Chapter 202 Counting on You
Brenda suddenly felt a wave of regret. She shouldn't have called Amy. She couldn't help but blame Amy; Amy was so stupid and useless. It had weakened her Generational Blessings.
Feeling a lack of desire to continue the conversation with Amy, she hung up the phone with a few brief and obligatory words.
She didn't dare call Betty either.
She knew Betty well; if Amy had called her, Betty would have been very unhappy and would have held it against her.
However, she really didn't want to lie alone in the hospital. Brenda had been pampered and cared for all her life, and being alone now was unbearable. Arnold and Kevin treated her that way, but her other brothers surely wouldn't.
She called Loren, but his phone was off. She guessed Loren was probably in a meeting. As for Richard, she skipped him entirely. Richard was a jerk now, too.
Then she called Enrique. This time, he answered.
Brenda immediately started crying to Enrique, telling him about her fall. She kept emphasizing that she didn't harm Elizabeth.
But Arnold and Kevin didn't believe her. Not only did they blame her, but they also didn't come to check on her. This isolation and abandonment felt particularly pitiful, leaving her feeling vulnerable and alone in her circumstances.
After Enrique comforted her for a while, Brenda sent him a photo of herself looking pale, with bandages on her head and casts on her arms and legs, to gain more sympathy.
Among the five Clark brothers, Enrique had always been the one who doted on her the most. He used to fulfill her every desire and catered to her needs. However, when Elizabeth returned home, Enrique's behavior abruptly changed as he fiercely targeted her, all in the name of Brenda's benefit.
Initially, when Elizabeth was brought into the family, the other brothers treated her kindly, and she reciprocated their kindness, trying even harder to win their affection.
However, Brenda, fearing Elizabeth would steal her brothers' love, subtly instigated and hinted that Elizabeth was bullying her, causing unnecessary trouble.
That was when they gradually started targeting Elizabeth, thinking she was causing trouble and telling her not to bully Brenda.
Ever since Elizabeth returned home, Enrique displayed an unusually cold and distant demeanor towards her. As a result, their relationship became much more distant compared to the relationships she had with the other four brothers.
Enrique had always protected Brenda. Like that day when Brenda's face hurt, it was Enrique who snatched the bracelet from Richard and gave it to her.
So now, Enrique definitely wouldn't blame Brenda like the others. Sure enough, Brenda's crying and the pitiful photo made Enrique feel incredibly sorry for her.
He comforted her on the phone for a long time.
Brenda then asked, "Enrique, I'm so lonely and scared in the hospital. Can you come and keep me company?"
Enrique sighed, "Brenda, Dad has taken me abroad. I'll call Arnold and Kevin and ask them to take care of you. If they still refuse, I'll find a way to come to you."
Brenda hesitated. "If you do that, won't Dad be upset?"
And then he might blame her.
Enrique reassured, "Don't worry. I won't tell him. He won't know I'm coming to see you."
Brenda really wanted someone to take care of her, so she agreed, "Enrique, you're the best."
They chatted for a while longer before hanging up.
Enrique hadn't watched the live broadcast, but he already believed that Elizabeth had injured Brenda.
Arnold and Kevin were so cold and heartless.
He contacted the show and got Arnold and Kevin's phone numbers. He called Arnold first; they were closer.
Arnold recognized Enrique's number. Seeing the call, he guessed it was about Brenda, so he didn't answer. He took his phone and knocked on the door of the next room.
Kevin, wearing a bathrobe and with wet hair, opened the door, "What's up?"
Arnold squeezed into the room and asked, "Did Enrique contact you?"
Kevin shook his head. "No."
Just as he finished speaking, his phone on the bed rang.
They exchanged a look, and Arnold said, "Answer it, or he won't give up."
Kevin rolled his eyes. "Why don't you answer it?"
Arnold shrugged. "Because you're the younger brother."
Kevin fell silent. He knew Enrique's personality; if he didn't answer, there would be no peace today. So he answered and put it on speaker. "Enrique, what made you think of calling me?"
Enrique snapped, "Why aren't you guys at the hospital with Brenda?"
Kevin knew this was coming and sighed. "Do you know what happened between Brenda, Arnold, and Elizabeth?"
Enrique said, "Of course I do. You guys are too much."
Hearing this, Kevin realized reasoning with Enrique was futile. "Yes, we're too much. Arnold is upset, and I have a stomachache. We can't go to the hospital."
Kevin said meaningfully, "Enrique, you're usually the one who spoils Brenda the most. Since you're free now, why don't you fly over and keep her company?"
Arnold silently agreed. The way Enrique spoke and accused them had irritated him deeply. Brenda had tricked them all—why should Enrique escape unscathed? Let him experience the frustration.
Kevin's words stumped Enrique. He said anxiously, "Dad has taken me abroad; I can't leave! How can Brenda be alone in the hospital? Can't you guys be a little less heartless?"
Kevin sighed theatrically, "We really can't leave. Dad can't watch you all the time. I believe with Enrique's cleverness, you can find a way. We are counting on you!"
Enrique was silent, feeling something was off.
He complained, "I can't rely on you guys. I have to do everything myself, unbelievable."
Kevin immediately agreed, "Yes, Enrique is the reliable one. We have to continue filming the live show tomorrow, so we can't be with her. Brenda is counting on you. Hurry up and come!"
"Fine, I'll come myself," Enrique grumbled, hanging up.
Seeing that Paul was still in a meeting, Enrique quickly made an excuse to the secretary and left the office. He booked a flight to Veridiania, packed his bags, and headed straight to the airport, determined to comfort Brenda in person.
