Chapter 384 Failed Again, What Should I Do?
Alaric could tell what Elizabeth was itching to ask. He said, "Percy took your advice and zeroed in on that Meditation cushion. He stumbled on a big clue, but they were at the Divination Association, so talking on the phone wasn't an option. They planned to report back in Clifftonshireburg, but then... well, you know."
He realized Percy and his partner must've found something huge, which got them attacked.
Elizabeth frowned. "Just as I thought." She pointed to the guy in the video and asked, "What's this guy's deal in the Divination Association? Got any info on him?"
Alaric nodded. "Yeah, but all the details are in Ryan's investigation files. Those files are missing; someone took them. Whoever's behind this guy must be high up in the Divination Society."
He sighed, "With what happened to Ryan and his partner, I'm scared to send anyone to Aevum City. Don't want more trouble. Our investigation's stuck again. But hey, we have you. Once Ryan and Percy wake up, we'll know what they found and what went down."
Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, we gotta wait for them to wake up."
Ethan was ruthless, and since Aevum City was his turf, sending more people there would probably just cause more problems.
Alaric said, "I'll keep you posted if I hear anything."
He had a gut feeling that exposing Ethan and digging up dirt on the shady folks in their department was key, making Elizabeth super important in all this. His instincts had always been spot-on, saving him from danger before, so he wanted Elizabeth in the loop the whole way.
Elizabeth nodded. "Got it!"
She didn't stick around long and drove back to the studio. Meanwhile, Shirley and Nicole had signed a bunch of promising celebs to the studio. Elizabeth planned to find some good gigs for them. Running a talent agency meant she had to take care of the talent they signed.
Two days later...
The divination master sent by the Divination Association showed up at the Clark Family's place.
After checking out Betty, he tried a bunch of stuff but nothing worked.
He shook his head. "The person who put this venomous insect in you is way better than me; I can't get it out."
Betty's face fell. "You can't do anything?"
The divination master gave a bitter smile. "Sorry, I'm out of options."
Betty was freaking out. "If you can't get rid of it, what's gonna happen to me?"
The divination master was blunt. "Your skin will stay the same. Your mental state will get worse as the insect absorbs more. In the short term, it won't mess with your lifespan, but if it stays in you for over a year, it'll start cutting your life short as it drains your vital essence."
Betty panicked, asking, "What do I do then? Isn't there anyone else in the Divination Association who can help? Aren't your president and vice president super powerful?"
The divination master replied, "If they step in, there's hope. But the president is in seclusion, and the vice president is out of town, so it's not possible right now. I do have a way to temporarily suppress the venomous insect in your body. You can use it for now, and when the president comes out of seclusion or the vice president returns, you can ask them for help."
Betty really didn't want to wait, but she couldn't force it if she couldn't find anyone. "Isn't there a very powerful Mr. Murphy in your Divination Society? Can you ask him to help me?"
She had heard that Zachary was as famous as the other two presidents. And while many divination masters were stumped by Enrique's situation, Zachary managed to solve it, so she had some hope.
Hearing this, the divination master looked troubled. "Mr. Murphy, although a student of the vice president, has a very special status in the Divination Society. He is very powerful but also has a peculiar temper. Not even the vice president can command him. If you want his help, you have to ask him yourself and see if he's willing."
They didn't dare to disturb Zachary for this matter.
Betty didn't expect Zachary's status to be so special. 'Does this mean Zachary is so powerful that no one can command him?' she thought.
"If we can get him to help, can he remove the venomous insect from my body?" she asked.
The divination master nodded. "If Mr. Murphy takes action, the venomous insect in your body can definitely be removed, but he has a habit of never leaving Aevum City to help anyone. So if you want his help, you have to go to Aevum City yourself." He added, "But he has to agree; otherwise, going there is useless."
Betty couldn't help but feel a bit hopeful. If Zachary was willing to help Enrique, he should help her too. "Okay, we'll contact him."
Then the divination master prepared a kind of incense. He told Betty to carry it with her every day to temporarily suppress the venomous insect's activity.
Before leaving, the divination master thought for a moment and said, "By the way, I suddenly remembered another person who can help remove it."
Paul asked, "Who?"
The divination master said, "Mr. McDonald from Mystic Divination Academy of Clifftonshireburg, who is also the vice president's junior."
Paul nodded. "Okay, thank you for the reminder."
After the divination master left, Paul said to Betty, "How about I go to Mystic Divination Academy first and ask Mr. McDonald to try? If it doesn't work, we'll find Mr. Murphy."
He wasn't very confident about asking Zachary. It was clear that Zachary didn't like their family. Zachary's personality was indeed cold, and money or gifts probably wouldn't move him. He helped Enrique last time because of Elizabeth.
As long as the venomous insect could be removed, Betty didn't care who they asked. She held Paul's hand and said, "Okay, I'm counting on you."
Now, the only person she could trust and rely on was Paul. Elizabeth was heartless, and her sons were all ungrateful.
