Chapter 394 We Have Evidence

The Anderson family felt a wave of gratitude toward Elizabeth. Even though the outcome was still up in the air, she was genuinely trying to help, and her confidence gave them hope. Elizabeth wasn't one to exaggerate her skills.

Ruth turned to Elizabeth, looking worried. "Elizabeth, when can we get rid of the poison bug? The longer it stays in Zephyr's brain, the more unpredictable things get."

Elizabeth replied, "Zachary can't leave Aevum City for some special reasons, so Zephyr and I need to go there. I also need some time to prepare to make sure everything goes smoothly. Let's plan to go in about a month."

She added, "Since Brenda got Mrs. Clark to do this, we should use this time to figure out what they're up to. If it happened once, it could happen again. Next time, it might be someone else, like Soren."

Elizabeth wasn't being overly cautious; they needed to understand the motive to prevent future harm.

Leon agreed, his eyes narrowing with bottled anger. "That's true. We need to find out what they want." Betty's betrayal stung deeply, and he vowed not to show mercy if given the chance. Betty no longer existed to him.

Ruth was very worried about Zephyr. She asked, "Will waiting a month put Zephyr in any more danger?"

Elizabeth gave a reassuring smile. "I'll make a special incense for Zephyr to wear, which can suppress the poison bug in his body. During this time, it won't be able to absorb his energy. But the effect will only last about a month, so I suggest going to Aevum City next month."

Although they wanted to lure out the person harming Zephyr, Zephyr's health was more important. She wouldn't use his body as bait.

Hearing this, Ruth and the others breathed a sigh of relief. "Then we can rest easy," Ruth said. "Elizabeth, if you need us to prepare anything, just let us know."

Elizabeth nodded. "Thank you. And, please, don't tell anyone, even other members of the Anderson family that Zachary is involved. It might tip off whoever's behind this. Act as if we're still struggling to resolve the issue. Keep inviting the fortune-teller to treat Zephyr. When Brenda realizes we can't solve it, she'll use Mrs. Clark to find that person to remove the bug. That way, we can uncover their true intentions."

Leon appreciated the thorough plan. He responded, "Agreed, we won't say a word."

Ruth was even more determined. She wanted the elder Andersons to see Betty's selfishness for themselves. After being disappointed in Betty, they wouldn't care about her anymore. Otherwise, if they knew Elizabeth could solve the problem, they might not grasp the seriousness. But thinking it couldn't be solved would make them take it seriously. Although Zephyr didn't do much, he was very loved by the elderly. She didn't believe they would ignore Zephyr for Betty.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Ruth went to open it, still with tears on her face. Looking worried, she said to the visitors, "Mom and Dad, you're here."

Seeing Ruth's distressed state, Leon's mother, Maria Diaz, rushed in, concerned. "How is Zephyr? Don't scare us!" There were several capable grandchildren in the family, but their favorite was still Zephyr, who knew how to make them happy. So Maria's panic was evident.

Ruth resumed her tearful demeanor. "The situation isn't good." She let them in and explained what Elizabeth had shared. Their reactions ranged from shock to disbelief.

Maria looked at Elizabeth and asked with some doubt, "Elizabeth, did Betty really do this? She shouldn't be capable of such a thing." At the same time, she noticed that Elizabeth hadn't greeted them since they came in. She was worried that Elizabeth might be saying this out of dislike for Betty.

Linda Romero, Leon's sister-in-law, chimed in, "Mom, what's there to ask? I think she's just making it up. How could Betty do such a thing? Poison bugs? That's just TV nonsense. We should rely on science and medicine." Her disdain was clear; she thought Elizabeth was trying to slander Betty.

Zephyr bristled at Linda's words. "Elizabeth is here at our request, and I trust her judgment."

Linda scoffed, "You're not reliable yourself. What you believe doesn't hold much weight."

Karen Anderson, Leon's youngest sister, standing behind, couldn't help but say, "Linda, you're being too quick to judge. Elizabeth wouldn't make this up." She knew Betty well enough to believe Betty could do such a thing.

Linda shot back, "You've never gotten along with Betty, so you'd naturally take this chance to see her fall."

Linda thought, 'Karen insisted on marrying a poor man and has become more narrow-minded over the years.'

Karen's anger flared. She retorted, "I'm not being petty. You're the one who's harsh."

Karen thought, 'Linda's self-righteousness, much like Betty's, struck a nerve.'

Linda's face darkened, ready to retort, but Zephyr spoke first. "Aunt Linda, if you don't know, don't jump to conclusions. Elizabeth isn't making this up; we have evidence."

Leon's father, Phineas Anderson, glanced between them, sensing the divided loyalties. If Zephyr and his family were this certain, it bore investigation. "What evidence?" He looked at Elizabeth kindly. "Elizabeth, can you show us the evidence?" Without seeing it himself, he couldn't believe that his beloved Betty would do something so heartless.

Elizabeth replied calmly, "Of course, Mr. Anderson. Here's the proof that connects Mrs. Clark and Brenda to the poison bug."Without it, the Anderson family wouldn't believe it. Once they saw the evidence, Betty and Brenda wouldn't escape. Since they had tricked her, they should be prepared for her retaliation.
