Chapter 379 This Is Indeed a Good Opportunity
Ryan's eyes lit up with excitement. "Awesome, I'll leave this to you. With the surveillance footage and the spell's aura, we've got all the proof we need. Even if they don't fess up, we can still nail them with the special laws."
Elizabeth nodded. "Got it."
She pulled out some yellow paper, gold powder, and a Spellscroll pen from her bag.
First, she used the pen to draw an invisible Spellscroll on Darlene's back, forcing out the lingering spell's aura. Then she dipped the pen in gold powder and drew another Spellscroll on the yellow paper, channeling energy into it. Next, she sketched in the air with the pen, like she was drawing a bridge.
Ryan and Percy watched as wisps of black smoke started to seep out of Darlene's body, slowly drifting into the Spellscroll. Once the smoke stopped, Elizabeth finished the drawing on the Spellscroll.
She handed it to Ryan. "I've sealed the spell's aura in this. Your department has some tools to track it, right?"
That was how they usually tracked down the culprit's aura during investigations. Like when they caught Samuel last time, they could detect and lock onto his aura as long as they were close.
Ryan nodded. "Yeah, we've got specialized instruments for that."
Most of their team weren't actual diviners. They often relied on modern gadgets specifically designed to counter supernatural stuff.
"Great. You can compare the spell's aura yourselves then." She said, as she checked Darlene's body again and found something under her fingernail.
Using a tool from the room, she extracted it, showing the small piece of reed, and stated, "This might be something Darlene grabbed while struggling. You can take it to the Divination Association and look for similar reed mats. Identify all of them to see if there's a match."
The special department should possess plenty of identification tools.
Ryan took out a container and put the reed inside. "You've been a huge help today."
Finding so much evidence in one go was impressive. If the person who killed Darlene knew Elizabeth had uncovered all their cover-ups, they'd be furious.
Elizabeth smiled. "I'm about to become an unofficial member, right? Consider it early work."
Ryan laughed. "That's awesome."
He put away the container and extended his hand. "Welcome aboard, Elizabeth!"
Elizabeth shook his hand. "Thanks!"
Ryan went to report to his superior, while Percy drove Elizabeth back.
On the way, Percy spoke up. "Aren't you worried the Divination Association will come after you now that you're openly opposing them?"
Elizabeth smiled. "Nope, not at all."
At that moment, the light turned red, and Percy glanced at Elizabeth. "Since the last time we met, I've noticed you have a newfound confidence."
And this time, she seemed to have an added layer of mystery.
Elizabeth chuckled, "It's nothing."
The reason she chose to oppose them was because she had advanced to a high-level diviner. Before, her low power level had held her back. Now that she had reached this level, she had more tricks up her sleeve.
Percy could tell Elizabeth didn't want to spill the beans about her newfound confidence, so he didn't push it.
He switched topics. "By the way, that evil wizard my mom hired to mess with you? He's skipped town."
Elizabeth looked surprised. "He's not coming after me anymore?"
Logically, the wizard wouldn't just bail after taking Amy's money. If he did, his rep in the diviner community would be toast. No one would hire him again, worried he'd just take the cash and run.
Percy explained, "I heard he found out the awesome stuff you've done before, so he's gearing up. He should be back within a month to find you. Be careful. Even though he's only a late-stage intermediate diviner, his mentor's a big shot."
Elizabeth nodded. "Got it." Then she suddenly asked, "Have you ever met your biological father?"
Percy was caught off guard, clearly surprised by her question. It seemed Elizabeth knew a lot more than he thought.
He shook his head. "No, I haven't. But I've talked to him on the phone twice. His voice sounded old, like someone in their fifties or sixties."
He added, "I suspect he might have changed his voice on purpose, or his voice doesn't match his appearance. If he looked like he was in his fifties or sixties, my mom wouldn't be so obsessed with him."
People say Orlando was blinded by love, but it was really Amy who was.
He continued, "Knowing my mom, she wouldn't fall for an old man. That guy must be super charming in front of her."
Elizabeth asked, "Did he contact you before I went to Aevum City or recently?"
Percy replied, "Before you went to Aevum City. He hasn't contacted me in the past three months. The people he arranged to contact me have also gone silent."
From his words, Elizabeth picked up two useful pieces of info. Ethan might look like an old man in his fifties or sixties on the surface, but with his women, he should be a handsome, ageless guy. So, regardless of any backlash, her target should primarily be an old man.
She originally suspected Xavier, the vice president of the Divination Association.
However, Zachary said that man wasn't Brenda's biological father, so the person behind it wasn't Xavier.
Elizabeth asked, "Are you going to Aevum City to catch the culprit?"
Percy nodded. "Yeah."
Even though it wasn't explicitly stated, both of them understood and agreed to work together.
Elizabeth said, "Then use your position as the special department captain to check out where the high-ranking members of the Divination Association live and look for meditation cushions to compare. Darlene is also your sister, so I suspect her death was caused by your biological father. Of course, he'll find someone to take the fall. Let's see who it is."
Percy was on Wayne's trusted list, she was surprised when she saw him. Plus, after becoming a high-level diviner, she could see through Percy's sense of destiny and aura. He didn't have any malicious intent. That was why she told him this.
Percy's eyes flickered. "In that case, even if we can't catch him, we can trace him through the fall guy."
He had no feelings for Ethan and wanted to catch him ASAP. Unfortunately, Ethan had always been hiding, never showing himself, and there were no clues. This was indeed a good opportunity.
