Chapter 268 I Can't Take It Anymore

Enrique swiped Arnold's Spellscroll, and Arnold was hot on his heels but couldn't catch him.

Left with no other option, he hit up Richard for advice.

Richard thought, 'Why should I be the only one having a crappy day?' So he told Arnold to see if his luck was just as bad, and if it was, to hit up Elizabeth.

Arnold was stuck on some reality show overseas, and things with Elizabeth were already on thin ice. He didn't have the guts to face her, so he just waited it out.

Then, bam, bad luck hit. He went to the supermarket and got nailed by an e-bike, messing up his foot.

Two days in the hospital, hoping his bad luck would chill out, but nope. The IV went haywire, the needle popped out, and his hand swelled up like a balloon. Then, he slipped on some oil while grabbing lunch, making his busted foot even worse. Freaked out, he stopped going out and had a buddy bring him food. Even that went south when he found a roach in his meal halfway through eating.

The restaurant was usually spotless, so this was a total shocker. Arnold knew this was Enrique's bad luck screwing with him. After getting out of the hospital, he went back to his apartment, only for the elevator to go on the fritz and start dropping. He got out with just a few scrapes but was scared out of his mind and stuck in there for over an hour before getting rescued.

Back in his place, Arnold bent down to change his shoes and threw out his back. He limped to the couch, only to sit on a hidden fruit knife Enrique had left behind. The sharp pain in his butt made him want to throttle Enrique.

Fed up, Arnold called the Clark family's doc to patch him up, then video-called Richard. "Richard, I can't take it anymore. I'm about to lose it," he said, looking pale and worn out from sleepless nights. He spilled the beans about the past two days.

Richard didn't seem totally heartless but couldn't hide a smirk. He said, "Tough luck, huh? I warned you guys, but you still let Enrique snag the Spellscroll. You had it coming."

Arnold, looking miserable, said, "How was I supposed to know Enrique was that bad? Richard, please ask Elizabeth if she can whip up another Spellscroll. I can't handle this anymore."

After dealing with this bad luck firsthand, he was even more sold on the Generational Blessings. He was also glad he hadn't given his Generational Blessings to Brenda earlier. Otherwise, he'd be this miserable all the time.

This time, Richard didn't refuse. After hanging up, he went to find Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had already figured Richard would set up Arnold and Kevin. She was all for it, thinking these two needed to see Brenda's power for themselves. So she agreed to sell Arnold a gemstone amulet.

When Arnold found out, he almost cried with relief. He didn't care about the million-dollar price tag; he just wanted to end this streak of bad luck. He and Richard went to Elizabeth's place, where Arnold bought the amulet and hung it around his neck.

Feeling a mix of gratitude and shame, Arnold said, "I totally misjudged you before; I'm sorry."

Elizabeth stayed icy. "I don't need your apology." When Arnold tried to say more, she cut him off, "You can leave now."

Arnold felt stung by her coldness. He swallowed the rest of his words.

Arnold left with Richard. On the way, Richard said, "Kevin's probably next on Enrique's hit list."

Arnold nodded. "Yeah, Enrique's getting bolder; Kevin's not gonna dodge this one."

Neither of them warned Kevin, thinking as brothers, they should all go through this mess together.

A few days later, Enrique's luck tanked again as the stolen Spellscroll turned to ash, and he set his sights on a new target—Kevin.

One day, Enrique invited Kevin out for a meal, pretending to chat about their upcoming reality show. Kevin, clueless about Enrique's past thefts, agreed. After their meal, Enrique pulled his usual trick: spilled juice on Kevin, handed him a clean shirt, and while Kevin was changing, swiped the Spellscroll from around his neck.

By the time Kevin realized what had happened, Enrique was already gone with a parting shot. "Kevin, I'll borrow your Spellscroll for a few days."

Kevin was floored; he had been played. Enrique really was a jerk!

After getting dressed, he rushed out, but Enrique was long gone.

Kevin had no choice but to head back. He also told Richard and Arnold about it in their group chat.

Richard and Arnold were secretly amused but outwardly comforted Kevin, telling him to wait and see for a few days.

In the following days, Kevin also hit a streak of bad luck. He didn't end up in the hospital like Richard and Arnold, but it was still rough.

For instance, a hater splashed him with paint, his car tire blew out, and he skidded into a guardrail.

He choked on food, drank water the wrong way, got cursed out while gaming, and lost a commercial deal he had locked down.

There were tons of other unlucky moments that could drive anyone nuts.

A few days later, Kevin couldn't take it anymore and called Richard for help.

Richard took him to Elizabeth, and he also dropped a million bucks on a gemstone amulet.

A few days later, Enrique's bad luck kicked in again.

But he had already swiped all three brothers' Spellscrolls and had no other options.

After two more days of bad luck, he got into a car accident.

Brenda came to him, saying she had a divination artifact to ward off bad luck for him.

There was no other choice; if Enrique got hurt and couldn't do the reality show, what would they do? She had to help him in advance.

She originally planned to give Enrique a bracelet she wore.

But when Ethan found out, he sent a pendant, saying it could also ward off bad luck.

Its effect was even better than her bracelet. So she kept the pendant and gave the bracelet to Enrique.

She also said she was giving him her precious protective item for his sake.

Enrique had a lot of resentment about the bad luck.

But after Brenda gave him the item and comforted him, his resentment not only vanished, but he was also a bit touched.
