Chapter 445 Did You Catch That Man?
As soon as Amy got hauled into the special department, they started grilling her right away. She kept denying she hired Aaron, swearing up and down it wasn't her.
But the special department had their tricks to get the truth without getting rough. When they showed her the evidence from her phone and transaction records, Amy had no choice but to spill the beans.
Still, she wouldn't say who hooked her up with Aaron and denied having a lover. She didn't even ask to make a phone call, fiercely protecting Ethan. Even if she had to go to jail, she didn't want to drag him down with her.
Since Elizabeth and Raymond weren't hurt and only the Clark brothers got bitten by bugs, they couldn't throw the book at Amy. She got slapped with a two-year sentence in the special department's prison.
For Amy, who'd been living the high life for years and saw herself as a rich lady, this was a total meltdown. She didn't want to go to jail; she wanted to go back to being Mrs. Baker. She demanded to see Orlando and her two sons.
The special department agreed and contacted the three in front of her, but they all had the same response. They said they had nothing to do with Amy anymore and didn't need to meet. This made Amy break down again, crying and shaking all over. She couldn't wrap her head around how things had gone so wrong.
Alaric and his crew were super efficient. After being locked up for two days, Amy was shipped off to the special prison to serve her time.
In the yard, Ethan listened to his student recount the whole mess, his face dark and stormy. Even though Amy was just a fling to him, she was still his woman. Now that she'd been caught and sentenced to two years, he felt like his authority was being challenged. He didn't buy for a second that Elizabeth had nothing to do with it.
"Go take down Aaron," he ordered, handing a piece of black-glowing iron to his student. "Use the curse sealed inside to do it."
Last time, when Elizabeth fought with his student and him, Ethan had collected her aura. This piece had a death curse mimicking Elizabeth's aura. The person hit by it would die quickly.
That grand evil wizard, Stanley Ortiz, was super sneaky; if he wanted to frame Elizabeth, he had to do it perfectly. The aura of the curse was key.
The student took the iron piece and replied respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Sanders. But I need you to inform Leander to divert the guards and mess with the surveillance. I need to pass by the detention room door once. Only then can I activate the aura in the iron piece to directly kill Aaron." This sealed curse needed him to be within 30 feet of Aaron to cast it.
Ethan nodded. "I'll handle it. You go ahead."
That night, in the corridor outside Aaron's detention room, the lights suddenly flickered and went out. The guards outside were also diverted. Then, the surveillance in the corridor suddenly showed static.
Inside the room, Aaron was looking at his new phone, keeping an eye on the corridor. Seeing the flickering lights and no guards outside, he felt a sense of tension. Alaric had warned him someone wanted to kill him, and Elizabeth had specifically asked Alaric to give him a protective gemstone. He thought those people wouldn't be so ruthless. This was the special department, and he wasn't weak either; it wouldn't be easy for those people to come in and kill him. Unless Ethan personally took action.
Aaron stared at his phone, wondering if Ethan had come personally. Two minutes later, a middle-aged man showed up in the corridor. He walked to the door and suddenly pulled out a piece of dark iron. Murmuring an incantation under his breath, he ran his hand over the piece of dark iron. Slowly, blood-red curse symbols began to materialize on its surface. With every ounce of his strength, he extracted the symbols one by one from the iron and sent them through the door.
Aaron was startled. He immediately employed his strongest protective measures. But the curse tore through his defenses with ease, even shattering the protective talisman his mentor had given him. Fortunately, the talisman also dispersed the curse.
Just as Aaron was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he saw the middle-aged man outside quickly forming hand seals and acting again. He awakened the last deep red curse in the iron piece and directed it into the room. The guy had obviously anticipated that Aaron would have protective artifacts, so this was the real killing move.
Aaron felt the curse entering from outside the door. For the first time, he felt a fear of imminent death. He could sense the strong evil magic and killing intent in the curse. It was comparable to his mentor's deadly evil magic. At this moment, he understood that this was a death curse from a high-level diviner. With such a person taking action, even his mentor's protective talisman was broken. What could he do?
Cold sweat broke out on Aaron's back, thinking he might really die here today. He watched helplessly as the evil curse approached. He couldn't help but let out a few terrified screams. He didn't want to die!
Aaron tried to dodge, but as the evil curse approached, his whole body suddenly became immobile. His body stiffened as he watched the evil curse enter his body. Then he felt a heart-wrenching pain, and a mouthful of blood spurted out. But this feeling quickly disappeared.
At this moment, his senses seemed to amplify, and he heard a faint "crack" in his ear. A few seconds later, his body suddenly regained movement. He hurriedly took out the gemstone from his pocket. As soon as he held it, the gemstone shattered completely, even turning to powder.
Aaron slumped down, breathing heavily. Fortunately, he had kept the gemstone Elizabeth gave him on him. Otherwise, he might have quickly become a corpse. He then looked at the phone; there was noise in the corridor, indicating someone was coming.
The middle-aged man quickly left. After a while, Alaric and Elizabeth entered the room. Seeing the two appear, Aaron breathed a sigh of relief. He asked with hatred in his eyes, "Did you catch that man?"
Alaric replied, "We were a step too late; Leander's people let him escape."
Of course, they had let him escape on purpose. Otherwise, how could they continue to draw out more people? This time, they not only wanted to catch Ethan but also to take down all those in the special department colluding with him.
Aaron said through gritted teeth, "Damn it."
Previously, Leander had contacted him, hinting that he would protect him and help him escape successfully. He hadn't fully believed it and had remained cautious because of previous schemes.
Now, it turned out Leander was indeed colluding with Ethan to kill him. Aaron gritted his teeth again; if he could escape, he would definitely settle this score with them.
