Chapter 131 Die From Madness
Brenda said she'd borrow a divination artifact from Amy, so the two divination masters left.
Paul asked his secretary to see them out.
Hubert had already gone, and Angela felt it was time to leave too.
She didn't know Brenda well and doubted she'd help her get a divination artifact, so she left to find her own solution.
Once everyone was gone, Paul sat quietly.
Brenda, in pain, called Amy.
With Paul there, she held back from badmouthing Elizabeth but mentioned Elizabeth had cursed her and she needed a divination artifact.
She asked Amy for an antique with good luck to counter the curse.
Amy agreed right away.
Seeing how close Brenda and Amy were, Paul frowned.
He remembered Elizabeth and Eugene used to date, and rumors said they broke up because Eugene got too close to Brenda.
Paul had business ties with Orlando and a decent relationship with Eugene, so he had supported Elizabeth and Eugene's relationship.
But their public breakup soured his view of Eugene.
Now, seeing Brenda and Amy so close, he was even more displeased.
Brenda had led his sons astray and stolen Elizabeth's boyfriend, which he couldn't accept.
If he wasn't planning to investigate Brenda and Dominic, he would've had Betty send Brenda away.
After all, she was an adult and could manage outside the Clark family.
Seeing his two wayward sons, Paul was furious.
"In a few days, I have a business trip abroad. You two are coming with me."
Arnold and Enrique were shocked. "Why do we have to go?"
They had no interest in the company or business.
Paul said coldly, "Just come when I tell you. No questions."
He then dismissed them. "I have work to do. You can go now."
He wanted to separate his sons from Brenda for a while.
Arnold and Enrique reluctantly nodded.
They helped Brenda up but kept their distance.
Brenda knew Paul was unhappy and felt uneasy too.
She smiled obediently, "Dad, you go ahead and work. We're leaving."
Paul didn't show his displeasure; he smiled gently. "Go ahead. If you need anything, come to me."
He didn't want Brenda to be wary of him.
Seeing his demeanor, Brenda sighed in relief. "Okay."
After everyone left, Paul called his secretary to investigate Brenda and Dominic.
Then he got back to work.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth turned off the surveillance video.
Rebecca sighed, "Paul is quite cunning."
He had just acted kind to Brenda and then immediately had her investigated.
His quick change was impressive.
Elizabeth smiled, "If he wasn't cunning, he wouldn't be the chairman of the Clark Group. And he's developed the Clark Group very well."
Paul was the shrewdest and most suspicious in the Clark family.
So Brenda would definitely be on his radar.
Rebecca asked curiously, "Do you think there's a connection between Brenda and those two divination masters?"
Elizabeth replied, "There has to be a connection."
Rebecca thought the three of them seemed shady.
Today's incident felt like Brenda was putting on a show with the two divination masters.
"Should we investigate their relationship too?"
Elizabeth shook her head. "No need. Paul already has someone on it. If we also investigate, it might tip them off. If they want to mess with me, they'll make more moves."
This situation was too risky, and she didn't want Rebecca getting involved.
She'd use her own methods to look into Brenda and the divination masters.
Rebecca nodded. "Alright."
She started downloading some documents.
"I know that PI. He sent over what he found."
Before the download finished, Rebecca's phone rang.
Seeing the caller, she was puzzled. "My mom's calling. This can't be good."
Elizabeth guessed, "She probably wants a divination artifact for Brenda."
Rebecca realized it too and found Amy's timing suspicious.
She put the call on speaker. "What's up? Why the sudden call?"
Amy didn't like Rebecca's tone but kept her cool.
"I'm your mom. Can't I check on you?"
Rebecca wasn't buying it. "So, you don't need anything? Just checking in?"
Amy was silent. How did she end up with a daughter like Rebecca?
Realizing the pretense wouldn't work, she got to the point. "I need a favor."
Rebecca sighed. "There it is. Just say what you need. No need for the fake concern."
Amy was angry but softened her tone. "We're mother and daughter. Do we have to be so distant?"
Rebecca yawned. "You know why we're distant. If you have something to say, say it. If not, I'm hanging up. I'm busy and don't have time for your act. Go find Percy and Eugene if you want to play games."
If it weren't important, Amy would've hung up.
She thought Rebecca was so heartless, nothing like a caring daughter.
Amy didn't beat around the bush. "I need to borrow an antique that brings good luck. I'll return it in half a month."
"I do have one," Rebecca said slowly, "but I won't lend it to you."
Amy's face changed. "Rebecca, don't be unreasonable. Do I need to get your father to talk to you?"
She knew she couldn't handle Rebecca, so she hinted at getting Orlando involved.
Rebecca wasn't scared. "Sure, let Dad come talk to me. I'll have a nice chat with Grandma and him. Maybe Grandma can invite you over for dinner."
Amy paused. "You... you really won't be satisfied until you've driven me mad, will you?"
Rebecca said cheerfully, "Don't worry, if you die from madness, I won't attend your funeral. Saves you the discomfort of seeing me and me the trouble of wasting time."
If it weren't for Orlando and Gary, Rebecca would've been harmed by Amy's family.
Now she was back and ready for payback.
Amy didn't expect Rebecca to curse her and was furious.
She was about to lash out, "You..."
But Rebecca hung up before she could finish.
This made Amy even angrier.
She immediately called Orlando to complain and hinted for him to ask Rebecca for the divination artifact.
