into it.

It was Richard who had made the first move against Elizabeth.

In this regard, he didn't side with Richard.

No matter what, Elizabeth was his biological daughter.

He had never intended to let her continue to wander outside.

He just hadn't expected her to have such a big temper.

Elizabeth sneered, "Now that we have no relationship, you say you'll discipline them if they have issues. Mr. Clark, it's too late! I don't want any connection with you anymore, so there's no need for a family meal or talk. Don't contact me again. I'm hanging up!"

And with that, she hung up.
