Chapter 455 The Truth Was Like This
Elizabeth took one look at Ethan and knew their previous scheme had worked. Her lips curved into a triumphant smile. "Of course, we were plotting against you," she said with a meaningful glint in her eyes. She then asked provocatively, "How does it feel to be outsmarted?"
Ethan's face turned almost green with anger. "Elizabeth, don't force me to hurt you," he threatened, though there was an air of desperation in his voice. Regret washed over him for not being more cautious earlier, allowing Elizabeth to uncover his machinations. She was relentless, constantly fixated on him.
"Then go ahead and do it! Stop just talking and not acting," she taunted, her stance defiant.
Ethan fell silent. He really wanted to strangle her, but he was still suffering from backlash, and his strength had diminished significantly. He was also afraid that if he went all out, Stanley would take advantage of the situation.
He turned to Stanley, "As we agreed before, let's team up to avenge Aaron."
Stanley nodded, "Alright, let's do it!" He produced a magical artifact, summoning an evil aura and launching it at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, you have to pay for Aaron's life!" he shouted.
The temperature in the entire restaurant suddenly dropped, causing Betty and Brenda to shiver. Betty was even more confused. How did this turn into a fight? And why did Ethan tell Stanley to team up against Elizabeth? Wasn't he supposed to be here to mediate between them?
Elizabeth snorted coldly and took out Rune stones. Last time in Aevum City, it was a blessing in disguise. Her evil aura artifact had directly upgraded after absorbing so much evil aura. So as soon as Stanley's evil aura approached, it was completely absorbed by the Rune stones.
Although Stanley was acting, he couldn't help but be shocked. It had only been two days, and Elizabeth seemed even stronger. Fortunately, he and Elizabeth were the real collaborators. Elizabeth had even asked him to put on a show for Betty to expose Ethan's true nature. Despite his reluctance, Stanley had agreed to team up against Ethan.
The restaurant became a battleground, with spells flying and energy crackling in the air. Ethan joined the fray, aiming his attacks at Elizabeth while ostensibly helping Stanley.
Defending herself, Elizabeth continued to taunt. "Ethan, I knew you were no good. You think I didn't know you're the father of Brenda, Natalie, and Percy? When I went missing and landed in human traffickers' hands, it was Piper, on your orders. Then you had Alfonso persuade the Clark Family to adopt Brenda in my place."
Ethan's face reflected genuine surprise. "How did you find out?" He hadn't expected Elizabeth to uncover so much. Only he and Piper knew about the abduction, and he was certain Piper hadn't revealed it. Realizing reconciliation was impossible, he dropped any pretense.
Elizabeth smirked, undeterred. "The memories you sealed have been restored." Achieving high-level diviner status had unlocked all her suppressed childhood memories. She remembered how Ethan had sealed those memories with a spell, leaving her amnesiac when Wayne rescued her. After regaining her childhood memories, she realized that Kevin had been lured away While she went after Kevin, Piper covered her mouth with a drugged cloth. Then Piper pretended to be her mother and took her away.
No wonder when Elizabeth went to the hospital last time, Piper's eyes were evasive when she saw Elizabeth. Piper had originally wanted to scold Natalie, but because of Elizabeth's arrival, she didn't and left quickly. Elizabeth had thought Piper was trying to act like a dignified lady, leaving so quickly. It turned out that Piper knew of her existence and left out of guilt.
Ethan snorted derisively, "Who told you to get in my way? Better to be used by me. But you had to dig your own grave. Fine, I'll grant your wish." He intensified his attacks, desperation tinging his moves.
Betty and Brenda overheard the entire conversation. Betty looked at the two in disbelief. So Elizabeth's disappearance back then wasn't an accident; it was orchestrated by Piper. And was Ethan Brenda's biological father? From Ethan's words, it seemed Elizabeth wasn't falsely accusing him; it was the truth.
Unable to contain her shock, she confronted Ethan. "You orchestrated all this? Why?"
Ethan didn't care about anything anymore. He just wanted to kill Elizabeth and take her Generational Blessings and lifespan. He snorted, "Of course. Who told Elizabeth to be born with such auspicious Generational Blessings? I needed them."
And such a fate couldn't be created through a C-section because it wasn't allowed. So he had to find another way to use Elizabeth and seize the Generational Blessings of the Clark Family and the Baker Family.
He could have used Brenda's status as an adopted daughter to seize the Clark Family's Generational Blessings. The Baker Family could also use Elizabeth because she was saved and adopted by Wayne. Coincidentally, she grew up with Eugene and became his childhood sweetheart.
The Baker Family's Generational Blessings were also part of his calculations. Originally, he had planned to have Brenda seduce Eugene and take Elizabeth's Generational Blessings. Once Elizabeth's Generational Blessings were almost depleted, he would get rid of her. Eugene would then be devastated by the loss of Elizabeth, becoming depressed and causing his Generational Blessings to plummet.
Ethan would then use Angela to take Rebecca's Generational Blessings. Finally, through Percy as a medium, he would take over the Baker Family.
If Elizabeth died, the Clark Family would feel regret and guilt for their choices that led to her death. Most importantly, if Elizabeth died, the Generational Blessings of the other Clark Family members would weaken. Brenda could then seize the Clark Family's Generational Blessings.
Who would have thought Brenda was so useless, and Elizabeth turned into a major threat? All his plans were ruined. Now that Elizabeth's memories had returned, she saw through all his schemes and revealed them.
That was why he admitted everything to Betty. Because he had no intention of sparing Betty. Once they teamed up to kill Elizabeth, he would kill Betty as well.
Betty's stunned silence broke. "So you've been lying to me all this time?"
Ethan, with cold indifference, replied, "Isn't that obvious?"
Elizabeth added, "He not only schemed and lied to you. Even when you were poisoned, it was Ethan who introduced that evil wizard to Amy, nudging her to target you. And you foolishly believed in him."
Betty staggered, the weight of the revelations crushing her. She looked at Ethan, seeking any sign of contradiction, but there was none. Everything Elizabeth said was true.
She was in a daze, muttering, "How could this be?" She had raised Brenda, the daughter of Ethan who kidnapped her biological daughter, like a princess. She had regarded Ethan, who had been scheming against her all along, as a good person. Under Brenda's instigation, she had pushed her own daughter Elizabeth further and further away.
The truth was like this. It was hard for her to accept, yet she had no choice but to accept it.
Betty was deeply shocked and slumped into a chair. She recalled everything she had done over the years and recently, her heart filled with regret and pain.
