Chapter 58 Couldn't Take It Anymore
After hearing Richard out, Eugene stayed quiet for a bit. "Alright, go ahead and spill the beans. Call my agent first and let her know I’m on board. She needs to be ready to work with you."
Between Elizabeth and Brenda, Eugene chose to back Brenda this time. He knew Elizabeth was tough and could handle anything. But Brenda? She was fragile and needed protection.
He added, "But just so you know, exposing our relationship will only grab attention for a little while. You still need to handle the PR and help Brenda fix her image."
Richard sighed in relief. "I just need some time to set up the PR. Don’t worry, I won’t let Brenda get trashed online."
He paused and then said, "You don’t need to feel bad about exposing the relationship to Elizabeth. Maybe she actually wants it out in the open, considering how much she cares about you."
Richard had no idea Elizabeth had already broken up with Eugene. Seeing her say on a live show that she’d cut ties with him, he just thought she was throwing a fit.
Eugene agreed to Richard’s plan not just to help Brenda but also for his own reasons. Once their relationship was out, he’d admit it on Facebook after the show. Elizabeth might not bring up the breakup again and might even get back with him. She never mentioned it, but he knew she didn’t want to keep their relationship a secret. Now that it was out, it could be seen as granting her wish, right?
He said, "Got it. Go ahead."
Richard smiled. "Thanks!"
Then he told Kevin not to let Brenda know about the online drama, worried she couldn’t handle it, and hung up.
Kevin found it even harder to sleep lying down. He suddenly said, "I really regret asking Elizabeth to help me with the whole destiny thing earlier today."
Eugene, now fully awake, remarked, "Regret serves no purpose."
Kevin sighed. "Honestly, your relationship getting out was just a matter of time. No use dwelling on it." He stared at the ceiling. "Eugene, do you think Elizabeth brought up those three rules on purpose during the live show?"
If she hadn't mentioned them, people might not have dug into their relationship.
Eugene, having known Elizabeth forever, knew she wasn't one to be easily pushed around. When she cared about someone, she gave it her all. But when she was done, she could be cold. She was smart and knew how to set traps. So yeah, she probably did it on purpose.
But to keep Elizabeth's image intact in Kevin's eyes, he said, "I don’t think she did it on purpose. You were pressing her with questions, so she had to say something. A lot of divination masters have those three rules. When this show's over, you can go back to Clifftonshireburg and ask around."
Kevin felt a bit better. "Glad it wasn't on purpose."
Neither of them could sleep after that, but they didn't talk anymore.
Meanwhile, Richard called Eugene's agent, Ashley White. She was initially against exposing the relationship. But Richard made it clear it was Eugene's decision, not a request for her opinion. Ashley messaged Eugene and got his confirmation. After some back-and-forth, Eugene stood his ground, and she reluctantly agreed. She was furious but worked with Richard's PR team. She sent Richard photos of Eugene holding Elizabeth, Elizabeth smiling and holding Eugene's arm, and a few from their school days. These were the photos Eugene had specifically told her to download.
Eugene planned to wait until the show ended, hoping that when Elizabeth saw the exposed photos, they’d bring back the good memories they once shared.
Richard then gathered some additional photos and had the team release them all at once. Soon, headlines like "Eugene's Relationship," "More Than Just Childhood Friends," and "Eugene and Elizabeth's Relationship Exposed" shot to the top of the news. These headlines overshadowed the previous ones leaked by reporters.
Richard also spent money to have the old headlines removed. As expected, the news caused another online frenzy. Eugene's girlfriend fans were especially furious. They couldn't accept their idol being in a relationship. They flooded Eugene's agent's Facebook page, demanding confirmation.
However, many people weren't surprised by the news. There had long been rumors that Eugene and Elizabeth were childhood sweethearts. But while they used to look like a couple, now they didn’t seem so much like one. Their behavior on the show didn’t resemble that of a normal couple; it seemed more like they had fallen out.
Eugene's agent didn't respond directly. Instead, she posted on Facebook, saying that Eugene would address the matter after he returned from the show. From the start, she had never supported Eugene and Elizabeth's relationship. Unable to stop it in the past, she had at least managed to keep it under wraps. Because of this, she had always disliked Elizabeth, thinking she was using Eugene to climb the ladder in the entertainment industry. Elizabeth knew about her attitude and had refused Eugene's proposal to become her artist.
Disliking Elizabeth was one thing, but being rejected by her made the agent dislike her even more. Now, she thought Eugene must have lost his mind to agree to expose his relationship with Elizabeth just to help Brenda. She was also unaware that the two had already broken up. She was still wondering how Elizabeth would use Eugene to gain resources after the relationship was exposed. She was truly fed up with Elizabeth.
That night was destined to be restless.
The next morning, many people woke up to a flood of news about the exposed relationship. Elizabeth's fame was about to explode online, drawing unprecedented attention. As a result, when the live show resumed, the number of viewers in the live room skyrocketed, even setting a historical record.
Arthur hadn't expected that the surprise live stream last night would not only reveal the sibling relationship between Elizabeth and Kevin but also expose Eugene and Elizabeth's relationship online.
Seeing that the headlines about Elizabeth and the Clark family, and Kevin and Brenda's sibling relationship had disappeared, along with the sudden exposure of the relationship, he guessed it must have been the Clark brothers' doing. He was disdainful of their actions, thinking their priorities were completely misplaced. To divert attention and protect their adopted sister Brenda, they exposed their biological sister Elizabeth's relationship. The kicker was that the other party in the relationship was the popular movie star Eugene, who had a massive fan base. This was harming Elizabeth.
He clicked on the headline and saw that the comments were overwhelmingly negative towards Elizabeth. Eugene's fans were trashing her, refusing to accept their relationship, and labeling her as manipulative. They accused Elizabeth of clinging to Eugene under the guise of being childhood friends, which they found despicable.
Many of Elizabeth's fans also couldn't accept the relationship; they preferred Elizabeth to be single or not associated with Eugene. After all, from the past to the present show, Eugene's fans had been relentlessly attacking and criticizing Elizabeth. This was intolerable.
They were eager to know how Elizabeth would react to the exposure of the relationship.
