Chapter 117 Now It Felt Like a Disaster
Richard and Brenda went to a private hospital.
There were doctors on duty at night, and all kinds of tests could be done.
Richard kept complaining about chest and stomach pain.
But when the doctor lifted his shirt, there were no injuries.
The doctor pressed the areas Richard said hurt, but found nothing wrong.
Richard cried out in pain when pressed.
The doctor wrote a slip for some tests.
For Brenda, the doctor said, "No signs of being hit, not even a minor injury."
Brenda, with red eyes, said, "But it hurts so much, it feels like it's burning!"
The doctor wrote a slip for her too.
When the test results came back, the doctor said, "Neither of you have any signs of injury, so there's no need for treatment."
'No injuries, yet they keep complaining. Do these siblings have delusions?' the doctor thought.
Richard didn't believe it. "How could there be no signs of injury? I was kicked hard. It hurts to even breathe."
He was about to lose it.
The doctor said patiently, "You really aren't sick, so there's nothing I can do."
Richard and Brenda insisted they were in pain.
They demanded painkillers.
The doctor gave them some anti-inflammatory and pain-relief ointment.
He suggested, "If you still feel pain, you might want to see a psychiatrist tomorrow. This might be imagined pain."
Richard and Brenda fell silent. Were they being called crazy? They weren't imagining the pain.
But the test results were normal.
They had no choice but to go home.
Brenda's face hurt badly, so she had applied the ointment at the hospital.
It felt cool at first, but soon the pain returned and even got worse.
She had never felt such pain and humiliation.
Brenda couldn't hold back, hugged Richard, and cried, "Richard, I feel so awful."
Richard, suddenly hugged, felt his chest pain intensify. "Ouch!"
He really wanted to curse.
He said impatiently, "I feel awful too, let go of me."
In the past, when Brenda hugged him for comfort, he felt proud as a brother.
Now it felt like a disaster.
But Brenda wouldn't let go, hugging Richard's waist tightly.
"No, Richard, do you not care about me anymore?"
Being hugged so tightly, Richard's pain flared up again.
He lost all patience. "Don't you understand what I'm saying? I'm in pain too, can you be a bit more obedient?"
'Why was Brenda being so unreasonable?' he thought.
Brenda couldn't believe Richard was acting like this.
She looked at him with hurt. "Richard, you're actually being mean to me."
She let go of Richard. "I won't talk to you anymore."
Then she curled up by the window, sobbing, looking pitiful and helpless.
In the past, Richard would have comforted her.
But now he just felt annoyed, especially hearing her cry. He wanted to shut her up. 'Why did she like crying so much? Couldn't she be as strong as Elizabeth?'
After a while, Brenda cried even louder because Richard didn't comfort her.
Richard couldn't hold back and shouted, "Stop crying, you're so annoying, can you shut up?"
'Crying, crying, crying, that's all she does,' Richard thought impatiently.
If she weren't his sister, he would've kicked her out of the car.
Brenda was already in pain, and Richard's shouting made it worse.
She wanted to throw a tantrum but saw Richard's red, gloomy eyes and didn't dare.
She bit her lip and cried silently by the window.
Back at the Clark's, everyone was there except Paul.
Seeing her other brothers, Brenda found a sense of comfort.
She rushed into Arnold's arms, crying.
Arnold quickly hugged her. "Brenda, what's wrong?"
"Arnold, Richard and I were beaten by Elizabeth," Brenda said. "We just came back from the hospital. She slapped me several times, and my face is burning. She kicked Richard hard, and his chest and stomach hurt badly."
She started badmouthing Elizabeth right away.
Betty and the Clark brothers were surprised.
They found it hard to believe.
Elizabeth didn't seem like someone who would hit Richard!
Richard walked in, holding his chest and stomach, and heard Brenda complaining.
He felt embarrassed.
Being beaten by Elizabeth was nothing to be proud of.
Betty stood up and pulled Brenda out of Arnold's arms.
She said sternly, "If you have grievances, sit down and talk, don't hug and cling."
She didn't like how they always hugged and clung to each other.
Brenda, being pulled away, remembered Betty's previous warning about hugging.
She cursed Betty inwardly for being nosy.
But she obediently said, "Mom, I was just feeling too awful, I'll be more careful in the future."
Betty's face remained stern. "I hope you remember next time."
She looked at Richard and asked, "What happened exactly?"
Richard recounted the bar incident.
After hearing it, Betty didn't know what to say.
But seeing no marks on Brenda's face and knowing the hospital found nothing wrong with Richard, she didn't take it seriously. "Just don't provoke her in the future."
She told Richard, "She's your sister, let this matter end here."
Richard sneered, "What else can we do?"
They had no evidence to sue Elizabeth, let alone threaten her with exposure.
He was in too much pain to talk and went straight to his room.
Betty didn't want to deal with it either and went to her room.
The remaining brothers comforted Brenda but didn't dare hug her.
Brenda felt comforted by the four brothers, but none of them mentioned helping her get revenge.
They acted like she was just making a fuss, and they were humoring her.
This made Brenda feel even more aggrieved.
She was really in pain, but they didn't believe her.
Back in her room, Brenda's face hurt so much she cried, but looking in the mirror, only her eyes were swollen.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was wrong.
Elizabeth must have used some unnatural means against them, which was why the tests showed nothing but they were still in pain.
She wouldn't let Elizabeth get away with this.
Brenda thought for a moment, then edited a message and manually entered a number to send it to.
Soon, she received a reply saying: [Okay.]
