Chapter 220 Do you think you can escape?
Hubert always had this gut feeling that Angela had some shady reason for switching up her State ID. It wasn't just about dodging him.
Elizabeth chimed in, "She's trying to latch onto your Generational Blessings and swipe Rebecca's too. It's like a seesaw between Rebecca and Angela."
No wonder Elizabeth felt all weird the first time she laid eyes on Angela. Turns out, Angela's role was even bigger than Brenda's.
No wonder Rebecca couldn't stand Angela. Rebecca had been through the wringer for ages, especially at Amy's place, where she had it rough.
Even after moving next to Elizabeth, Rebecca kept running into bad luck. Later, on Wayne's advice, Gary got some divination tool to keep Rebecca's bad luck in check, and things started to chill out.
Elizabeth always had this feeling that in a past life, after she kicked the bucket, Rebecca would too. Now, it seemed like she was spot on.
Rebecca pointed at herself, all shocked, and blurted out, "Wait, so it's me and her who are tied together!"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep." She didn't want Rebecca to know too much at first, thinking it might put her in danger. But Rebecca was already knee-deep in the mess, just like her. They couldn't run, so they had to face it head-on. Better for Rebecca to be in the loop.
Rebecca found it kinda funny. "We really are besties, huh? Dealing with crappy guys together, getting our Generational Blessings jacked together. Facing the same enemies, who are actually sisters," she sighed.
Hearing her, Eugene and Hubert both got this uneasy vibe.
Hubert raised his hand and coughed. "Rebecca, quit talking nonsense. When did you run into a bad guy?" he muttered.
Rebecca looked at him and sneered, "Isn't it you?"
Hubert shot back, "No way, I'm definitely not a bad guy."
Rebecca snorted, "To me, you are."
She mocked, "You had it coming, keeping a ticking time bomb like Angela around. Thinking you could use her to deal with Melissa and Otis. But in reality, you were just a pawn, slowly being drained of Generational Blessings. One day, when they think it's time, they'll take all your Generational Blessings, and you'll be toast."
Hubert went quiet. Her words hit him hard. He'd really played himself. He only knew Angela had some diviner backing her, making it easy to mess with Rebecca.
He wanted to protect Rebecca. So, until he was sure he could take down Angela's backer, he didn't dare to be with Rebecca or treat her too well. He deliberately ignored her in front of Angela.
Looking back, Hubert realized he was a total idiot. He looked at Rebecca and nodded. "You're right, I had it coming," he mumbled.
Eugene, though, was focused on Elizabeth. Frowning, he cut in, "Wait, Rebecca, you said you and Elizabeth are the same. Does that mean Elizabeth is also bound and getting her Generational Blessings stolen?"
Rebecca glanced at Elizabeth and saw her cool-as-a-cucumber expression. She knew Elizabeth didn't mind them knowing. So she nodded. "Yep!"
Eugene's eyes narrowed, and he asked cautiously, "That person wouldn't be Brenda, would it?" Besides Brenda, he couldn't think of anyone else.
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. "Wow, look who suddenly got a brain," she mocked.
Eugene went quiet, his face looking pretty grim. "How could this happen?" he murmured. Had he almost helped Brenda swipe Elizabeth's Generational Blessings?
Unable to hold back, Eugene looked at Elizabeth with guilt. "I'm sorry!" he apologized.
Elizabeth glanced at him, her face indifferent. "I don't need it anymore," she replied coldly.
Eugene felt even worse but was at a loss for words.
Richard snapped out of his shock and asked, "So Brenda coming to my house was actually planned? Does that mean her birth time is the same as Elizabeth's?"
Brenda came to the Clark family on the recommendation of a divination master hired by the Clark Group. He said it would help the Clark family find their own biological daughter, Elizabeth. He also suggested that Brenda's birthday should be changed to match Elizabeth's.
Paul and Betty agreed and helped Brenda make the change. So, in Richard's mind, Brenda's birth time was different from Elizabeth's. She was just a stand-in for Elizabeth.
But according to Elizabeth and Rebecca, all of that was just to throw them off!
Elizabeth replied, "Yep, she and I were actually born at the same time. According to our info, after Mrs. Clark gave birth to me, Piper had a C-section. She was born just ten minutes after me but within the same hour. Using my old name and birthday was just another trick to steal Generational Blessings."
She looked at Richard and mocked, "So all these years, you were played by Brenda and the people behind her."
After discovering the secret of her and Brenda's birth times, Elizabeth knew she had to involve the Clark family to unravel the conspiracy. Although they had severed ties, their blood was the same.
If they didn't know about Brenda, they might do something dumb and accidentally help the people behind Brenda.
In order to foil the schemes of those manipulating Brenda and to prevent their children from further stealing and usurping their Generational Blessings, they had to interfere with the arrangements for the Clark family, the Baker family, and the Diaz family.
Richard's face changed. "Are you sure?" he asked in shock. He really hadn't expected Brenda's purpose in coming to their home.
Elizabeth shrugged, speaking indifferently, "I don't care if you believe me. If my Generational Blessings are stolen, you won't fare much better. Do you think you can escape?"
She used Natalie's words to comment, "You're like lambs being led to the slaughter. When the time comes, you'll be taken advantage of, and having your Generational Blessings stolen is your fate."
Richard fell silent. That description left him speechless. But if it was the truth, her description wasn't wrong, just harsh.
