Chapter 67 How Could You Do This to Elizabeth?
Both were confused.
Ashley couldn't resist calling Eugene.
Eugene and his friends were having dinner at a roadside restaurant, chatting absentmindedly and not checking their phones.
Eugene's phone rang, and he answered, "What's up?"
Ashley, furious, snapped, "I should be asking you that."
She blurted out, "You don't trust me at all? Hiding everything from me is too much."
She was deeply upset by the online news confirming Eugene and Brenda's relationship.
What hurt most was Eugene hiding it from her.
Eugene respected Ashley but didn't appreciate her tone. "Explain what I hid from you. Calm down, or I'll hang up."
His cold tone was like a bucket of cold water on Ashley. She realized she was blinded by jealousy and anger.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "Sorry, I overreacted because of the stuff online. Did you see the latest headlines? You're on the front page again."
Eugene replied, "I'm having dinner, haven't checked. What happened?"
Ashley, holding back her emotions, said, "Photos of you and Brenda meeting privately are online, and they look very intimate."
Eugene frowned. "How could there be such photos?"
Ashley wanted to roll her eyes. "Someone took screenshots from surveillance footage of your private meetings."
Eugene frowned more. "Watch your words, we didn't have any private meetings."
Ashley didn't want to argue. "Besides that, photos of you and Brenda wearing couple pendants were found. You both wore them to events, several times."
Eugene was baffled. "What couple pendants? I don't have any! The photos were edited"
Ashley laughed in anger. "We had the tech department verify; the photos weren't edited. Are you still not going to tell me the truth? How are we supposed to handle the PR like this?"
Eugene was even more baffled. "I don't have anything to confess. I'll check the headlines and call you back."
After hanging up, he checked and saw the "intimate photos" of him and Brenda.
Seeing them, Eugene felt a surge of anger.
The photos were taken from angles that made them look intimate.
The one of Brenda leaning on him was when she slipped and fell on him. He had helped her up and immediately distanced himself.
The one where they were looking down was when they were checking something on a phone together. He had moved away as soon as he realized his head had been close to Brenda's.
The one where it looked like she was whispering in his ear was even more ridiculous. Brenda leaned in to talk, and he suddenly sat up straight, her lips accidentally touching his ear.
The angles were so tricky that even if he explained, not many would believe him.
He wondered who was behind this, clearly orchestrating it.
Eugene didn't suspect Elizabeth. He didn't think she could get the surveillance footage or hire someone to follow them. Plus, he didn't want to believe Elizabeth would be so ruthless.
He then checked another photo.
When Eugene saw the pendant in the photo, his face showed shock. His heart sank.
That pendant was a gift, supposedly blessed for good luck, so he wore it often. Sometimes it showed during events and got photographed. For this trip, he left it in a safe to avoid breaking it.
He didn't give Brenda her pendant and didn't even know she had one. According to netizens, there were only two of these limited-edition pendants in the world, and they weren't sold separately.
Realizing this, Eugene understood everything. Brenda's pendant must have come from the same person. He was furious and almost smashed his phone. How could he explain this?
He wondered if this was all planned by that person, even the intimate photos.
Seeing Eugene's dark and angry expression, Kevin and Brenda exchanged glances. What was going on? It was the first time they saw the usually calm Eugene so upset.
Thinking it was because of what he saw on his phone, they checked the headlines. They were stunned.
Kevin couldn't believe Brenda and Eugene's relationship had reached such a level. He blurted out, "What is your relationship?"
Eugene was Elizabeth's boyfriend, known to their whole family. Despite loving Brenda, Kevin couldn't accept her being involved with Eugene behind Elizabeth's back.
Brenda hadn't expected so many photos of her and Eugene meeting privately to be found. The intimate photos were screenshots and candid shots. She had indeed pretended to create those moments to seduce Eugene but couldn't admit it.
The couple pendants were a birthday gift to her. If she had known Eugene had one too, she wouldn't have worn it to events just because she liked it.
Eugene immediately denied Kevin's question. "We're just friends."
Brenda quickly added, "Yes, our relationship isn't like what's being said online."
She was furious. People were cursing her because of these photos, and she was clearly innocent. Her feelings for Eugene couldn't be revealed now, and she couldn't admit it online either. Otherwise, she'd be seen as a homewrecker.
Kevin, now angry, said, "If you have no relationship, then what's with those photos and couple pendants? Can you say you haven't met privately?"
The photos were verified, so they couldn't deny it. This left Eugene and Brenda speechless; they had indeed met privately several times.
Eugene explained, "We met, but it's not like the rumors online. The photos were taken from tricky angles."
Kevin glared at him. "Do you think I'm an idiot? To take photos from tricky angles, you still have to be that close! Eugene, you're with Elizabeth, and you're doing this behind her back. How could you do this to her?"
He said furiously, "No wonder she wants to break up with you. You're too much."
Eugene's betrayal and hurt to Elizabeth made him look like a terrible person.
