Chapter 374 Elizabeth Takes the Initiative to Start the Battle

Ryan had saved Elizabeth's number in his phone last time, he was a bit surprised when he saw her calling.

"Elizabeth?" he answered.

"Yeah, it's me. Ryan, got a minute? I need to talk to you about something important," Elizabeth said.

Ryan grinned, "Sure, I've got time. What's up?"

Elizabeth was pretty important to the higher-ups, so even if he didn't have time, he'd make time.

"Do you know about Darlene's suicide?" Elizabeth asked straight out.

Ryan was confused. "Darlene's suicide? That's not really our department's thing, so I'm not too sure."

Elizabeth continued, "Well, I need to report it. Someone at my studio used to be close to Darlene. She sent me pictures of Darlene's death, and it doesn't look like a suicide. It seems like someone drained her Generational Blessings and life force. I want you to investigate what really happened."

Ryan's smile faded a bit. "Drained her Generational Blessings and life force? Are you sure?" This was definitely something their department would handle.

Elizabeth confirmed, "I'm sure. The autopsy said that poisoning caused her aging and death, but the diviner could tell it was an evil sorcerer. Logically, your department should have investigated after Darlene's suicide, but nothing happened yet."

She added, "Could someone in your department be colluding with the sorcerer?"

Darlene's post-suicide appearance was odd. Normally, it should've caught the attention of the special department, but it didn't. According to Nicole, after the autopsy ruled out homicide, they let The Spellscroll Family take the body for burial. Darlene hadn't been cremated yet, so the special department could still step in. That was why Elizabeth called Ryan.

Sensing the suspicion in Elizabeth's voice, Ryan said, "I really didn't know about this. I'll ask around right now. If no one's looked into it, I'll apply to investigate."

Elizabeth smiled. "Okay, I trust you."

Then she got serious as she continued, "But let me be clear; if your department tries to cover for the sorcerer, I'll file a complaint. If that doesn't work, I'll post my suspicions on Facebook. If things blow up, don't blame me."

Ethan killed Darlene and still wanted to dodge responsibility. No way. She knew the investigation might not directly implicate Ethan, but she wanted him to lose an important subordinate and weaken his influence. Once his subordinate was exposed, she could zero in on the target.

Ryan was both amused and a bit annoyed. "Alright, I'll get a team to investigate right now."

So, Elizabeth had called him for this. Should he be grateful for her trust? He could tell she was serious. If he didn't handle this well, she might actually go on Facebook and stir things up.

Even though he didn't really follow the entertainment industry, Ryan knew Elizabeth was a big deal. She was one of the most beloved celebrities, especially after that live reality show shot her to stardom. Even after the show ended, her popularity stayed sky-high. If she started questioning them, she'd definitely get a lot of people to doubt the department. That could spell trouble for them.

Elizabeth said, "Thanks for handling this."

Though the special department had ways to hide their true intentions, she could tell Ryan was a straight shooter. Trusting him with this seemed like a good move.

While Ryan dug into Darlene's death, Elizabeth started returning phone calls and messages. She even got a call from the director's assistant of the TV series, saying Brenda's reputation had tanked so badly that they were thinking about recasting the lead role. Elizabeth said she understood, but she was sure Brenda would bounce back once she got out of the divination society in half a month.

Elizabeth felt Darlene's death was somehow tied to Brenda's recovery. Once Brenda cleared things up, whether people believed her or not, Ethan would make sure Brenda stayed in the lead role. It was a good chance to compete with Elizabeth.

Brenda was the lead actress, and Elizabeth was the second lead. If Brenda did well and outshined her when the show aired, Brenda could snag some of her Generational Blessings, and Ethan would benefit too.

Elizabeth had just talked to Shirley, who said a lot of brands working with Brenda were ready to drop her. This could mean Brenda might get blacklisted from the entertainment industry, but Elizabeth guessed the Divination Association would make an announcement soon.

Sure enough, the next morning, the Divination Association put out a statement blaming everything on Alfonso, just as they had told Paul. They also said Brenda was a victim, caught in Alfonso's spell. They'd lift her curse but give her a half-month penalty.

The announcement blew up. A lot of people bought it, thinking Brenda did all those awful things because she was cursed. But there were plenty of skeptics too.

From what people saw on the reality show, Brenda didn't seem like someone under a spell. Especially Elizabeth and Raymond's fans—they weren't buying it at all. But the Divination Association stuck to their story.

Elizabeth thought for a bit, then submitted her resignation to the Divination Association's internal network for diviners. After that, she posted on Facebook.

Elizabeth: [This is really disgusting. From today, I am quitting the Divination Association.]

She included a screenshot of her resignation. She was curious to see what Ethan would do now. After leveling up, she decided to follow her own path, refusing to put up with Ethan any longer and planning to force him out.
