Chapter 267 What a Miscalculation
Elizabeth wasn't shocked to see Richard looking like he'd been through a tornado. She let him in, giving him a quick once-over, noting his messy appearance and the clear signs of a rough day.
Richard didn't waste any time. "Does taking on someone else's bad luck make me even unluckier?" he asked, sounding pretty desperate. "Enrique wasn't nearly as unlucky as I am!"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep, because you took on such heavy bad luck for him, he gets a free pass for three days."
Richard's shoulders slumped. "I have to be this miserable just to help him for three days? If this keeps happening, I'm toast."
Elizabeth replied calmly, "You won't die, but being this unlucky all the time is just part of the deal."
Richard didn't want to go through this kind of bad luck again. He shuddered at the thought of his recent misfortunes and felt a wave of relief that Brenda hadn't borrowed his Generational Blessings. That would've been a nightmare on repeat.
"Can you make that gemstone amulet for me now?" he asked, his voice tinged with urgency. He needed it, needed to feel that sense of security it promised.
Elizabeth took out a carved, thumb-sized mini gemstone amulet. Using a Spellscroll pen, she transferred Richard's aura into the gemstone amulet. Then she drew a Spellscroll on it to seal it.
Ten minutes later, she strung the gemstone amulet with a red thread and handed it to Richard.
She said briefly, "It's done. I've transferred your aura into this gemstone amulet so that the previous Spellscroll will be invalid."
Richard clutched the amulet tightly, marveling at how something so small could bring such a sense of relief. He couldn't help but think about the absurdity of it all—how Elizabeth could make a fortune in minutes with these tiny charms? But he wisely kept those thoughts to himself.
After putting the gemstone amulet around his neck, he breathed a sigh of relief and finally felt safe again. Then he remembered his friends. He asked, "Hubert and Eugene also want to buy a gemstone amulet like this. Can I ask if you can make one for them?"
Elizabeth replied, "I can sell one to Hubert but not to Eugene."
This morning, she had discovered that someone had released photos of the group at the airport, clarifying yesterday's rumors.
If it wasn't Raymond who did it, then it had to be Eugene. She found Eugene quite laughable. Now that they had broken up and had no relationship, he still wanted to meddle in her affairs. He really thought too highly of himself.
Richard immediately knew that Eugene had offended Elizabeth. As for why, it was definitely because of the rumors. Eugene had clearly crossed a line.
"Alright," he said, choosing not to push his luck. "I'll tell Hubert to come get his amulet."
Richard then asked, "Now that I have this gemstone amulet, does it mean I won't be unlucky today?"
Elizabeth said, "I can only say that Enrique's bad luck won't be transferred to you anymore. If you're supposed to be unlucky yourself, you'll still be unlucky."
The main function of the gemstone amulet she made for Richard was to protect him from being harmed by others and to ensure he wouldn't be in mortal danger.
She didn't take care of anything else; she deliberately didn't draw the complete Spellscroll on it.
Richard had to accept it. "Alright."
He asked, "So Enrique will start being unlucky again the day after tomorrow?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes."
Richard felt relieved upon hearing this; that bastard Enrique deserved to continue being unlucky.
He wanted to say something to get closer to Elizabeth. But Elizabeth didn't pay him any attention and directly kicked him out.
Richard could only leave dejectedly.
After going downstairs, he posted what Elizabeth had said in the group chat.
Hubert: [Thank goodness Elizabeth is generous and didn't take it out on me. I'll find her to buy the gemstone amulet tomorrow.]
Eugene felt a pang in his heart.
Eugene: [Did she say why she wouldn't sell it to me?]
Richard: [Isn't it obvious?]
Hubert: [Eugene, there's one thing you lack compared to Richard; you should learn some self-awareness from him. Elizabeth is clearly annoyed with you for meddling and wants to deal with you. Why deceive yourself?]
Eugene: [Can you not be so sharp with your words?]
Hubert: [If we weren't friends, I wouldn't bother saying this. I'm just trying to make you see clearly.]
Eugene: [Then let's not be friends for now.]
He refused to face the truth; he couldn't bring himself to move on from Elizabeth. It would be more painful than a physical wound.
Hubert: [You're a lost cause.]
Hubert: [But I have no right to criticize you since I've done similar things.]
Hubert: [You're such a bad influence.]
Eugene: [That was your own doing, what does it have to do with me? Let's go out for a drink.]
Hubert: [Not coming, I'm not as free as you.]
Richard: [I'm not coming either, I'm injured and can't drink.]
Hubert: [What happened to you? Had bad luck last night?]
Richard explained what happened last night through a voice message.
Hubert: [Richard, you're really miserable. You need to keep your gemstone amulet safe this time.]
He also felt the need to protect his own.
Eugene: [Yeah, if it gets taken again, you might be even worse off.]
Richard: [I won't be seeing Enrique anytime soon. I'll just watch him be unlucky.]
Richard: [Hopefully, Elizabeth will give him a hard time during the variety show recording.]
Hubert: [Now that you mention it, I'm also looking forward to seeing Enrique get what's coming to him from Elizabeth.]
Eugene: [I can watch it live; I'm looking forward to it, too.]
The three of them were clearly waiting for Enrique to get his comeuppance.
Meanwhile, Enrique, lying on Arnold's apartment sofa playing mobile games, sneezed several times. But he was in a great mood.
Ever since he had taken Richard's Spellscroll yesterday, he hadn't been unlucky. This feeling was much better.
However, his good mood only lasted three days.
On the fourth day, he started being unlucky again. He also discovered that the Spellscroll he had kept in his clothes had turned to ashes, which confirmed that the Spellscroll Elizabeth drew could help him ward off bad luck.
So he called Richard again. Soon, Richard picked up. "Richard, where are you?"
Richard had yet to settle the score with Enrique; he still had to deal with the other two brothers. He answered, "Out, what's up?"
Enrique said, "I want to treat you to dinner. How about we meet for dinner?"
Richard fell silent, thinking, 'Enrique really thinks I'm a fool. He was clearly trying to lure me in to steal the protective Spellscroll. What did I do to deserve this?'
He said, "No time. Enrique, don't play games with me. I don't have a Spellscroll on me, but Arnold and Kevin do. If you want to steal a protective Spellscroll, can you switch targets next time?"
Enrique fell silent, realizing Richard had seen through him. He didn't bother hiding it anymore. He grinned, "Richard, you're really smart. Thanks for the tip, I'll switch targets then."
He ended the call, then he remembered, no wonder Arnold had been touching his left arm these past few days. It seemed he had taken the Spellscroll off his neck and hidden it on his arm.
Richard was so wary of him. Since that was the case, he'd go after Arnold's.
So when Arnold came back that evening, Enrique pretended to trip and spilled the water he was holding all over Arnold's clothes.
Arnold had to go change. But before he could put on clean clothes, Enrique burst into the room.
Then, while Arnold was distracted, Enrique grabbed the Spellscroll tied to his arm, broke the string, and ran off with it.
"Arnold, I'm borrowing your Spellscroll," he shouted.
By the time Arnold realized what had happened, Enrique had not only run out of his bedroom. He also heard the front door open and close. Enrique had run off.
Arnold wanted to curse! He regretted not going to stay in a hotel these past few days. Even though this was his property, he could have avoided trouble by staying away! What a miscalculation.
