Chapter 395 Stop Embarrassing Yourself
Phineas never thought Elizabeth would treat him so coldly, like he was a stranger. But honestly, he couldn't really blame her. They had messed up big time.
Betty had treated Elizabeth like dirt and cut her off completely. With Elizabeth's strong personality, it made sense she didn't see them as family anymore. Trying to ease the tension, he awkwardly changed the topic, "Alright, let's check out the evidence."
Elizabeth walked over, opened her laptop, and pulled up some surveillance footage. "This is part of the evidence. If you don't believe it's Mrs. Clark in the video, I can show you more," she said.
Phineas and the others crowded around to watch. Afterward, they thought the figure looked kinda familiar but couldn't be sure it was Betty.
Linda sneered, "Who are you trying to fool? That person's all covered up. How can anyone tell who it is? This doesn't prove it's Betty."
Soren frowned. "In the second video, Brenda calls this person 'Mom.' Isn't that enough proof? Brenda wouldn't be acting with us just to fool you." He was getting really annoyed with Linda's constant questioning. It felt like she was just trying to stir up trouble.
Linda raised an eyebrow. "Who says it's Betty? It could be Brenda's biological mother. You all are too naive."
Then she shot a glance at Elizabeth, implying, "You're too easily swayed and believe everything you're told."
Betty had called Linda before, complaining about how disrespectful and ungrateful Elizabeth was. Linda thought it was pretty normal. After all, Elizabeth didn't grow up in a rich family and lacked proper manners. Since being acknowledged, she had been causing a ruckus, either making a big deal about breaking from the family or constantly opposing her brothers and Betty.
The Clark family was embarrassed, and so was Linda. She disliked Elizabeth even more. Now, Elizabeth was causing trouble again, misleading Leon's family. Linda was happy to see them embarrassed. But Elizabeth dragging Betty into this to slander her was too much. She snorted disdainfully, "No manners."
Elizabeth could tell Linda was talking about her. Fed up with Linda's constant disruptions, Elizabeth didn't hold back. She shot back, "Linda Anderson, your comment about manners suits you better. You think you're the only smart one here, meddling and twisting facts to show off. But you're just making a fool of yourself, which is truly bad manners."
Linda was just a snob, thinking she was all that because she was a wealthy wife. But her husband, Thaddeus, was always in Leon's shadow. So, Linda liked to put others down to feel important. Ruth and the others might put up with it, but not Elizabeth. She'd stand up to Linda whenever needed.
Linda was caught off guard, not expecting Elizabeth to clap back so directly. She snapped, "Where are your manners? I'm your elder. How dare you talk to me like this!" When Betty had complained to her before, she thought Betty might have been exaggerating. Now, she saw Elizabeth was indeed disrespectful and infuriating.
Elizabeth sneered, "I don't even acknowledge Betty, so why would I consider you an elder? Respect has to be earned, and right now, you have none from me." She couldn't stand people who, claiming to be elders, would criticize her.
Linda's face turned red with anger. "You have no manners!" she spat, shocked by Elizabeth's boldness. She had never had such a heated argument with anyone before.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Is that all you can say? Then stop embarrassing yourself."
Zephyr, lying nearby, watched in silent admiration. He'd long been annoyed by Linda, as were Ruth and Karen, who quietly cheered Elizabeth's retort.
Linda's fury boiled over. She finally understood what Betty had said. She was so angry she wanted to slap Elizabeth to teach her a lesson. After all, she was an elder. She surged toward Elizabeth, hand raised to slap her. Elizabeth, coldly defiant, caught her arm. "If you provoke me, don't blame me for retaliating."
Thaddeus, seeing the altercation, sided with his wife. "Elizabeth, regardless of your feelings, she is your elder. It's wrong to be so defiant. Apologize to your aunt." Although he didn't particularly like Linda as his wife, being disrespected by Elizabeth hurt his pride.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow at Thaddeus. "Thaddeus, does Linda know about your illegitimate children and numerous mistresses?" Thaddeus had always been polite to her, even if it was just a facade. As long as Thaddeus didn't provoke her, Elizabeth wouldn't cause trouble. But if he did, she wouldn't take it lying down.
Thaddeus's face went pale. He retorted, "What nonsense are you spouting?" He was startled, wondering how Elizabeth knew about his mistresses and illegitimate children.
Linda was initially stunned. She cursed, "You bitch, trying to sow discord in my marriage!" She swung her other hand at Elizabeth.
