Chapter 275 The Biggest Mistake You Ever Made
Richard and Arnold, watching the livestream together at home, looked like they just found out they had to pay double taxes.Arnold couldn't hold back and blurted out, "Enrique, you moron, what the hell are you doing?"
They had just caught a break from all the online hate. Now, thanks to Enrique's big mouth, they were back in the crosshairs of the internet trolls.
Arnold pulled up Facebook and watched their follower count nosedive. His latest post was getting roasted with insults and sarcasm. He felt like jumping into the livestream and throttling Enrique. He groaned, "We messed up before, sure. But Enrique pulling this crap? He's just making Elizabeth hate us even more."
They had just started patching things up with Elizabeth by buying Spellscrolls and gemstone amulets. Now, Enrique had trashed all their efforts.
Richard fumed. "No wonder Elizabeth wouldn't sell him Spellscrolls and gemstone amulets; he doesn't deserve them. Enrique is such a dumbass! I shouldn't have let him on the last episode of the show. He's an idiot; getting smacked down by Elizabeth is one thing, but dragging us into it too?"
Richard also wanted to storm the scene and beat Enrique senseless. This was going to wreck his job prospects! Because of what he did to Elizabeth and those photos of him hugging Brenda, he, as a manager, was getting roasted in the headlines. Things were just starting to cool down, and he was planning to get back to work next month. But Enrique had ruined everything.
Betty had been sitting in the living room, watching the livestream with them. Now she was so mad she felt dizzy. She yelled, "Enrique, you bastard, what the hell are you doing!"
If Enrique hadn't gone looking for trouble, Elizabeth wouldn't have exposed the recording.
Betty was furious and a bit resentful. She said, "I never thought Elizabeth would actually record our conversation that day. How could she do that?"
With the recording out there, the Clark family was going to be the laughingstock of the aristocratic circle.
Betty was shaking with anger as she saw the flood of insults aimed at her. She was born into a wealthy family and, after marrying into the Clark family, had always been a glamorous socialite. This was the first time she had been insulted so disgracefully.
She could imagine how those socialites who didn't get along with her would mock her, and how those who were friendly with her would view her.
Betty's feelings toward her biological daughter, Elizabeth, were getting more complicated. On one hand, she knew they had wronged Elizabeth before. On the other hand, Elizabeth publicly exposed the recording during the livestream, airing the Clark family's dirty laundry. She couldn't help but feel a bit angry at Elizabeth.
Richard snorted, "She's already cut ties with us. Why would she care about these things?" Betty was just fooling herself.
From what he knew of Elizabeth, she had always planned to release the recording. She was just waiting for the perfect moment.
Elizabeth was definitely waiting for Enrique to screw up. And sure enough, Enrique gave Elizabeth the chance to drop the bomb.
Richard had to admit, Elizabeth was sharp and ruthless. This was the last episode of the show, with over ten million people watching. And since the show hadn't officially started, their phones hadn't been taken away yet.
Elizabeth seized the moment to play the recording in front of a national audience, making sure everyone knew how they had wronged her. Back when he and his brothers were ganging up on Elizabeth, it didn't feel like bullying.
But now, after hearing the recording, Richard felt super embarrassed and guilty. Brenda had played them all like a fiddle. He sighed, "Listening to that recording now, I realize how dumb we all were. Even Loren wasn't any smarter."
Arnold sighed too, "Exactly. Especially Enrique and me; we were total idiots. Brenda egged us on, and we went after Elizabeth for her. Enrique is even dumber, going live to insult Elizabeth."
Arnold glanced at Brenda on the livestream, pretending to be all pitiful with her head down. He added sarcastically, "Look at him, saying all that crap. Not only did it not make Brenda happy, but she probably resents him now. Just like last time, we got scolded, and as soon as things went south, Brenda played the innocent card. This time, Enrique's mess is all on him. Brenda, once again, is the innocent one dragged into it."
He couldn't help but ask, "How blind were we to not see through this?"
Richard sneered, "Who would've thought that the Brenda we spoiled for over a decade was playing mind games with us, using us. Because we didn't guard against her, we kept getting set up."
Arnold agreed, "Yeah, who would've thought she was so selfish."
Every time, Brenda would egg them on, and they would step up. If they succeeded, she enjoyed the benefits. If things went wrong, it was their fault, and she was blameless in the background.
He asked, "Do you think Enrique will see through Brenda this time on the show?"
As soon as the livestream started, Enrique offended Elizabeth because of Brenda and got roasted in the headlines, losing tons of fans. Richard thought for a moment and remarked, "Even if Enrique doesn't cause trouble, Brenda will. And when that happens, Enrique will definitely get hurt. So this time, he should be able to see Brenda's true colors."
Arnold nodded. "If he still can't see it, then he's hopeless and deserves his bad luck."
Richard added, "Whether he's hopeless or not, he deserves his bad luck. Enrique is not only a jerk but also drags us down." Because of Enrique, his return to work had to be postponed again.
Arnold was about to speak when his phone rang. After answering, he couldn't help but curse, "Enrique and Brenda are both disasters."
Richard asked, "What happened?"
Arnold replied, "The manager just called and said my new song release is postponed. The concert I was prepping for is also postponed, and next week's signing event is straight-up canceled."
Enrique got roasted in the headlines, and they were dragged down with him.
Richard held his head and sighed deeply, "We are really unlucky to have a brother like Enrique."
Then he looked up at Betty, whose face was ashen. He remarked, "Mom, adopting Brenda was the biggest mistake you ever made. Look at the mess now. I'm too embarrassed to even show my face outside."
