Chapter 232 He Was Really Hair-raising
Richard rolled back home in the evening, phone in hand, still on a group video call with Hubert and Eugene. He pushed open his room door, chatting away, only to freeze in his tracks. Someone was sitting there, lit up by just the desk lamp.
It was Brenda.
Richard's heart raced as he realized his mistake. 'I should've locked my door,' he thought. Trying to stay composed, he entered the room, the phone's camera revealing its contents.Hubert and Eugene saw Brenda too and were just as stunned, watching silently.
"Brenda, what the heck are you doing in my room?" Richard blurted out, holding his phone at chest level, camera still on her. He felt uneasy but didn't want to end the call. Having Hubert and Eugene there, even virtually, was a bit of a comfort.
Brenda, in a black silk camisole dress that hugged her curves, looked at him seductively. "Richard, didn't you say if I dared to come to you, you'd dare to sleep with me? Well, here I am."
She blamed Richard for today's mess. If he hadn't turned her down, the other guys wouldn't have either. Plus, she wanted to look good and have better luck on the next reality show. She figured taking a bit of Enrique's Generational Blessings wouldn't cut it, especially since he'd be on the show with her. So, she couldn't take too much from him.
After mulling it over, she decided Richard was the perfect target. He was ruthless, and he had said he'd make her his lover. Plus, he was the hottest of the five brothers, tall and well-built. If things went south with the Clark family, she could use this to blackmail Paul and Betty.
Richard went silent, realizing Brenda thought he was a fool. He forced a smile. "I was just joking. Why'd you take it seriously?"
Softly, Brenda giggled and admitted, "I did take it seriously. I really like you!"
Richard felt a chill. "But I'm not into you. Let me take you back to your room."
He just wanted her out, ASAP. The whole situation was giving him the creeps.
Brenda smiled and reached out. "Alright, then carry me back."
Richard took a deep breath. "No way. Dad would make me kneel outside as punishment."
Brenda's smile faded slightly as she pouted. "But you promised that if I came to you, you'd sleep with me," she reproachfully remarked, giving him a disapproving look. "Typical guy, can't trust a word."
Richard got goosebumps. "Just forget I said that," he snapped. If he'd known Brenda was like this, he'd never have said those things.
But Brenda wouldn't back down. "No, I took it seriously."
Richard was fed up. "Take it seriously if you want, but I'm not playing along," he said coldly. "Either you leave on your own, or I'll get your etiquette teacher to come and get you."
Brenda was secretly fuming. 'This jerk doesn't keep his word. Fine, if he won't listen to reason, I'll have to go hardcore,' she thought.
Her expression turned icy. "Fine, since you don't keep your word, I won't force it. Just help me into my wheelchair and take me back to my room."
Richard wasn't about to carry her and he refused, "How'd you get in here? Just get back in your wheelchair the same way. Mom and Dad are watching closely, and there's the etiquette teacher. I can't risk it."
Brenda fell speechless because he was acting; he was the boldest in the family. This realization only fueled her frustration. She had approached him willingly, yet he was disregarding her allure."Then help me up," she said, reaching out.
Richard frowned and refused again, "Why do you need me to help you? You can get back on your own." Now, he was second-guessing everything she did.
Brenda was even more annoyed by his coldness. She hobbled back to her wheelchair. Sitting in it, she looked at him and said, "Then at least push me back to my room, okay?"
Richard just wanted her gone. "Fine, I'll push you back," he replied.
He walked over and started pushing her out. He planned to leave as soon as he got her to her door. He put his phone in his shirt pocket, camera still exposed.
After a few steps, Brenda suddenly grabbed Richard's hand. She turned and looked at him seductively. "Richard, can you share half of your luck with me?" she asked.
Richard was startled and was about to shake off her hand and refuse. But he felt like he couldn't control himself. At that moment, he just wanted to be good to Brenda and give her anything.
He nodded. "I..." Before he could finish, he felt a burning sensation in his chest.
He instantly snapped back to reality and instinctively shook off Brenda's hand, quickly stepping back.
Looking at Brenda in fear, he asked sharply, "What did you do to me?"
He reached for his chest. Fortunately, he had bought a Spell Scroll from Elizabeth earlier. Originally bought for peace of mind, he never anticipated its practicality.
Brenda hadn't expected Richard to regain his senses so quickly. She had lit a special incense in the room and used a spell scroll that Samuel had given her, which could make the person it touched lose their senses for a short time.
Although the effect didn't last long, it was usually enough for Richard to agree. That's why she used it.
Who would have thought that just as she was about to succeed, he would snap out of it?
And didn't Samuel say that after using the Spell Scroll, the person affected wouldn't remember what happened?
How did Richard not only remember but also realize something was wrong?
'This Spell Scroll is useless,' Brenda thought to herself.
She pretended not to know and murmured, "I just touched your hand, Richard. What's wrong with you?"
Then she looked at him with teary eyes. "Richard, do you hate me that much now? Can't I even touch your hand? You weren't like this before!"
Richard nodded. "Yeah, I do hate you quite a bit now. So please, don't bother me anymore."
He touched the Spell Scroll hanging around his neck, which had turned to ash. He didn't dare stay in the room any longer. If Brenda tried again, he would be done for.
"Well, if you don't leave, then I will." With that, he quickly opened the door and bolted out.
Brenda fell silent. She wasn't a monster, was she?
