Chapter 425 Elizabeth Is Still the Best

Seeing those venomous snakes and centipedes, Raymond and the gang felt a shiver run down their spines.

Hubert and a few others frantically ripped off their jackets, set them on fire, and tried to scare off the creepy crawlies. But instead of backing off, the creatures got even more riled up, jumping onto Hubert and the others like they had a score to settle.

Hubert's face went ghostly pale as the creatures swarmed over them.

Richard spotted a centipede the size of his palm crawling up his leg and tried to shake it off, but it wouldn't budge. His face drained of color, and he couldn't help but yell, "Eugene, if I make it back to Clifftonshireburg alive, I swear I won't let your damn mom off the hook."

Kevin, with a snake wrapped around his arm, chimed in, "If we die, my family won't let your damn mom off the hook either."

Amy was trouble with a capital T. Her earlier schemes had caused Aaron to hurt Betty, leaving Zephyr in the hospital. Now, she had set her sights on Elizabeth, dragging them all into her twisted games.

Arnold couldn't hold back, "Eugene, your mom is a lunatic."

Even Hubert, usually the calm one, finally snapped. "Eugene, if we make it out of this alive, you need to send your crazy mom to a mental hospital."

Just then, a green spider the size of a palm crawled onto Eugene's neck. His face twisted in helplessness, "Don't just talk about it; I want to send my mom to a mental hospital right now." His mom had gone way too far, and he was about to lose it with these poisonous creatures. He shuddered to think what would happen if these venomous things went after Elizabeth.

Amy's intentions were truly malicious. He even posted on Facebook without blocking Amy.

Amy knew he and Rebecca were there too. This meant Amy was targeting Elizabeth without a second thought about them. Otherwise, he wouldn't have fallen into the same trap as the others.

He had been blind to ever seek her motherly love. Now, he was completely disillusioned, any last bit of familial affection gone. If he made it back alive, he would cut all ties with Amy.

Just as they braced themselves for the inevitable bite and pain, they felt a warmth coming from the protective amulets around their necks. The poisonous creatures seemed to scream in pain, falling off their bodies. They shook themselves off, still in shock, but the bugs were gone.

Hubert touched the warm amulet hanging from his neck. "The protective amulet worked," he breathed out in relief.

The others also felt that the amulets had saved them and let out a huge sigh of relief. Eugene remembered something that had puzzled him earlier. He muttered, "No wonder Elizabeth looked at our chests before she left. She must have noticed we were all wearing protective amulets and felt reassured."

Eugene's attention had always been on Elizabeth. Having grown up together, he knew her quite well. So he noticed her scanning their chests.

Kevin's eyes welled up with gratitude, "Elizabeth really is the best. Otherwise, we'd be toast today."

Arnold and Richard nodded in agreement, feeling the same way. Kevin sighed, "Those who complained about the price of these protective amulets would be the first in line if they knew what just happened."

Arnold chuckled, "No kidding. I want to get a backup."

Richard was especially relieved, "Good thing Enrique didn't borrow our amulets earlier. Otherwise, one of us three brothers would be in deep trouble today." Hearing this, Kevin and Arnold also felt a mix of relief and fear. They were more determined than ever to guard their amulets from Enrique.

Aaron, watching the scene unfold, looked at them in shock. "You all have magical artifacts on you," he said, his eyes lighting up with greed. "Hand over the artifacts, and I'll let you go." His creatures had been repelled; these artifacts were undeniably powerful, and he wanted them all.

The five of them clutched their amulets protectively. Arnold rolled his eyes at Aaron, "Do you think we're stupid? No way we're giving these up."

They had also realized something. Although the earlier bugs could bite them, they didn't cause any significant harm—maybe just some redness and swelling afterward.

However, the poisonous creatures Aaron released later were a big problem. That was why the amulets protected them.

Aaron's face darkened with threat, "Don't push me. I can kill you and take the artifacts anyway. Mrs. Baker hates your family, so I'll take care of you all."

In reality, this wasn't true; he just made it up. If anything happened, or if these people's relatives sought revenge, they would go after Amy.

Moreover, he had already targeted Betty before. This time, his target was Elizabeth, the biological daughter of the Clark Family. Since he had already deeply offended the Clark Family, he figured he might as well kill the three brothers too. With them dead, the other two would be terrified and would likely hand over what he wanted.

So he steeled himself and opened a leather pouch hanging from his waist. A shiny black centipede, only as long as a finger, crawled out of the pouch.

Elizabeth, observing from a safe distance with a small snake coiled around her wrist, noticed the excitement in the little serpent's eyes. It was smart enough to recognize a good meal. Elizabeth smiled, recognizing the mid-level Aether Serpent's potential.

That centipede might look small, but it emitted an aura of mid-level intensity in the late stage. It was probably raised by Aaron's mentor and imbued with his energy.

The amulets around the necks of the five men were carved by her when she was still a mid-level diviner. So they couldn't really withstand the centipede's attack.

Elizabeth decided it was time to take action. "Don't worry," she whispered to the snake, "if you want to eat it, you can." The tiny serpent rubbed against her hand affectionately, knowing its current strength wasn't enough but trusting its owner.
