Chapter 342 Aren't You Overstepping Your Boundaries?
In Clifftonshireburg.
The more Amy thought about it, the angrier she got. Then she got a message from that evil wizard. After reading it, she had a change of heart and called Betty to cry and complain.
She kept stirring the pot between Betty and Elizabeth, hoping to drive a permanent wedge between the mother and daughter. She wanted Betty to feel more resentment and disgust towards Elizabeth. At the same time, she asked Betty for a favor.
The next day.
Elizabeth's crew went out to set up their fortune-telling stall again. Since Zachary didn't do anything yesterday, Elizabeth let him go first today.
Zachary looked a bit helpless, saying, "Elizabeth, I don't like helping people with fortune-telling. This time, just for you, I'll do it for three people."
He had long stopped easily giving readings to others, not wanting too much interaction with ordinary folks. If Elizabeth hadn't been watching him, he wouldn't have helped anyone with fortune-telling.
Elizabeth could see his reluctance. It only deepened her suspicion.
She said, "Alright, I don't want to force you. Just do it for three people. We'll draw lots, and whoever gets picked will get a reading. I'll only do ten readings today." The income from today and yesterday would be enough to cover the next two days' food and lodging.
Zachary nodded. "Alright."
The group went back to the same spot as yesterday to set up their stall. Eugene and Kevin stayed by Elizabeth's side as usual. Because Elizabeth's readings were so accurate yesterday, and some people had heard that Zachary would be doing readings today, they had come from other places specifically for this. As soon as the stall was set up, many people lined up for readings.
Elizabeth looked at the dense crowd and said, "Today we will only do readings for thirteen people." She then pointed to Kevin behind her and said, "I'll do ten readings. If you want a reading from me, come here and draw lots with him. The ten people who get picked, line up and wait."
Then she pointed to Eugene. "If you want a reading from Zachary, draw lots with him. The three people who get picked, line up."
Elizabeth's fans, and those who had witnessed her skills yesterday, lined up with Kevin. Those who were drawn to Zachary's looks or him personally went to Eugene. Thirteen people were picked soon.
Elizabeth raised her hand to Zachary and said, "Zachary, please!"
Zachary nodded. "Alright!"
Then he began to read for the first person in line. Like Elizabeth, he looked at the person's sense of destiny and then told them their situation. He then took out three Rune stones from his pocket, asked the person to silently think about their question, and then roll the stones six times.
Elizabeth's gaze fell on those three Rune stones. They were indeed ancient artifacts, exuding a strong sense of Karma.
Elizabeth kept watching Zachary. She noticed that while he was calculating, he exuded a mysterious and ethereal aura. It was as if he could turn into a deity at any moment. His techniques were also very ancient.
Zachary was very skilled. As soon as the person finished, he began to speak. He proactively told the person what they were seeking. This made the person widen their eyes in shock. He hadn't even said anything, and Zachary had already figured it out. Truly impressive. It was worth the trip from Clifftonshireburg overnight.
Soon, Zachary finished with this person. The person showed more respect, paid the fee, and gave up their spot to the second person.
Next, Zachary easily and simply read for the other two people. He also gave very insightful advice to the last person. That person was so grateful that they were on the verge of tears.
The viewers in the livestream also kept praising Zachary and marveled at how he was indeed as impressive as Elizabeth, being her senior.
After watching Zachary read and advise three people, Elizabeth was totally sure of her suspicion. No need for more testing.
She then did readings for ten people. Since there were fewer readings today, they packed up by lunchtime.
Zachary knew Aevum City like the back of his hand. So, Elizabeth asked him to show them and the livestream audience around. Zachary was indeed very knowledgeable, almost like he knew every corner of Aevum City. It was like this was his own place.
After having dinner with the other two groups, everyone headed back to the hotel. Once at the hotel, the day's livestream ended.
As Elizabeth was heading back to her room, she ran into Betty coming down the stairs. It seemed like Betty was deliberately waiting for her. Elizabeth pretended not to see her and tried to walk past.
Betty, already seething, felt a surge of anger as she observed Elizabeth pretending not to recognize her. She frowned and looked at Elizabeth, taking the initiative to speak, "You see me and don't even say hello?"
Elizabeth turned her head to look at her, coldly saying, "We severed ties a long time ago. Mrs. Clark, please have some self-respect."
Betty was silent for a moment. She then took a deep breath and said, "Fine, you don't acknowledge me as your mother, I won't force you. I just want to ask, was the stuff online your doing? You and Eugene were once together, and no matter what, Amy is your elder. Isn't what you're doing a bit too much?"
Last night, Amy had a video call with her, her eyes swollen from crying. Amy mentioned she was being threatened by Elizabeth. And because of Caleb, Elizabeth was taking it out on her and actively seeking revenge. That was why the Facebook incident happened, with most of it being slander. Amy then complained to Betty and asked her to speak to Elizabeth.
She implied that she could apologize as long as Elizabeth would leave the King Family alone. Seeing Amy's state, Betty felt very uncomfortable. She also thought Elizabeth was going too far. Caleb was the one who made the mistake, so why take it out on Amy and keep attacking her?
Hearing Betty's words, Elizabeth found it amusing as she asked, "Mrs. Clark, aren't you meddling a bit too much? Besides, I'm in Aevum City filming a show, how could I do the things you're talking about? A brain is a good thing; don't forget to bring yours along when you leave."
She noticed that Betty looked much more haggard, and her sense of destiny had changed.
Fortune-tellers typically avoided reading for themselves or their family members since the readings tended to be ambiguous. However, she had already severed ties with Betty, and with her newfound enlightenment, she could now faintly discern some things about Betty through divination.
Betty's sense of destiny had become increasingly harsh, and she seemed to be under some kind of delusion. There was also a faint greenish tint on her forehead, indicating that if she continued in this state, she might face a calamity.
Moreover, Elizabeth could clearly feel that Betty's dislike for her was growing. There was also a noticeable sense of resentment and misplaced anger. Helping the so-called friend Amy to question her was, in fact, a way for Betty to vent her own dissatisfaction towards her, wasn't it?
Being scolded so harshly by Elizabeth, Betty's face darkened. "Even if you don't acknowledge me as your mother, I'm still your elder, right? Is this how you treat your elders?"
Elizabeth smiled as she retorted, "I know how to respect my elders. But an elder who deserves respect must be worthy of it!" She looked at Betty and said pointedly, "Clearly, you don't fall into that category."
Betty paused, her chest tightening with anger. "You!" She suddenly didn't know what to say.
She had been hesitating about helping Amy. But after being rebuked and mocked by Elizabeth, she was no longer wavering. Her gaze then fell on Elizabeth's shoulder, where there was a strand of hair.
