Chapter 452 Catch Him off Guard
Ten minutes later, Zachary stepped into the courtyard in a fresh set of clothes, his gaze softer as he looked at Elizabeth. "This time, I really owe you. Without you, I'd have been swallowed by that thing."
To have set up so much under Zachary's nose, aiming for his immortality, must have taken a long time. Now that it had suddenly failed, the other party must be going crazy.
Zachary's lips curved into a smile. "Indeed, it feels good."
Elizabeth asked, "Any idea who it was?"
He shook his head. "No clue. They're hiding too well. But now that they've shown their hand," he squinted, his voice turning icy, "I won't let them slip away." Targeting his immortality was as good as a death wish. He was ready to hunt.
Elizabeth nodded in agreement. "You're right. Whoever it is, we'll drag them out. Could it be Ethan?"
"Plausibly not," Zachary mused. "He doesn't have that kind of power. But he's definitely involved somehow." He had a gut feeling but needed to nail it down.
Elizabeth thought the same. She nodded. "Then let's catch them all in one go." These hidden dangers must be completely eradicated. She had a feeling that soon those people and secrets would surface.
She urged, "Can you leave here now? Let's hurry back to Clifftonshireburg to watch the show." It was not too late; they should still be able to book tickets back to Clifftonshireburg.
Zachary said, "I can. Help me book the tickets."
Elizabeth nodded. "Okay."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow after booking. "You're really going out in that?" she teased, eyeing his robe. With his looks and demeanor, he'd draw every eye in the airport.
Although Zachary kept up with fashion and knew what people wore outside from the internet, he had never left Aevum City. He said, "I don't own anything modern. Buy clothes outside the city first?"
Being able to leave Aevum City made him very happy, and he wanted to experience everything.
Elizabeth laughed. "You can buy them directly in Clifftonshireburg, as long as you don't mind being the center of attention."
Zachary smiled. "I don't mind. If you don't mind being noticed, I'll wear this to Clifftonshireburg." Even in Aevum City, he was the center of attention whenever he went out.
Elizabeth smiled meaningfully. "I don't mind at all. In fact, I think it's better if we make a grand entrance." Seeing Zachary out would definitely shock Ethan. It would catch him off guard.
Given Ethan's cautious nature, he might try to lure Zachary away and have Stanley deal with her. In that case, she could actually cooperate with Stanley to deal with Ethan. Let Ethan taste betrayal.
Seeing her expression, Zachary knew Elizabeth was up to no good again. He chuckled. "Alright, you arrange it. I'll follow your lead."
Before long, they were off to the airport. Elizabeth donned a hat and mask, with Zachary following suit. Their arrival sparked a stir, with fans quickly recognizing Elizabeth. "Keep your voice down," she urged them gently, while obliging with autographs and photos.
A young girl nearly tripped getting off the escalator, but Elizabeth caught her, murmuring reassurances. All the while, Zachary turned heads and cameras. As soon as they boarded, news blasted with headlines reading, #Elizabeth Loves Her Fans and #Zachary's Handsomeness Draws Attention.
Back in Clifftonshireburg, Ethan was floored by the news. Zachary's escape was unthinkable. His years-long plan unraveled before his eyes. Staring at Elizabeth's photo, malice welled up in him. "It must be her," he seethed. Everything Elizabeth got close to went off-script.
He then cursed Stanley for being useless. Stanley had gone to Aevum City to find Elizabeth but ran back to Clifftonshireburg after being threatened by Zachary. He instructed Leander to find a way to take Stanley to see the dead "Aaron" that night. Originally, Ethan had planned to wait for Stanley to confirm that Aaron's death was Elizabeth's doing. In that case, when Elizabeth returned, there would be a good show to watch. Who would have thought Elizabeth would bring Zachary to Clifftonshireburg, making things more complicated?
He had to find a way to get Zachary out of the way. Only then could Stanley perform well. He also hoped Stanley would be effective and kill Elizabeth this time. With that in mind, he made a phone call.
On the other side, Elizabeth and Zachary arrived at Clifftonshireburg airport, where Raymond was already waiting at the exit; he had arranged to pick her up. Raymond wore a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a mask. He stood tall with an outstanding aura, attracting attention even from a corner.
As if sensing something, Raymond looked up and saw Elizabeth coming out. His previously indifferent eyes lit up, and hurried over. "Elizabeth, let me take that," he offered, grabbing her bag and nodding at Zachary. "Mr. Murphy, good to see you again."
Zachary, liking Raymond, greeted him warmly. "Hello!" He saw through Raymond—his energy and affection sprang from Elizabeth's presence. Raymond's behavior was endearing, and Elizabeth indulged him fully. Zachary couldn't help but approve.
The three of them went to the house where Elizabeth was currently staying. They had just sat down to rest for a while when Elizabeth's phone rang. It was a call from Betty.
