Chapter 369 Dissatisfaction
As expected, Paul who was currently at the Divination Association headquarters wasn't happy with the outcome. He asked, "So, Alfonso's strong enough to mess with and control people now? If that's true, why didn't he just control us and grab the Generational Blessings? Wouldn't that be easier?"
The supervisor handling the case replied, "He's not that strong. He used a flower that messes with people's minds. It only works on folks with weak wills. It wouldn't work on you."
Paul wasn't buying it. He'd suspected for a while that Alfonso and Brenda were in on something together but it definitely wasn't just mind control.
"Then why did Alfonso target us? Just for the Generational Blessings?" he pressed. "There are plenty of people with better Generational Blessings than my sons. Why us? It doesn't add up."
The supervisor explained, "We found out Alfonso has a grudge against your family. That's why he did this. Years ago, because of this grudge, he schemed to get Brenda into your family."
Paul was shocked. "A grudge against us? What grudge?" He had no clue about this.
The supervisor continued, "Over twenty years ago, his wife worked as a maid in your house. But after some incident, Mrs. Clark scolded her and kicked her out. In a daze, she got into a car accident and died. She was pregnant at the time, and the baby was lost too. Alfonso blames Mrs. Clark and has hated your family ever since.
"He not only became the divination master for the Clark Group but also arranged for Brenda, who has a similar birthday to Elizabeth, to become your adopted daughter. All to get back at your family."
He paused for a moment and then continued, "He wanted to use Brenda to take away your family's Generational Blessings and bring misfortune to your family as revenge."
After saying this, he handed Paul a file with the findings. "Take a look at this. If you still don't believe it, you can investigate it yourself."
Paul took the file and flipped through it. Seeing Alfonso's wife's photo, he found her strikingly familiar. Thinking back, she did work as a maid in his house. He remembered her because she once entered his study looking for something. Betty caught her and thought she was trying to steal business secrets, so she kicked her out.
He even investigated her afterward to see if she was a corporate spy from a rival company but found nothing and let it go.
All this trouble because of that woman? Something felt off; it couldn't be that simple.
He thought for a moment and asked again, "If Alfonso became the divination master of our group, he must be pretty capable and not short on money. So why would his wife work as a maid in our house? That doesn't make sense!"
The supervisor seemed ready for this question. He pulled out another file and explained, "Her brother was a manager at your rival company. He asked his sister to steal business info from your house. She wasn't a pro, so she got caught by Mrs. Clark. Alfonso's hatred for your family mainly comes from believing you caused his wife and unborn child's deaths. Otherwise, it was his wife's fault, and the car accident wasn't something you arranged. But he needed someone to blame. That's why Alfonso set up all these schemes and did so many wrong things."
Paul couldn't argue with the supervisor's reasoning. The guy made it clear that Alfonso had his own issues, and it all stemmed from Betty.
He frowned and asked, "So, what are you gonna do about it?"
The supervisor replied, "Alfonso's getting kicked out of the Divination Association, and his divination license is getting yanked. He won't be allowed to practice anymore. Then, he'll be handed over to a special department and do time in a special prison. Even though he hasn't caused major harm to your family yet, his actions are serious enough that he'll probably get around twenty years."
Paul pressed on, "What about Brenda?"
The supervisor said, "Brenda was under Alfonso's control. She's a victim and has suffered backlash and harm, but she'll still face a half-month punishment from the Divination Association. After that, she'll be released."
Paul wasn't happy with that. From any angle, Brenda didn't seem like someone who was controlled. But he knew the Divination Association had already made up their minds. They called him over just to inform him, not to get his opinion.
Rich folks usually got respect from most people, but fortune-tellers were different; they saw themselves as above everyone else. If you ticked off a fortune-teller, they could easily mess with your life, and it would be the rich who suffered.
That was why there were organizations like the Divination Association and special departments to keep them in check. But it was clear the Divination Association wanted to protect Brenda this time, leaving Paul with no options.
He said sarcastically, "Fine, whatever you say goes. My objections don't matter anyway."
The supervisor smiled and said, "Mr. Clark, if you have objections, you can certainly raise them."
Paul raised an eyebrow. "Then I think Brenda is a big problem. She deliberately harmed my sons. Can you send her to prison too?"
The supervisor replied helplessly, "Sorry, our findings show she's also a victim, so we can't send her to prison."
Paul sneered, "Then what's the point of talking?"
Despite his words, Paul still decided to use his connections to file a complaint with the special department when he got back to Clifftonshireburg.
"Let's drop this. Can you arrange what I asked for earlier?" Paul said. Even though he was unhappy with the outcome, he still needed divination masters for protection.
The supervisor smiled. "No problem. Coincidentally, we have two divination masters heading to Clifftonshireburg tomorrow. They can go with you."
Paul nodded and didn't stick around. He left with the file of findings. After leaving, the more he thought about it, the more something felt off. He tried to contact Elizabeth, but all his calls and other contact methods were blocked. This left him feeling very uneasy. He had to ask Richard to get in touch with Elizabeth and have her call him.
