Chapter 323 So Elizabeth Is Still the Most Reliable
Sitting in the car on the way back, Elizabeth turned to Zachary and asked, "Hey, Zachary, do you think the Divination Association's gonna come down hard on Brenda after they finish their investigation?"
Zachary glanced over at her and shrugged. "Hard to say," he replied. "She's not a diviner herself, so she might not get hit too hard. It really depends on if they can track down the master diviner who helped her. That person? They're definitely in for it."
Elizabeth grinned and asked, "Think they'll find the person behind her?"
Zachary also asked, "Do you?"
Elizabeth mused, "There are two ways this could go. If someone wants to protect Brenda, they'll probably find some random person to take the fall."
That way, they could shift the blame and get Brenda off the hook.
"But if they decide to throw Brenda under the bus, then they probably won't find anyone," added Elizabeth.
In that case, Brenda would have to take all the heat and might end up in jail.
She looked at him and asked, "So, which do you think it'll be?"
Trying to use this whole mess to completely expose Brenda's real backer was a long shot, but it was worth a try.
Zachary said, "The first scenario seems more likely. I mean, Brenda's Generational Blessings aren't completely cut off. Her destiny is kinda weird, with too many people tied to her."
He gave her a meaningful look and added, "If she were to be completely ruined, it might not be good for you."
Elizabeth got what he was hinting at. She continued, "Because our Generational Blessings are inversely related? So, I need to keep weakening hers for it to benefit me? Is that the only way to break the curse between us?"
'Is he giving me a hint? Or trying to mislead me?' she wondered.
Elizabeth felt it was more like the former. She had already suspected this.
Brenda's importance to her backer may have exceeded that of a medium like Percy. To bring her down, they chipped away at her Generational Blessings until they were weak enough to break their connection.
After this, if Enrique asked Zachary to dispel it forcefully, Brenda's Generational Blessings could have been halved by the backlash, making the rest easier to handle.
Zachary smiled and said, "You're pretty sharp."
He looked out the window, seeming detached from it all. Then he added, "If you want to break it, just follow your gut."
Elizabeth gave him a long look. "Thanks for the tip, Zachary."
Zachary chuckled, "No need to test me. I have nothing to do with Brenda and don't care about her."
Then he turned to her with a deep look and a meaningful smile. "I'm much more interested in you."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow and smiled back. "Oh really? What a coincidence, I'm quite interested in you too." Zachary could definitely be the key to breaking her predicament.
They dropped the topic and started chatting casually.
Elizabeth began asking him about some aspects of diviner training she still didn't get. Zachary didn't play dumb and answered all her questions. It gave Elizabeth a lot more insight, so she kept asking for guidance. Whether Zachary was good or bad, friend or foe, she decided to learn as much as she could from him first.
Bishop asked Samantha to look after Enrique. Then he took Edward to the Divination Association to file a complaint.
The person in charge at the Divination Association promised Bishop they'd look into it. They also took Brenda away for questioning.
Bishop started laying it on thick about how miserable Enrique was, practically begging the person in charge to find two master diviners to help him out. He made sure to stress that this whole mess involved master diviners and some nasty sorcery, so the Divination Association couldn't just brush it off.
The person in charge had no choice but to call in two of the more powerful master diviners from the association to head to the hospital with Bishop.
At the hospital.
Bishop saw Enrique's face was swollen on one side, and he was lying there, groaning in pain. "What happened?" he asked.
Samantha sighed, "He's really unlucky. The bed he was on suddenly broke and collapsed. His face hit the cabinet hard, and now it's all swollen. The anesthesia wore off, and with all the recent movement, he's in a lot of pain."
She pointed to Enrique's leg and continued, "And for some reason, his leg looks like it's been bitten by bugs. There are a lot of big bumps, and he says they're super itchy. He can't scratch them himself, so he's been asking Kevin to help."
Kevin was sitting by the bed, using a scratching tool to help Enrique out.
When Enrique saw Bishop come in, it was like he saw a lifeline. With a tearful voice, he said, "Grandpa, how did it go at the Divination Association? I'm about to lose it."
After the anesthesia wore off, his upper body felt like it was being torn apart. The pain eased a bit with medication, but then he rolled off the bed due to a malfunction, plunging him back into agony.
His legs developed sores that were painfully itchy, and he couldn't even scratch them. If this kept up, he was sure he'd go mad. His resentment towards Brenda had never been this intense—he hated her more than ever.
Bishop felt no remorse for Enrique; it was all his own doing. As long as Enrique's life wasn't in danger, a little suffering might actually be a good thing. Perhaps it would teach him not to be so foolish in the future.
He turned to the two invited diviners and said, "Please, help Enrique."
Both were elderly men with graying hair, one in a robe and the other in black.
The robed master looked at Enrique and frowned. "His Generational Blessings are too chaotic; a lot has been siphoned off. No wonder he's so unlucky."
The master in black also took a look and said, "It seems the person who got his Generational Blessings is closely related to him. He probably gave them willingly, so it can't be undone. At least, I can't undo it."
The robed master added, "In his situation, I'm also powerless. To forcibly resolve it, only the highest-level masters can do it. In our entire Divination Association, probably only the president, vice president, and Zachary can do it. The president is in seclusion and won't come out anytime soon. And the vice president is out on business and it's unclear when he'll return."
He asked Bishop, "Do you know Zachary? You'll have to ask him for help."
Bishop said helplessly, "Zachary said he's busy and can only help after some time."
No wonder he was so hard to reach; it turned out Zachary was a big deal in the Divination Association. The robed master wasn't surprised and emphasized, "Zachary is aloof and does what he wants. The fact that he agreed to help is already pretty good. Normally, he wouldn't easily lend a hand."
Bishop had already noticed Zachary's aloofness, showing no interest in associating with them.
"Zachary probably agreed to help because of Elizabeth." He looked at Enrique and said, "So Elizabeth is still the most reliable."
Their family never interfered with the children's affairs, and Bishop and his wife abided by that tradition. Never had it crossed his mind that the Paul couple along with their grandchildren, would treat Elizabeth so harshly. Otherwise, they would have stepped in long ago.
But by the time they found out, it was too late. There was no way to make amends.
