Chapter 411 Natalie's Father Is Sick
Elizabeth was on board, and Raymond wasted no time asking folks one by one. He told them about the plan to hit up Shadow Peak next week and asked if they were in.
Ronald had just joined a film crew, so he was out. Elbert had a variety show lined up, so he couldn't make it either. But Nancy, Marlon, and Gilbert were all free and totally down for the trip. Natalie didn't have any work scheduled, but her dad was sick, so she had to pass. Raymond didn't bother inviting Eugene and the Clark Family brothers since they always brought bad vibes.
Once he had the crew sorted, Raymond filled Elizabeth in.
Elizabeth was a bit surprised. She then suggested, "Natalie's dad is sick? Should we go visit him in the hospital?" She had been in touch with Natalie and had even chatted with her a few days ago.
Raymond nodded, "Sure thing!" Elizabeth and Natalie were pretty tight, so visiting her sick dad seemed like the right move.
Elizabeth pulled out her phone and called Natalie. Natalie felt all warm and fuzzy inside when she heard that Elizabeth and Raymond wanted to visit Vincent. She gave them the hospital and room details.
When Elizabeth and Raymond got to the hospital and reached the room, they heard a sharp female voice. "I can take care of him, but you need to give me fifty grand," she demanded.
Natalie's voice came through, angry and shocked. "Are you nuts? The guy lying there is your legal husband, and you want money to take care of him? What do you need fifty grand for? To cover your brothers' business losses again? No way. With fifty grand, I could hire top-notch caregivers for my dad. Why would I need someone as irresponsible as you? Just leave. My dad doesn't need your fake concern. And don't come back to the hospital."
The woman kept cursing Natalie. She turned to Vincent, "Do you not need my care either? Think carefully, if you miss today, even if you beg me on your knees, I won't come back."
A weak male voice responded, "I'll listen to Natalie. If you don't want to come, then don't. I also beg you, stop harming Natalie for the sake of your family."
The woman angrily spat, "You useless piece of trash, you..."
Soon, the door opened. Natalie dragged out a woman dressed in designer clothes and wearing perfect makeup, looking like she was in her thirties.
Natalie warned her, "You're really annoying. We can't afford someone like you, so just leave. If you come to disturb my dad's rest again, I'll cut off your living expenses."
The woman was about to curse when she saw Elizabeth and Raymond. To keep up appearances, she swallowed her words. She glared at Natalie and said through gritted teeth, "I think you're the one who's crazy. Ignoring your own uncle to take care of your useless dad. I really don't know what you're after."
Natalie was fuming. She snapped, "Leave, just leave!"
The woman pouted, "Fine, I'll leave. Don't come begging me later." With that, she turned and stormed off, clearly unhappy.
Natalie then noticed Elizabeth and Raymond. She apologized, "That's my mom. Sorry you had to see that."
Elizabeth shrugged it off, "They're the joke themselves, just ignore them."
Natalie remembered the recent rumors about Betty moving out of the Clark Family for Brenda. She nodded, "Yeah, we should just ignore them. Please, come in."
Elizabeth and Raymond walked in and saw an emaciated old man lying on the bed. His hair was gray, and he looked really weak. Even though he was only around fifty, he looked like he was in his sixties. But his eyes were gentle and clear.
Vincent greeted them with a smile, "Hello, I'm Natalie's father, Vincent. Thanks for coming to see me. Please, have a seat!"
Elizabeth and Raymond smiled back, "Hello!"
After they sat down, Vincent chatted with them for a bit. It was clear he was a talkative and cultured guy. But he wasn't in great shape and got tired after a while.
Elizabeth felt something was off. She looked at Vincent and realized there was indeed a problem. Normally, Vincent's life should have been smooth. He might not have been super rich, but he should have had a prosperous life with a happy family. But now, he was seriously ill and constantly unlucky.
Vincent's sense of destiny showed that his wife had cheated on him, and he had no children. But it was clear he was a kind and open-hearted person. Despite all the illness and setbacks, he stayed positive and hardworking. He had little resentment and hadn't turned bitter.
This made Elizabeth feel a bit of affection for Vincent. No wonder Natalie treated him like her own father, even though he wasn't her biological dad. They got along like a real father and daughter.
Vincent's condition was definitely caused by Ethan. Elizabeth also noticed that Vincent's lips were dark and there was a hint of evil aura between his eyebrows. He had been poisoned with Whisperfade.
Someone had used evil energy to draw a spell scroll, burned it to ashes, and mixed it with water for him to drink, turning it into a toxin. Drinking the water would cause organ problems and lead to a serious illness. Medical treatment could help, but it couldn't cure it completely. As long as the toxin remained in Vincent's body, his health would keep getting worse.
Elizabeth thought for a moment and then asked, "Vincent, can I ask you something?"
Vincent smiled kindly, "Of course."
Elizabeth asked, "The day before you suddenly fell ill, did someone give you a glass of water or some kind of drink? After drinking it, did you feel inexplicably cold?"
Vincent looked surprised. "How did you know? The day before I fell ill, my wife, Piper, brought me a glass of juice. After drinking it, I did feel a bit cold. I thought she had added ice."
Natalie felt anxious. She couldn't help but ask, "Elizabeth, was there something wrong with the juice my dad drank?"
