Chapter 138 You Really Can Endure

Orlando always liked Elizabeth but didn't want to mess with Eugene's feelings. He warned Eugene once, but Eugene didn't care. Orlando didn't want to drag Elizabeth into it, so he stayed out of it. Now, it seemed Elizabeth couldn't avoid getting involved, even if she wasn't with Eugene.

Rebecca disagreed, saying, "No regrets. Elizabeth shouldn't put up with Eugene's nonsense, just like I shouldn't have put up with Hubert. Eugene didn't cherish her, so it's his fault."

Orlando chuckled, "I don't get you young folks and your love lives."

Eugene had been seeing Brenda behind Elizabeth's back and only wanted to get back together after they broke up. Why did he do that in the first place?

Rebecca raised an eyebrow, "I don't get your thing with my mom either."

Orlando, amused and exasperated, said, "You didn't just want dinner, did you? Spill it. If I can help, I will."

Rebecca asked directly, "Dad, did you know Percy isn't your biological son?"

Orlando's face changed. "How did you know?"

Rebecca realized she might have misunderstood Orlando before. Maybe he wasn't a love-struck fool after all.

"Elizabeth figured it out from their looks," Rebecca said, also mentioning Brenda and Percy were half-siblings.

Orlando wasn't surprised. "Elizabeth is sharp."

Rebecca proudly said, "Of course, Elizabeth is amazing."

She asked, "Dad, when did you find out?"

Orlando hadn't wanted to tell Rebecca before, but now he saw she knew a lot. No point hiding it now.

"A few days after he was born, I did a paternity test and found out," he said.

Rebecca was stunned. "So you suspected from the start?"

Orlando nodded, "Yes, I noticed something was off when she was pregnant."

"You had doubts, so you checked," Rebecca said, puzzled. "Why didn't you reveal the truth and get a divorce? You raised Percy, put him in charge of the Baker Company, and even had more kids with my mom."

She looked at him sympathetically. "You really can endure. I thought I misunderstood you, but you're still a love-struck fool!"

Orlando was frustrated that Rebecca thought he was a love-struck fool.

"If I were really a love-struck fool, you and your siblings might not even be alive now," he said irritably.

"When I found out the truth, I was furious. I wanted to confront Amy and divorce her. But I discovered someone was using Amy and Percy to plot against our family. I couldn't act impulsively, or we'd be in big trouble," he explained.

Rebecca thought for a moment and asked, "Then why did you marry my mom, this troublemaker? Did you really like her that much before?"

Orlando replied, "I was under a spell, a real one, not metaphorically. I liked her the moment I saw her."

He added, "I could only be interested in her and had no feelings for other women."

In other words, he had no desire for other women.

"Then one night, I don't know why, but I ended up with her. She got pregnant with Percy, and that's why I married her. Marrying her was an impulsive decision."

Because of this, he felt something was off. He was always calm and rational, not someone who got swept up in emotions. He knew he didn't love Amy, but he couldn't help being drawn to her, like he really liked her.

He paused and continued, "Then I found out the people behind her were serious trouble, and our family was in a tough spot. That's why Gary left Clifftonshireburg for that small town. Before he left, he told me to endure to unravel this conspiracy. We had to find out who was behind it and strike them down in one blow, or our family would face disaster."

Otherwise, how could he pretend to be deeply in love and tolerate Amy and Percy for so long?

"Having you guys was an accident," he said.

Since Amy got pregnant and moved in, he hadn't slept with her.

"When she found out she was pregnant, she didn't want you and planned to have an abortion. I was under a spell and thought I wouldn't have any more kids. Although I was disgusted by her and suspected she was being manipulated, I was still excited and happy about having you. Coincidentally, she had some health issues, so I had the doctor tell her that aborting you would harm her health. She didn't want to harm her body, so she had to give birth to you. Sure enough, she didn't like you. Especially as you grew to look more like me, she liked you even less."

He had been prepared to never have children. So when this unexpected event happened, even though he was disgusted by Amy, he didn't take it out on his biological kids. Instead, he genuinely liked them.

Kids were innocent, and since the accident happened, he welcomed it. They had his blood, so he would fulfill his duty as a father to care for them and protect them as they grew up.

Rebecca didn't expect such a backstory. She felt even more sympathy for Orlando. "Dad, you've really been wronged and suffered all these years."

Orlando sighed. "Indeed."

No one could understand the feeling of enduring disgust while having to pamper those two.

Rebecca said, "And you're really good at enduring."

To endure so much, to be disgusted by Amy and Percy, yet still have to pretend to love them. If it were her, she might not be able to do it.

Orlando sacrificed himself for the Baker family and the bigger picture.

Rebecca said, "Dad, if you went into showbiz, you'd definitely win a major acting award."

Orlando was both amused and exasperated. "You think I want to do this? For our family, for you guys, and for myself, I had to endure."

His eyes grew cold. "When the time comes to break the spell, I won't let them off easily."

Rebecca was a bit puzzled. "Dad, why are those people targeting our family? Is there something our family has that they must get?"

To arrange so much and set up such a big conspiracy, there must be a reason.

Orlando had already said so much, so he didn't hide it anymore. "Gary suspects they want the Generational Blessings accumulated by our family over many generations."

Rebecca's eyes widened. "They want to steal the Generational Blessings? But that can only be done via a dark art forbade by the special department, right?"

Orlando nodded, "Yes. That's why they have to secretly plan and wait patiently. The special department hasn't been able to uncover the people behind it. When the time is right, and they show up, we can catch them."

Otherwise, why would he endure such disgust for so many years?
