Chapter 337 Too Stupid

Not just Paul, even Enrique was staring at Betty like she'd lost her mind. Did she seriously want Paul to bail out a murderer? Even if Paul had connections, no one would touch this mess.

Paul looked at Betty, feeling let down. "You believe everything Mrs. Baker says? Elizabeth is our daughter, and you're doubting her because of Mrs. Baker?"

Betty got heated. "I know she's my daughter, but she needs to respect us too! You saw the livestream, right? She has zero respect for me. I asked her to help save Enrique, and she humiliated me."

She added, "She just can't stand me as her mom and is looking for any chance to get back at me."

Paul saw how bitter Betty was towards Elizabeth and decided to switch gears. "Do you even know what Mrs. Baker's nephew did? And you want me to bail him out?"

Betty replied, "She told me Elizabeth framed her nephew, and that's why Caleb got arrested. She didn't say what he did exactly."

She shrugged. "If Caleb was framed, what could he have done? Just go."

Paul was speechless. How could Betty be so gullible? Fooled by someone like Amy.

He took a deep breath and said, "He's done a lot, and it wasn't Elizabeth who framed him. There were so many eyes on the livestream; even if Elizabeth wanted to frame him, she couldn't have! Caleb drugged and imprisoned girls, trafficked people abroad, and was involved in a murder. Everything was on the livestream, and we saw it too."

His face darkened. "And you want me to bail out someone like that? Do you think the Clark Family doesn't have its own set of issues? I can't get involved in this, and I won't. Caleb brought this on himself and should be punished by the law."

Betty was stunned. "How is that possible? Amy said it wasn't a big deal and that Caleb was wrongfully accused!"

Paul's face grew darker. "You believe everything she says? Are you that naive?"

Betty's face changed. "She's my friend; I didn't think there would be such things involved. Maybe it's a misunderstanding." She then asked, "So what now? You can't help?"

Paul said irritably, "Of course, I can't help. Orlando has connections just as good as mine. She didn't go to Orlando but came to you. Isn't this just to clear her own name and put us in the spotlight? Cut ties with folks like Mrs. Baker. You might not even see it coming when she stabs you in the back." He was now even more disgusted with Amy.

Betty still didn't want to believe she was duped by Amy. "She said Orlando was on a plane and couldn't be reached, and she knew we were in Aevum City, so she asked for help. Did Caleb really do those things? Could it be a misunderstanding? Paul, I've already agreed to help. Can you ask around? If you can offer assistance, please do so. If it's truly beyond your ability, then let it be. That way, I can at least give Mrs. Baker an explanation."

She had already agreed, and it would be embarrassing to go back on her word.

Paul was furious. "Figure it out yourself. In any case, you have the support of your maternal family connections. I don't have the ability to save a murderer." After saying that, he ignored Betty.

Enrique looked at Betty and said, "Mom, seriously, stop with the drama. Elizabeth isn't out to get you."

He smirked, adding, "This isn't some TV show. Mrs. Baker had Caleb mess with Elizabeth, and that's how he got caught. Your judgment of people sucks; Mrs. Baker is bad news."

Caleb, that jerk, tried to hurt Elizabeth, and now he was getting what he deserved. Betty was being so naive.

Betty was already pissed after Paul scolded her, and now Enrique was piling on, making her even more furious. "Fine, you nailed it," she snapped, then turned to Enrique and sneered, "So, why are you in this mess?"

Enrique shrugged. "I never said I had good judgment! I was dumb and ignored everyone's advice, which is why I'm in this mess. Mom, wake up." He added kindly, "If you don't want to end up like me, stop causing trouble."

But his words only made Betty angrier. She glared at him, shouting, "You ungrateful brat, I was worried and trying to help you, and now you're cursing me. I'm not as stupid as you. If you and your father are mad at me because of Elizabeth, just say it instead of humiliating me."

Paul and Enrique were silent; there was no getting through to her. "If that's what you think, there's nothing we can do," Paul said helplessly. "We're trying to help you. If you don't listen, don't regret it later."

But Betty wouldn't listen. She thought Paul and Enrique were siding with Elizabeth against her. "If you won't help, fine. I'll do it myself."

Betty stopped asking Paul for help and pulled out her phone to call her older brother, Leon Anderson.

When the call connected, she explained the situation. Leon was silent for a few seconds, then asked, "Are you in a hospital?"

Betty was puzzled. "Yeah, why?"

Her brother said, "Have Paul take you to see a psychiatrist." Only someone with mental issues would do something like this. He really thought Betty had lost it.

Betty was silent for a moment before saying, "Leon, you're the one who needs a psychiatrist. I'm perfectly fine." She felt so wronged that her eyes teared up. "If you won't help, fine, but why talk to me like this?"

Leon was speechless. "A sane person wouldn't do this. If you're fine, why are you asking me to save a murderer? When I saw the headlines, I thought Mrs. Baker's nephew was scum and hoped he'd rot in jail. Letting someone like Caleb out is a death sentence for others, and everyone would cheer. How could I possibly save him? You want to drag me down?"

Betty was stunned. "Did he really do those things? But Mrs. Baker said Elizabeth framed him!"

Leon was speechless. "Geez, you don't believe Elizabeth but trust someone with a bad rep like Mrs. Baker. I really think you need a psychiatrist." He couldn't understand Betty's thinking.

Previously, Betty had driven Elizabeth away for Brenda, and he thought she was too stupid. Now, because of Amy's words, she doubted Elizabeth even more. She even wanted to harm her own family. She was beyond stupid.

"I can't help, and no one else in the family will either. Stop causing trouble. That's it." After saying that, Leon hung up.

Hearing the busy tone, Betty was completely stunned.
