Chapter 270 Right on Cue
Arnold got swapped out for Enrique, while Natalie and Marlon stuck around as temps. Elbert stepped in for Gilbert. Arthur was still on the fence about adding more temps, probably waiting to see how the show panned out.
This time, the director's crew snagged plane tickets for everyone, letting them fly solo to Seraphim Heights.
Elizabeth brought Elbert, and Raymond brought Marlon. Then Nancy and Ronald jumped in. The six of them flew together.
Eugene, Kevin, and Natalie took separate flights.
Enrique and Brenda flew together. Brenda's injuries had healed up, and even the scar on her head was barely noticeable.
Brenda and Enrique were the first to hit the meeting spot in Seraphim Heights, followed by Eugene and Kevin.
As soon as Brenda spotted Eugene, she went up to him. "Eugene, you're here!"
But Eugene, with a stone-cold face, just walked right past her, not even giving her a nod. He stood off to the side, clearly wanting to keep his distance.
Brenda's face showed a bit of hurt, and she felt super awkward. She cursed under her breath, 'Eugene's turning into a real jerk. And Amy's useless; she can't even handle Eugene now.'
Brenda then turned to Kevin. "Kevin, why didn't you come with us?"
Kevin thought, 'No way, I'm too scared.' He gave a weak smile. "I flew from a different place, so I didn't plan to meet up." Then he made up an excuse to chat with Eugene and walked over to him.
Brenda felt even more bummed out. She just couldn't get why Kevin was acting this way.
She whispered to Enrique, "Enrique, is Kevin still mad at us? I think he's purposely keeping his distance. But we're family. We shouldn't be split up."
When it came time to form teams later, Brenda still needed Kevin. Maybe she could find a way to borrow the Generational Blessings from him.
Enrique frowned. "His temper's getting worse. We're siblings; we shouldn't be split up."
Brenda felt a bit better. "Yeah, I think so too."
While they were chatting, the other six showed up.
A flash of jealousy crossed Brenda's face when she saw Elizabeth and Raymond laughing and chatting as they walked over.
Brenda had tried so hard to get close to Raymond, but he was always cold to her. Instead, he was always hanging around Elizabeth, taking care of her.
She thought Raymond was blind and had terrible taste. And Nancy and the others were just opportunistic jerks. If she had been the popular one in the last two shows, they'd probably be all over her instead of Elizabeth.
As the group got closer, the live broadcast kicked off.
As soon as the camera went live, Brenda stepped forward with a big smile to greet Elizabeth and the others.
Elizabeth ignored Brenda and walked straight ahead. They had already fallen out, so no need to fake it in the last episode.
Raymond was especially grossed out by Brenda and ignored her too.
The others hadn't fallen out with Brenda, but they just gave her a slight nod as a greeting.
Enrique had been on edge lately. He'd asked Richard if he could buy a Spellscroll from Elizabeth, but Richard said she flat-out refused. What was up with that? She sold Spellscrolls to the other brothers but not him. Why was she treating him differently? He hated to admit it, but he was jealous.
Seeing Brenda get the cold shoulder from Elizabeth and Raymond just set Enrique off. Nancy and the others were acting all high and mighty too, which only made him madder. Without thinking, he stormed over and frowned at Elizabeth. "Brenda just said hi to you," he blurted out.
Kevin, nearby, thought Enrique was a real piece of work, stirring up trouble right as the live broadcast started. Just like Arnold! No, even more reckless than Arnold. As for stopping him, no way.
He still remembered Enrique snatching his Spellscroll, so letting Enrique get scolded felt like sweet revenge. It couldn't just be them taking the heat.
Eugene saw Enrique foolishly standing up for Brenda and thought Enrique was toast.
Richard and Arnold, watching the live broadcast, had a look of anticipation in their eyes.
Arnold felt a bit embarrassed watching the live camera. He'd been just as foolish in the last episode.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow at Enrique. "So what are you trying to say?" she asked.
Enrique emphasized, "Brenda greeted you, and you didn't respond? What happened to your manners?" Elizabeth's cold and arrogant attitude made him uncomfortable, so he spoke harshly.
Elizabeth sneered, "Brenda and I have already fallen out. She's being fake by greeting us. Who says we have to respond?"
Enrique said, "But everyone is participating in the same show. Isn't this bad?"
Elizabeth shot back, "Didn't you watch the last two episodes?"
Raymond chimed in, "Elizabeth has always treated Brenda this way, so get your facts straight before playing the good guy." Enrique standing up for Brenda against Elizabeth irked him further.
Hearing their words, Brenda tugged at Enrique's sleeve. "Enrique, let it go," she pleaded, knowing the more she said this, the less he would. Sure enough, Enrique's irritation only grew.
He snapped, "Elizabeth, don't go too far. You always take everything from Brenda at home and target her on the show. Brenda's adoption was Mom and Dad's decision. Why take it out on her? This show was supposed to be Brenda's. But in the end, Brenda had to rely on Kevin to get a spot. In the last two episodes, you deliberately made her get scolded online and injured so badly she was hospitalized. Even after all that, you still won't let her go?"
He was venting all his pent-up frustration, not just for Brenda but also for his own unfair treatment by Elizabeth.
Kevin's face changed upon hearing this. He thought, 'Enrique is crazy, saying such hurtful things live.'
Richard and Arnold hadn't expected Enrique to be this foolish, recklessly widening the rift between the siblings.
Elizabeth didn't get angry; instead, a smile appeared on her lips. She had been waiting for Enrique to cause trouble.
After all, she had something important she hadn't revealed yet. Now, it was the last episode, and she had to take the opportunity to expose it live. And here Enrique came, right on cue.
