Chapter 214 I'm Sorry

Enrique responded helplessly, "Mom, stop making a scene, or you'll faint again."

Enrique thought, 'Mom used to be a normal wealthy lady, but now she acts like a shrew.'

Hearing his words, Betty got even angrier. "You're the one making a scene," she shot back.

Being accused of "making a scene" by Enrique made Betty feel particularly upset. She couldn't help but wonder if Elizabeth had been treated the same way before.

Clearly, Elizabeth was not making a scene yet being scolded as such by her family.

Then Betty used all her strength to smash the phone in her hand onto the ground.

She snapped, "For the next two days, you stay in my hospital room and don't go anywhere."

She thought, 'I'm sick, and Enrique is still thinking about sneaking off to take care of Brenda. He really has no conscience!'

At this moment, Betty deeply regretted adopting Brenda in the first place. The decision had turned her son into someone she barely recognized, someone without a conscience.

Enrique saw the phone on the ground with its screen shattered. He picked it up and looked at it; sure enough, it was blacked out. "What did I do to deserve this?" he muttered under his breath, glaring at the broken phone.

He was about to retort but was immediately stopped by Kevin. "Enrique, you need to calm down," he persuaded, his voice a mix of alarm and caution. "If you say anything more and make Mom sicker, what will we do?"

Arnold also said with a stern face, "Enrique, stop making a scene. All you do is upset Mom."

Enrique pointed at himself, asking in disbelief, "I'm making a scene? Me?"

Arnold said matter-of-factly, "Of course, if it's not you, then who? Can you just settle down? Do you have to make everyone unhappy to be satisfied?"

Enrique fell silent. Listening to these words, he felt a sense of familiarity.

Then he realized and blurted out, "Are you using the same words you used to scold Elizabeth on me now? Have you all gone mad?" He was taken aback by his own revelation.

Arnold was also stunned, thinking, 'Have I really said that to Elizabeth before? Right, I have,. Multiple times.'

'But it seemed Elizabeth never did anything truly infuriating. She has certainly never made Mom so angry that Mom ended up in the hospital. Why did we always accuse Elizabeth of making a scene?'

Arnold suddenly asked, "Enrique, do you feel really upset when we accuse you of making a scene and tell you to stop causing trouble?"

Enrique rolled his eyes at him and shot back, "Isn't that obvious? How about you try it?"

Kevin chimed in from the side, "But you used to accuse Elizabeth of the same thing. And she never did anything, let alone make Mom this angry."

Enrique paused and retorted, "As if you guys never accused her of the same thing."

Kevin showed a bit of guilt on his face. "Yeah, we all treated her that way. No wonder she doesn't want to forgive us," he muttered.

Realization hit them hard. They hadn't considered this before, but now it was painfully clear. They thought, 'Was Elizabeth just as upset and hurt when we accused her unjustly?' The silence among them grew heavy with the weight of hindsight.

Kevin sighed, "It's true what they say. You only feel the pain when it happens to you."

They had really hurt Elizabeth before. Otherwise, she used to be so soft-hearted and cared for them in every way.

Arnold sighed, "Sometimes, you only realize the value of something once it's gone."

Betty's tears, which she had tried so hard to hold back, began to flow once more. She truly understood the sting of being told such things by loved ones— it was painful, frustrating, and infuriating.

Especially considering how much worse her sons had been in the past. It was no wonder Elizabeth avoided the hospital and seemed to be enjoying herself elsewhere.

Betty asked, "What will it take for Elizabeth to move on from the past?"

She genuinely wanted to make amends with Elizabeth, hoping for her to return and offer the care and companionship she once had. Betty promised that she would reciprocate and even offer more if only Elizabeth would come back.

The brothers exchanged uncertain glances.

"Honestly, we don't know!" they replied in unison. If they had known how to fix things, they would have already done it.

Suddenly, a silence fell over the room as the mother and her three children found themselves at a loss for words, unwilling to continue the conversation.

Enrique, though not as deeply affected as the others, regretted his past judgments of Elizabeth. He was also worried about Brenda, who was alone.

He didn't dare leave; the thought of what might happen to Betty in his absence was too troubling. Not only would his own situation worsen, but Betty's frustration might also be redirected at Brenda.

Kevin, thinking of a way to help, took out his phone and sent a message directly to Elizabeth. Arnold, sitting next to him, noticed and decided to do the same.

On the other side of the ocean, Elizabeth was enjoying a drink and chatting with Natalie while Raymond and others played guitar and sang. Her phone, provided by the show, buzzed twice with notifications.

Picking it up, she saw messages from Kevin and Arnold, both with the same content:

Kevin: [I'm sorry!]

Arnold: [I'm sorry!]

Elizabeth frowned in confusion, thinking, 'What is up with these two?'

She chose not to reply, dismissing the notifications, and returned to enjoying the music and laughter with her friends.

The Clark family's actions no longer had any impact on Elizabeth's mood.

Seeing Elizabeth's radiant smile, Natalie couldn't help but think how beautiful she looked. Natalie snapped a couple of photos and, with Elizabeth's permission, shared them in the group chat.

As Eugene sipped his drink in the bar, his heart ached. It had been ages since he'd seen Elizabeth smile so brightly. It was clear now that she hadn't been happy in the past. He regretted it deeply.

Kevin and Arnold were also feeling the sting. They had never seen Elizabeth smile like that while they were with the Clark family. They didn't get a response, which wasn't surprising. They just wanted to say they were sorry, regardless of whether she would accept it.

After sending the photos, Natalie noticed that Raymond, Gilbert, and Nancy were still singing, while Ronald and Marlon were busy grilling. It was a rare moment of solitude with Elizabeth, and she didn't want to miss it.

She stood up and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Jotting down a few words, she slid the note across the table to Elizabeth.
