Chapter 464 This Is Infuriating
Elizabeth had already anticipated Xavier's response and was prepared for it. She smiled nonchalantly, her eyes steady and unwavering. "I'm a law-abiding citizen and a member of a special department," she began, her tone calm yet firm. "Unlike you and your son, who harm others to extend your lives, I have nothing to fear from such weapons. I've never aspired to transcend the real world. I'm just an ordinary person, and I don't think being the highest-level diviner makes me superior."
She paused, her expression softening slightly as she continued, "Having constraints is a good thing for the highest-level diviners. It prevents us from recklessly harming ordinary people like you do, thinking no one can stop you. I'm willing to be constrained and not afraid of it. That's the difference between us."
Elizabeth's decision to improve these two weapons went beyond just dealing with Xavier. She aimed to demonstrate to the special department and those in higher positions that even the highest-level diviners were not invincible. When faced with high-tech weapons, they remained ordinary people who could be dealt with, thus alleviating unnecessary apprehension.
By showcasing this, she hoped to reduce the wariness and defensiveness directed toward her and Zachary in the future. This was her way of signaling her stance to the special department and those above, carefully considering each step she took to ensure her next move was well thought out.
Elizabeth understood that no matter how powerful an individual might be, they couldn't stand against a nation. Even if the highest-level diviner could move mountains and seas, they could not withstand a nuclear bomb. Moreover, no diviner had ever reached such a peak of abilities.
In doing so, she was also teaching Xavier a lesson, showing him that the world had changed and that there were far more powerful forces at play.
Xavier paused, visibly frustrated. "You, you crazy woman!" he spat. "You want to be restrained? You must be out of your mind. You want to harm us; you're too wicked."
Elizabeth chuckled. "In your eyes, you are the most powerful and important. You have no moral compass and don't respect the law, so you wouldn't understand. But the law will teach you how to be a person."
Xavier had harmed so many people, he should be handed over to the law for punishment. It could also serve as a warning to those diviners with evil intentions about what they could and couldn't do.
Xavier's face twisted in anger. "Elizabeth, if I don't die, I will definitely kill you."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Do you think you'll still have a chance? You're overthinking it. Even if we use the law to punish you, after capturing you, we'll strip you of your powers. How could we possibly give you another chance to do evil?"
Percy fired the energy gun, and although he didn't waste any shots, one-fifth of the energy rings hit Xavier. Then he took out another gun and aimed at him, increasing his chances of hitting Xavier again.
Xavier's stamina and energy were depleting rapidly, and his body was no longer as agile. After being hit again, Xavier looked at Percy and shouted, "Percy, you bastard, I am your grandfather."
Percy shot back coldly. "Don't claim kinship. If you say that, I could say I'm your grandfather."
Xavier fell silent, seething with anger. "You have my blood in you. Do you think Elizabeth and the others will spare you? And you're just a medium for the Generational Blessings. If Ethan dies, without my help to suppress it, you will die immediately." If Percy could help him, he would have a chance to escape from here. But clearly, he underestimated Percy's hatred for them.
Percy sneered. "If I die, so be it. I would rather die than let you beasts go. Besides, Elizabeth's mentor has already changed my sense of destiny as a medium. As long as I keep doing good deeds, I will eventually return to normal. Even if I can't change it, so be it."
Elizabeth reassured him from the side, "Don't worry, it will definitely change. Wayne didn't lie to you." No wonder Wayne wrote in his letter that Percy was trustworthy; he had already changed Percy's sense of destiny.
Hearing Percy's words, Xavier was stunned. He muttered under his breath, "So that's it."
Suddenly, he turned his gaze sharply toward Elizabeth. "I understand now," he said, his eyes narrowing. "Your variable is because Wayne changed your sense of destiny. No wonder he suffered backlash and lost the rest of his life. He used the secret method to alter the sense of destiny."
His expression twisted with resentment, and he clenched his fists. "Wayne, that bastard," he spat, his voice filled with venom, "I should have killed him sooner."
He couldn't understand why Wayne was so kind. Wasn't immortality good? Wayne wanted to follow the natural order and experience normal aging and death, so he should just die himself. Why did he have to stop and destroy them? It really pissed him off.
Elizabeth's eyes turned cold as she listened to him. She asked Percy for the device on his wrist and the energy gun. Then she used the red laser and energy gun to deal with Xavier. Her speed was fast and precise, making it impossible for Xavier to dodge. In just a moment, he was cut into a bloody mess by the red laser. His energy was continuously weakened and reduced, leaving him powerless and collapsing to the ground.
His eyes were filled with disbelief and anger, and he was so frustrated that he felt like exploding on the spot. Not only had he lost, but he had lost to the high-tech weapons he once looked down upon. The most crucial point was that Elizabeth, whom he wanted to kill, was unharmed.
According to Xavier's plan, even if Elizabeth and Zachary teamed up, it wouldn't be easy for them to deal with him. They would have to fight to the death, and at the very least, they should be seriously injured. But the reality was starkly different: he was lying on the ground, covered in blood, while they stood not far away, looking refreshed and amused. It was infuriating.
The more Xavier thought about it, the more frustrated and angry he became, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Elizabeth sneered, "You've lived all these years, and your mental resilience is still this poor? Is getting this angry really necessary?"
Xavier fell silent, even angrier. The others were silent too. Although they enjoyed the spectacle, they realized that if they were in Xavier and Ethan's shoes, they would indeed be spitting blood from anger. They were certain that Elizabeth was not only powerful but also had a first-class talent for infuriating people. Better not to mess with her in the future.
