Chapter 132 So That's How It Is
Rebecca hung up the phone.
She turned to Elizabeth, "I don't get why my mom treats Brenda better than me, Eugene, or even Percy. Could Brenda be her real daughter?"
Elizabeth laughed. "If Brenda were her real daughter, she wouldn't let Eugene and Brenda be together."
Rebecca had secretly done a paternity test with her siblings and confirmed they were Amy's biological kids. So, Brenda couldn't be Amy's daughter.
Rebecca thought for a moment. "You're right. But maybe Brenda's from my mom's side of the family?"
Amy treated her maternal family better than her own kids.
"Can you check if there's any resemblance between my mom and Brenda?"
Elizabeth chuckled, "Sure! Show me a photo of Amy."
Rebecca nodded, found an old photo of Amy, and pulled up a recent one of Brenda.
"Compare them."
Elizabeth took the phone. "Alright!"
She carefully examined Amy's photo, then Brenda's.
"They're not related."
Elizabeth wasn't surprised, but Amy's kindness to Brenda was odd.
She looked at the photos again and suddenly seemed shocked. "I just realized something big."
Rebecca leaned in. "What is it?"
Elizabeth gave Rebecca a complicated look. "Your dad's unlucky; he has a kid that's not his."
Rebecca was stunned, then looked at the phone. "My dad's unlucky?"
Then it hit her. "You mean my mom cheated? Percy isn't my dad's kid?"
She had secretly tested Orlando's hair too. She and Eugene were his kids, so it had to be Percy.
Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, Percy and Orlando aren't related, but Percy is Amy's kid."
Then she pulled up Brenda's photo again and enlarged Percy's face.
Rebecca's eyes widened. "Could Percy and Brenda be siblings?"
Elizabeth was shocked too. "They really are. They're half-siblings."
She added, "Your mom's something else. She cheated, had an illegitimate kid, and kept it hidden. And now Orlando's grooming Percy as an heir, right?"
Rebecca was stunned but then understood. "She really is something."
Everything suddenly made sense.
"No wonder she never liked us but favored Percy. If she hadn't accidentally gotten pregnant with us and couldn't have an abortion, she wouldn't have had us. No wonder she's better to Brenda and wants Eugene and Brenda together. Turns out Brenda is the daughter of her affair partner, and she loves her by extension."
Rebecca felt disgusted by her own mother.
Elizabeth now understood why Amy disliked her but liked Brenda. Amy often helped Brenda in front of Betty. So that's how it was.
Just then, Rebecca's phone rang again. Seeing the caller ID, Rebecca's face showed a bit of complexity. "It's my dad."
Elizabeth said, "Don't tell him about this over the phone."
Rebecca nodded and answered, "Dad."
She had a much better attitude towards Orlando. Despite his flaws, he always secretly protected her and Eugene. When Amy sent her to her maternal family, Orlando often sent money, food, and toys. When he found out she was being mistreated, he hinted she could live with Eugene. She called Gary, who took her in, thanks to Orlando's help.
She still had emotional ties to Orlando, especially now, feeling even more sympathy for him. After becoming the chairman of the Baker Group, he not only had to deal with family issues but also a cheating wife. Orlando was really pitiful.
She couldn't help but speak with some sympathy, "Dad, are you okay?"
Orlando, puzzled by her tone, replied, "I'm fine, what's wrong?"
Rebecca changed the subject. "Did my mom complain to you?"
Orlando said, "Yes, she told me about your conversation."
Rebecca pouted. "She's good at complaining."
She added in her mind, 'And seducing men, shameless.'
Orlando said helplessly, "You know how she is, why do you have to go against her?"
Rebecca said defiantly, "She's the one causing trouble. I don't owe her anything. I'm not lending her the divination artifact. If she gets it, I won't get it back."
She knew Amy's character well. Even if Amy said she was borrowing it, she wouldn't return it and would give it to Brenda. Especially now, knowing her mother's relationship with Brenda, Rebecca wouldn't lend it to Amy.
Orlando said with a wry smile, "What are you talking about? Don't say such things again."
Rebecca rolled her eyes. "It's true."
Orlando sighed. "What should I do? She ordered me to get the divination artifact from you today."
Rebecca said firmly, "I'm not lending it."
Orlando tried to persuade her, "Why don't you think about it again? Or find a way to deal with her."
Rebecca's dislike for Amy had reached its peak. "No need to think about it, she can't have any of my things."
Orlando seemed to think for a moment and said, "Why don't you ask Janet? I can't do anything."
Rebecca said, "That's exactly what I was thinking."
Even if Orlando hadn't called, she was planning to find Janet. Amy wasn't the only one who could complain; Rebecca could too.
Orlando's voice was filled with affection, "Okay."
Rebecca had the speakerphone on, so Elizabeth heard their entire conversation. She typed a few lines on her phone and handed it to Rebecca.
