Chapter 491 Epilogue: Life in the Past (Part 1)

In the Clark Mansion.

Betty received a call from the kidnapper and immediately contacted her sons to go together.

Eugene happened to be with Richard, and upon hearing the news, they also rushed over.

When the group arrived, they saw Brenda and Elizabeth with their hands tied behind their backs.

The two were sitting side by side on a long bench.

The kidnapper was holding a gun, pointing it at them.

Betty and the others negotiated with the kidnapper for a long time.

The kidnapper asked them to make a choice.

Brenda, with red eyes and biting her lip, said, "Mom, Loren, Richard, Arnold, Enrique, Kevin, you should choose Elizabeth."

"Although Elizabeth knows how to fight and is better than me, this person has a gun, which is quite dangerous."

"Elizabeth is the Clark Family's biological daughter. I am already very grateful to have been raised by you."

"I am willing to make this sacrifice."

Betty and the others, who were already somewhat biased, had only one thought in their minds after hearing Brenda's words.

'Yes, Elizabeth knows how to fight. If she is taken away, there is no need to worry too much. Brenda doesn't know how to fight and is so delicate. What if she gets hurt by the kidnapper?' Betty thought.

They comforted themselves, thinking the kidnapper was in it for the money. They had already given it to him and hadn't called the police, so he wouldn't harm Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, hearing Brenda's words, looked at the expressions of the Clarks and roughly guessed their choice.

She didn't say anything; it was pointless.

If she asked them to choose her, they would definitely call her selfish and think they should choose Brenda even more.

If she, like Brenda, hypocritically said to choose Brenda, they would take it seriously, thinking it was normal for her to say that because she knew how to fight.

In the end, they would really choose Brenda and not her.

If she wanted to cut ties with them, they would definitely say, "Didn't you tell us to choose Brenda?"

So, for these people who were already biased towards Brenda, whatever she said would be wrong.

She didn't want to become the kind of person she hated the most. She would just wait for them to choose.

Anyway, from the moment she was kidnapped, she had mentally prepared herself and didn't expect these relatives to save her.

Earlier, she had found an opportunity to pick up a small stone, and the rope tied behind her was almost worn through. She would save herself.

Although she had mentally prepared herself, Elizabeth still held a sliver of hope.

After doing so much for them at home, would they have a bit of affection for her and choose her?

Then she heard Betty say, "We choose Brenda. Let her go first."

The Clark Family's five sons also said, "Yes, let Brenda go."

The sliver of hope in Elizabeth's eyes disappeared, replaced by a look of sarcastic inevitability.

Indeed, she had already planned to distance herself from them.

After this choice, as long as she could return safely, she would cut ties with them.

The kidnapper, hearing their choice, looked at Eugene and asked, "What about you?"

Elizabeth also looked at Eugene, her boyfriend who had grown up with her.

Although she had been filming in a remote area and not answering his calls much because of a previous variety show incident, their contact had been less frequent recently, and their relationship had cooled a bit.

But he shouldn't be like Betty and the others, valuing Brenda more, right?

In Eugene's heart, Elizabeth was naturally more important than Brenda.

But when he arrived, he received a call from Amy.

She told him to make sure Brenda was brought back without a scratch.

Amy didn't like Elizabeth much to begin with. If he chose Elizabeth and Amy found out, she would have an even worse opinion of her.

Elizabeth was stronger than Brenda and knew some fighting skills. Her self-defense ability was stronger than Brenda's.

Moreover, he had called a few skilled bodyguards from the Baker Family to follow, who were ambushed outside.

Once the kidnapper took Elizabeth out, the bodyguards would help rescue her.

Eugene noticed Elizabeth looking at him with a trusting expression.

He felt a bit guilty, thinking he would explain everything to her later after rescuing her.

He spoke with some difficulty, "I also choose Brenda. Let her go first."

Elizabeth looked at Eugene with disbelief.

She had expected the Clarks to choose Brenda. Although it hurt, she could accept it.

But why Eugene? He was her childhood sweetheart, yet he chose Brenda?

Her heart ached, and her eyes turned red.

She looked at Eugene and asked, "Why?"

Last time, Eugene had interfered with the variety show spot.

He had taken such good care of Brenda during the show.

So, was his relationship with Brenda not simple?

She wanted an answer.

Of course, since he chose Brenda, no matter the reason, she and he were over.

No matter how much she had liked Eugene, she wouldn't want him anymore.

Eugene felt a sense of panic, "I'll explain to you later."

He would explain everything to her properly, believing she would understand and forgive him.

Elizabeth's eyes filled with sadness and determination, "No need. We're done!"

At this moment, the kidnapper reached out, grabbed Brenda's arm, and dragged her over, pushing her towards Betty and the others. "I keep my word. Since you chose her, I'll let her go."

Brenda was embraced by the Clark Family, and Elizabeth stood up.

The kidnapper suddenly turned around and said, "But I don't want to run anymore."

"I have a terminal illness and can't stand you, rich people."

"My child died because we couldn't afford treatment."

"Why should your daughter be pampered and worry-free?"

"Since you've abandoned her, I'll use her to vent my anger."

Elizabeth heard this and thought it was bad.

The rope in her hand had been cut by the small stone, and just as she was about to rush over and kick the gun away from the kidnapper, he crazily shot at Elizabeth, hitting her in a vital spot.

Elizabeth felt life slipping away and remembered what Wayne had said.

She would face a calamity in her life, and if she couldn't avoid it, she would die.

Elizabeth slowly fell to the ground, showing a regretful yet relieved smile.

She regretted not finding the person who harmed Wayne and avenging him. She regretted not seeing Rebecca one last time.

But she was relieved that she no longer had to face such a family.

She only wished that if she could live again, she would have nothing to do with these people.

So she looked at them with a cold and desolate gaze.

Using her last bit of strength, she said, "You chose to let me die. I remember that."

"Death is fine. Consider it repaying you for raising me. From now on, we owe each other nothing, and we have no relationship."

As for Eugene, he hurt her the most.

Before she died, she didn't want to say anything more to him.

Then Elizabeth closed her eyes, and her life began to fade.

Betty and the others, along with Eugene, didn't expect this to happen.

The kidnapper's words and the shooting happened so quickly that they were all stunned.

By the time they reacted, Elizabeth had already been shot and was lying on the ground, her life uncertain.

The kidnapper, knowing he couldn't escape, shot himself after Elizabeth fell.

The Clarks and Eugene looked terrified and couldn't help but shout, "No, Elizabeth!"

Eugene rushed forward.

He held Elizabeth with unprecedented panic on his face, "Elizabeth, I'll take you to the hospital. Hang in there."

Then he picked up Elizabeth and ran outside.

Betty and the five sons of the Clark Family also panicked and hurriedly followed.

Eugene reached the car, his hands and feet trembling as he tried to open the door.

Waiting for an ambulance would take too long; driving to the nearest hospital would be faster.

But holding Elizabeth made it difficult.

At this moment, Richard opened the car door first, "I'll drive."

Kevin opened the back door, allowing Eugene to get in with Elizabeth.

Kevin squeezed in as well.

Richard immediately started the car and sped off.

Eugene held Elizabeth, feeling her body temperature drop, and was overwhelmed with fear.

He looked down at Elizabeth's pale face and urgently shouted, "Elizabeth, don't sleep. Look at me."

"Don't scare me. Open your eyes and look at me."

He didn't dare check Elizabeth's breath; he was too afraid.

Kevin was also panicking, "Elizabeth, don't scare us. Open your eyes and look at us."

"We're taking you to the hospital right now."

He also didn't dare check Elizabeth's breath, fearing the worst.

Richard, driving, felt weak all over but forced himself to stay calm and drive.

He pushed the car to its maximum speed, and they reached the nearest hospital in just over ten minutes.

Eugene rushed into the emergency room with Elizabeth, "Quick, save her."

Soon, the emergency doctors came running.

They had Eugene place Elizabeth on a hospital bed and began examining her.

They found something wrong with Elizabeth; she wasn't breathing.

The doctor checked Elizabeth's breath and found none.

He lifted her eyelids and saw dilated pupils.

He used an instrument to check Elizabeth's heart. There was no heartbeat.

He could only look at Eugene and the others with regret, "She has passed away."

Eugene's eyes widened, "How is that possible? No way!"

"Doctor, quickly take her to surgery. She's not dead, just unconscious."

Kevin also said, "Yes, Elizabeth can't be dead."

"Please save her!"

The doctor knew Elizabeth's family couldn't accept the truth.

To be sure and responsible for Elizabeth, he had the nurses take her to the operating room.

They used instruments to check again and began some resuscitation measures, like cardiac resuscitation.

By this time, Betty and the others had also arrived at the hospital.

As soon as they arrived, the doctor came out of the operating room.

He shook his head and said, "I'm sorry, we've done our best. Please don't be too sad."

These words were unacceptable to Eugene and the Clarks.

"No, you must be joking."

"She's so capable. How could she be dead?"

The doctor said, "The gunshot wound hit a vital spot. She likely died instantly. Please don't be too sad."
