Chapter 312 If He Want to Seek Death, There's No Way Out
Enrique's reaction had everyone doing a double-take. The ref rushed over, all concerned. "You good, man? Can you keep playing?"
Enrique awkwardly spat out the water, feeling like a total klutz. He nodded. "Yeah, I'm good. Let's keep this game rolling."
He noticed Elizabeth and Natalie giving Brenda the stink eye. They were probably plotting some payback for earlier. He promised Brenda he'd have her back, so he had to stick to it.
Brenda came over, acting all worried. "Enrique, you need a break?"
Of course, she didn't want him to take a break.
Enrique got up, grinning, "Nah, I'm fine. Just choked a bit. I can keep playing. I'll protect you."
Brenda looked at him with those grateful eyes. "Enrique, you're the best."
The crowd in the stands couldn't hear their convo, but the live stream viewers caught it all thanks to the drone. They were all like, "Enrique really loves Brenda!"
Richard and Arnold were just shaking their heads.
Arnold said, "Enrique's lost it again. Brenda's smile is giving me the creeps. What's she plotting now?"
Before, he might've thought Brenda didn't mean to mess with Natalie, but now he was sure it was on purpose.
"Why's she getting worse?" Arnold muttered.
Richard raised an eyebrow. "Maybe she's always been like this, just finally letting her real self shine. Haven't you noticed? Since she started playing today, she's stopped pretending."
The old Brenda would never have been so bold on a live stream, calling out Elizabeth and the others, or embarrassing Natalie in public. This meant she knew the online hate was too much to fix, so she decided to just be herself.
Arnold nodded. "Yeah. She's not just more assertive; she's showing a fierce, ruthless side. That fool Enrique, I saw him choke on his water; his bad luck's just starting."
Having had his own share of bad luck, he could totally relate.
Richard agreed, "For sure. The only question is how bad it's gonna get."
Enrique, too busy trying to protect Brenda, hadn't even noticed his bad luck kicking in.
Richard asked, confused, "Isn't he wearing a divination bracelet? Why's he still having bad luck?"
Arnold was just as puzzled. "I'm wondering the same thing."
Richard said, "Let's keep watching."
Back on the Soule field, the game was on.
This time, Elizabeth and Natalie were all over the ball, working like a dream team. They'd grab it, pass it to Raymond or Zachary, and boom, they'd score. Elizabeth's team was always ahead.
Natalie and Elizabeth were not only playing great together but were also on the same wavelength. They didn't go after Brenda directly, sticking to the Soule rules and keeping their cool, knowing Brenda would get impatient and come to them.
Brenda was thinking the same but hadn't found her chance yet.
And just like that, the first half was over.
Elizabeth's team was in the lead.
After a fifteen-minute break, the second half kicked off, and the teams switched sides.
Brenda said to Enrique, "Enrique, we gotta grab the ball more, or we're toast."
She noticed he seemed a bit hesitant around Elizabeth. She figured Enrique wanted to go easy on her, which ticked her off.
Since Enrique chose her, he shouldn't be cutting Elizabeth any slack. But she wouldn't say it outright; she'd find other ways to push Enrique to take control and go after Elizabeth.
Hearing Brenda's words, Enrique thought for a sec and nodded.
Even though he didn't wanna go after Elizabeth, they needed this win to prove themselves and get their pride back.
Plus, he had to protect Brenda, so in the second half, Enrique stuck to Brenda like glue, riding his horse close by.
Elizabeth saw this and almost felt sorry for Enrique. It was like he thought the losing Generational Blessings hadn't hit him enough, still sticking so close to Brenda.
Then Brenda started going after Elizabeth, trying all sorts of moves, but Elizabeth dodged and countered every time. And guess who kept getting the short end of the stick? Yep, Enrique.
Like, during one scramble for the ball, Elizabeth hit it at such a crazy angle that it looked like an accident, sending it flying toward Brenda's face. No foul there, and Brenda, having soaked up Enrique's Generational Blessings, dodged it just in time. But Enrique, drained and trying to protect her, took the hit. The ball smacked him right in the face, and he yelped in pain, his face swelling up like a balloon.
After getting sprayed with some medicated mist, he kept going. He kept getting banged up, whether it was the ball hitting his face and body or someone's club whacking his foot. His face, arms, and legs were all swollen, but with the game almost over, he gritted his teeth and pushed through.
Then Brenda tried to pull the same trick on Elizabeth that she used on Natalie. But Elizabeth hit back harder, dodging the move and giving it right back.
Brenda's club bounced back, her hand going numb. She didn't expect Elizabeth to be that strong. Trying to move her cue, her arm was too weak from the shock, and the cue fell on her own leg. She was about to collapse.
But Enrique was right there. As she was about to fall, he caught her, pulling her into his arms.
Enrique, though, wasn't so lucky. He lost his balance and hit the ground. Luckily, it wasn't too bad; he just got some scratches on his face and hands.
Brenda knew why Enrique fell. He was taking the bad luck for her.
She quickly helped him up, worried. "Enrique, you okay?"
Enrique's whole body hurt, especially his face and hands, which were burning.
He said, "I'm a bit sore."
Brenda checked the game time, saying, "Enrique, just a few minutes left. Let's try to tie it and go for overtime."
They were still a few points behind but had a shot to catch up. And even if they didn't win, she wanted to find a way to take Elizabeth out of the game.
Enrique wanted to ask for a break. But hearing her, he just gritted his teeth. "Okay, let's hang in there for a few more minutes."
Not far away, Elizabeth saw the Generational Blessings on Enrique merging with Brenda's.
The bracelet on his hand had two-thirds of the beads starting to crack. Even though he'd been unlucky, he'd only gotten minor injuries because the bracelet was soaking up the bad luck. But seeing the bracelet almost done for, if he got unlucky next, it could be serious.
Elizabeth saw Brenda helping Enrique up.
Given the situation, Enrique could've asked to leave the field for a break. That would prevent any more accidents, and the last few beads on the bracelet could still help him a bit. But if Enrique was gonna keep pushing his luck, there was nothing more to be done.
