Chapter 18

Nancy watched the whole thing go down.

She realized a lot of the online gossip was just that—gossip.

People were saying Elizabeth was all over Eugene and that he couldn't stand her, just wanted her gone.

But what just happened showed the opposite. Elizabeth was the one cutting ties with Eugene, not the other way around.

The next morning...

Elizabeth was up early, working out in the yard.

Arthur's team showed up just as she was wrapping up.

Arthur knew Elizabeth; she had saved his wife once.

He grinned and said, "Up early for a boxing routine, huh? Why not wait for the live stream?"

The moves Elizabeth had just finished were impressive.

Anyone who knew their stuff could see she wasn't a newbie. She had real skills.

If she showed this off during the morning live stream, it would probably draw a lot of fans.

Elizabeth smiled. "Good things always shine through."

It was only the second day of the live stream, and plenty of people were still against her.

No need to rush things.

Arthur didn't expect Elizabeth to be so chill. "You've got a great attitude."

"In a few days, when you're practicing, can we start the live stream early?"

He thought for a second and added, "Or we could record a video tomorrow while you're practicing and release it first."

This would not only help Elizabeth make a stronger impression on the audience but also bring more viewers and buzz to the show.

Elizabeth wasn't about to turn down Arthur's offer. "Sure, thanks, Arthur."

Hearing their conversation, a few people who had followed Arthur realized that not only did Arthur know Elizabeth, but he also looked out for her.

Their attitude towards Elizabeth became more respectful.

Just then, other guests started coming out to wash up.

The live broadcast was set to start at 7:30.

Raymond looked at his three teammates and asked, "Are we having breakfast today?"

Elizabeth checked the time. "Let's go help pick peaches. Maybe we can trade them for breakfast."

"Today, we can trade for some food and make our breakfast later."

Just as the four were about to leave, the other team came out of their rooms.

Kevin looked at Raymond and asked, "Are you guys going out to find work?"

He added, "We asked dozens of households yesterday, so it should be easier to find work today."
Raymond puffed up his chest. "We're not looking for work; we've already got it lined up. We're heading straight there."

Kevin and his team looked shocked.

Kevin asked, "When did you find the work?"

Raymond smirked. "Yesterday, thanks to Elizabeth. She found it and took us there."

He added with pride, "And it's not just for today. We've got work lined up for the whole week, so no worries about food."

Kevin turned to Elizabeth, half-skeptical. "How did you manage that?"

Elizabeth saw the doubt in his eyes.

She replied coolly, "How I did it is none of your business."

"Instead of questioning me, you should hurry up and find work."

Kevin was irritated. "You don't need to worry about that; we'll find work."

Elizabeth scoffed, "Who has the time to worry about you?"

"You!" Kevin realized Elizabeth had become even more annoying since she cut ties with the Clark family.

Elizabeth ignored him and turned to Raymond and the others. "Let's go."

The four of them left the yard, chatting and laughing, each wearing a straw hat.

Kevin's team looked a bit defeated.

Eugene looked at his teammates and said, "Let's go find work, too."

Even though he was here to support and promote Brenda, he couldn't let the other team show him up.
Lisa, noticing the sun was already up, remembered the straw hats the other team was holding.

She asked Arthur, "Arthur, where can we get our hats?"

Arthur looked puzzled. "What hats? We didn't issue any hats!"

Lisa was confused. "If you didn't issue them, what were those hats the other team was holding?"

Arthur then understood and laughed. "Oh, those. We didn't issue them."

"Elizabeth and Nancy made their own straw hats. We can't provide them."

Brenda kept a sweet smile on her face but felt a pang of discomfort inside.

She thought to herself, 'Elizabeth, Elizabeth, why is it always Elizabeth? She's everywhere.'

She silently cursed Lisa for being so talkative.

Determined, she said, "Let's go too and try to get more food today."

She was set on performing well and outshining Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth and her team arrived at the farmer's house where they had arranged to work the day before.

The family was having noodles when they arrived.

Seeing the four, they quickly stood up to greet them.

The hostess smiled and asked, "Have you had breakfast?"

Raymond, looking a bit pitiful, said, "Not yet."

"Can you provide breakfast? We'll work hard in return."

He was indeed feeling a bit hungry.
