Chapter 227 She Couldn't Wait Any Longer
Richard's words hit Arnold and Kevin like a ton of bricks.
Their little bubble of self-comfort? Totally popped.
They couldn't help but think, 'If this happens to Elizabeth, she's definitely gonna beg our parents. If that doesn't work, she'll probably go out and kneel with Enrique.'
But that was the old Elizabeth. The new Elizabeth would probably just laugh in Enrique's face and say, "Serves you right."
Compared to that, Brenda's concern seemed super fake.
Kevin sighed, "Yeah, if Brenda really cared, she wouldn't just talk and make us go beg Dad. Anyway, if we go, it's not her getting chewed out by Dad. But she gets all the brownie points with Enrique. And she keeps up this act like she's all kind and caring about Enrique."
He went on, "Speaking of which, I can't help but remember the first episode of the reality show. I forced myself to eat the pasta she made and ended up with the runs. She acted concerned but didn't even stay with me. The next day, she totally forgot about me, and it was the production team made the porridge I drank."
"But when I used to have a stomachache, Elizabeth would make food for me. She'd send messages reminding me to eat on time and stuff. For a while, she even brought meals to the company for me. How could I have been so blind back then, not seeing Elizabeth's goodness?" He laughed at himself. "Comparisons really show who's truly good."
Mentioning this made Arnold feel bad too. He mumbled, "Yeah, in the filming of this episode of the reality show, Brenda hurt me too. Forget about the time I took the blame alone. Just talking about my sore throat, Elizabeth used to prepare throat lozenges for me. She'd remind me not to drink or to drink less. But Brenda just asked if I needed her to buy medicine. When I said no, she really didn't. In the following days, she didn't even ask how my throat was. We used to show her a lot of care and affection in our actions."
He went on sadly, "That time we went to the wilderness, she suddenly had a fever, and the car broke down on the way back to the city. We couldn't get a ride, so Enrique, Kevin, and I took turns carrying her, running dozens of miles to the hospital. But what about her? How did she treat us when we were sick?"
Richard chimed in, "So you guys should recognize what kind of person she is. As for Generational Blessings, I believe in it. Whether you do or not is up to you. If Brenda steals Generational Blessings, don't blame me for not warning you."
Arnold and Kevin replied together, "Got it."
After reminding them, Richard told them not to inform Loren, Enrique, and Betty. Then he went to find Paul.
Arnold looked at Kevin and teased, "Only you will be there for the next episode of the reality show to watch Enrique's drama."
Kevin whined with a bitter face, "Can I choose not to go?"
Earlier, he had asked Richard if he wanted to go to the next episode of the reality show and got a big eye roll in response.
Arnold raised an eyebrow and replied, "Do you think that's possible? You're a regular guest; you definitely can't escape."
Kevin still wanted to make a last-ditch effort and called Loren, who hadn't gone home yet.
He asked the same question if Loren wanted to go to the next episode of the reality show. Then he got a "not interested" reply.
Kevin looked at Arnold enviously and sighed, "You're lucky. You can escape this."
Now, going on a live reality show felt like a nightmare to Kevin. However, he had committed to three episodes, and Arthur had only allowed him to bring Brenda because of that. Backing out would ruin his reputation in the industry, so canceling the contract was out of the question.
Kevin thought for a sec and asked, "You really think just asking can borrow Generational Blessings?"
Arnold frowned. "Nah, man. If asking to borrow Generational Blessings actually worked, it'd mean they'd get transferred and taken away. That's some spooky stuff. Plus, we've never heard Brenda ask us for anything like that."
Kevin nodded. "Yeah, I don't think it's that scary either."
They were both kinda on the fence about it.
Meanwhile, Richard took Paul out for a stroll. Finding a spot away from the cameras, Richard quietly spilled the beans to Paul.
Paul's face darkened. He muttered, "Looks like our family's been a target from the start. If that's true, Elizabeth's disappearance wasn't just a fluke. No wonder we tried everything and still couldn't find her."
Back then, the Clark family had gone all out—police reports, high-reward notices, asking everyone they knew to keep an eye out.
It had to be Brenda's crew messing things up behind the scenes.
Paul's eyes turned icy. "It's gotta be her people causing all this trouble."
Richard nodded. "Elizabeth probably got handed over to human traffickers by them. She was lucky to meet Wayne. Otherwise, she'd have been sold into who knows what."
Thinking about what Elizabeth might've gone through over the past decade made Richard feel like crap.
Paul felt it too. Who'd have thought Elizabeth's disappearance was all planned?
He gritted his teeth. "We gotta break this. We can't let them get away with it. I'm thinking of sending Enrique abroad so he won't have any more contact with Brenda."
Otherwise, Paul didn't know how much more damage Brenda would do to Enrique.
Now Enrique was kneeling outside, still not showing any signs of regret.
So, the only solution was to separate them.
Richard suggested, "Actually, letting Enrique suffer a bit from Brenda might make him see her true colors and wake up." Then he repeated what Elizabeth had said.
Paul thought it made sense. He agreed, "Alright, let him join the next episode."
He squinted. "You and Loren push him to make sure he goes."
Richard smiled and nodded. "Dad, don't worry, I got this."
After getting back to her room, Brenda crashed. After such a long flight, she was beat.
As she slept, she suddenly dreamed she was walking into a dark corridor with no light, unable to find a way out. She felt super scared and kept struggling. Her breathing got harder, like she was suffocating.
She didn't know how long it took before she suddenly opened her eyes and broke free from the dream.
Sitting up, she took deep breaths, trying to shake off the lingering fear from the vivid dream. Letting out a sigh of relief, she was grateful it was only a dream.
However, as she examined her hands, she noticed more blemishes. Hastily getting up to check in the mirror, she discovered not only had her skin deteriorated, but she also spotted a few wrinkles forming at the corners of her eyes. Her eyes widened. Her Generational Blessings had weakened again.
Samuel had told her before that if she could take Elizabeth's Generational Blessings, her luck would keep getting better.
The more the Clark family brothers genuinely loved and pampered her, the more stable her Generational Blessings would be.
If she could become a superstar in the entertainment industry with millions or even billions of fans, her Generational Blessings would overflow, and she would become more and more beautiful.
Once her Generational Blessings weakened and vanished, she would suffer a backlash: her luck and lifespan would deteriorate, and she would age rapidly, turning dark and ugly. Brenda, anxious and panicked, stifled a scream.
She had to find a way to replenish her Generational Blessings. Then she remembered a method she had planned to use later, but now she couldn't wait any longer.
