Chapter 360 He Was So Disgusted, Okay?
Gregory rushed into the courtyard of one of the top brass of the Divination Society, skidding to a stop at the main entrance of the big house.
"Teacher, I'm here," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
A raspy voice called from inside, "Come in!"
Gregory's heart skipped a beat. That voice, it was like a ghost from the past, one he hadn't heard in over twenty years. His face went pale as he stepped inside, finding a man sitting cross-legged, looking way older than he remembered. The guy who used to look like he was in his twenties now seemed like he was pushing sixty.
The man opened his eyes, cold and stern. "What's going on with Brenda?"
Gregory dropped to his knees. "Teacher, Brenda brought this on herself."
He spilled everything—how Brenda got hit with some nasty sorcery, her condition all over the place, and the recent magical duel that went sideways.
The old man frowned. "Are you sure it was Elizabeth?"
Gregory nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure it was her voice. But is she really that strong?"
The old man looked skeptical. "Could someone else have stepped in? Did you sense anyone else during the duel?" he asked.
Gregory shook his head. "No, just one presence."
The old man insisted, "There had to be a second person. They were just too powerful for you to notice. Elizabeth alone couldn't have fought you and broken the curse that fast."
Gregory agreed, "Yeah, I think so too."
He paused, then pointed to the sky. "Could it have been Zachary? He did say during the last livestream that he could break Enrique's curse."
If Zachary had stepped in, it would explain a lot.
The old man snorted. "Useless, don't poke your nose in!" He also suspected Zachary's involvement. If that was the case, things were about to get complicated.
Gregory's heart pounded, and he started to shake. "Teacher, I'm sorry." He knew if the old man got mad and ditched him, he'd be in deep trouble.
The old man suddenly switched gears. "How's Darlene?"
Gregory replied, "She got hit by the curse meant for Elizabeth, plus the backlash from the Generational Blessings. She's barely hanging on."
'Darlene was an idiot too,' the old man thought. After a moment, he said, "Get Darlene to the Divination Association within three days. When she gets here, bring her and Brenda to see me."
He added, "Brenda is crucial. Stay close to her. If anything happens to her again, don't bother coming back."
Gregory let out a sigh of relief. "Yes, Teacher!"
After Gregory left, the old man grew more uneasy. He needed to know if it was Elizabeth who broke the curse or if Zachary had a hand in it. So, he picked up his phone and shot a message to Amy.
In another room, Brenda, who had been writhing on the ground, felt like she came back to life once the tearing sensation disappeared. The pain was far worse than usual, much more torturous. More importantly, she felt like she had lost about a third of something crucial.
She struggled to stand up, her whole body weak, her legs feeling like they were stepping on cotton, ready to collapse at any moment. But she still wobbled into the bathroom. Seeing herself in the mirror, Brenda's face changed dramatically, and she couldn't help but scream, "Ahhh!"
She couldn't believe that the old woman in the mirror was herself.
Upon his return, Gregory noticed his juniors casting meaningful glances his way. There was a hint of ambiguity, as if he had done something that left them speechless. He was baffled. When he looked over, they averted their eyes.
Then, a few screams came from his room. Those people looked at him again with indescribable expressions, leading him to a silent realization. They thought he had some unspeakable relationship with Brenda.
Gregory cursed inwardly, 'Why would I ever be interested in someone as foolish as Brenda? I am utterly disgusted.'
He then coldly scanned the onlookers. "Don't you all have anything better to do?"
Everyone was quite afraid of Gregory and immediately dispersed. They muttered to themselves, "Gregory's taste is really..."
Gregory walked back to his room. Hearing Brenda still screaming, he irritably said, "Shut up." He had already been misunderstood, and if this continued, who knew what rumors would spread about him.
Brenda, hearing Gregory's words, forced herself to walk out. She looked at Gregory with tearful eyes, and when he approached, she collapsed into his arms.
She hugged him as she said, "Gregory, what should I do? You have to help me!"
Gregory was already startled by Brenda's old and ugly appearance. Then she hugged him and cried, which disgusted him even more.
He pulled Brenda out of his arms and pushed her to the ground, saying with disdain, "Don't cling to me like that."
Brenda fell heavily to the ground, momentarily stunned. After all, this trick had never failed before. She cursed Gregory in her mind again.
But she still needed his help, so she pitifully said, "Gregory, you promised Samuel you would take good care of me."
She then tugged at his pant leg as she continued, "I've become like this; you have to help me."
Gregory took two steps back. "I've already spoken to my teacher. In a few days, I'll take you to see him. He will help you then."
Brenda had never known about Gregory's teacher. He warned her, "But for the next few days, don't cause any more trouble, or no one will be able to save you."
The misunderstanding from his juniors reminded him. In the future, he should stay away from Brenda unless necessary, or being entangled with her would lead to no good.
Brenda was secretly pleased; it seemed he wasn't entirely indifferent to her. He was just pretending.
She obediently nodded. "Okay, I won't go out for the next few days."
Looking so ugly, how could she possibly go out?
