Chapter 441 This Joke Isn't Funny at All

Meanwhile, over at the Baker Villa, Orlando had already caught wind that the special department was making a move today. He didn't just come home from the office; he also called Percy, Eugene, and Rebecca, telling them to come home too.

Amy thought Orlando was going to stand up for her and give Eugene and Rebecca a piece of his mind. She figured that was why he called everyone home.

Sure enough, Orlando still had a soft spot for her. She looked at him with those lovey-dovey eyes, ready to show her appreciation.

She batted her eyelashes at Orlando and said in a playful tone, "Orlando, I knew you loved me the most. Those two ungrateful kids need a good lesson."

Then she pouted like a little girl. "Otherwise, they'll just keep picking on me."

Her over-the-top act made Orlando want to gag. If a young girl did this to her boyfriend, it might be cute. But Amy, at her age, pulling this stuff? It left him speechless. Did she really think she was still a teenager?

Since the kids hadn't shown up yet and the special department wasn't there, Orlando just smiled. "Yeah, they need to be taught a lesson." But he knew the real target would be different.

Amy's eyes were full of tenderness. She responded sweetly, "Orlando, you're the best." She scooted closer to him, trying to hold his arm and act all cutesy.

If she hadn't fallen for Ethan, she might have shown Orlando some real affection. But now, she could only apologize in her mind; Orlando's love for her was unreturned. Her heart was too wrapped up in Ethan. Now, she was just playing along with Orlando.

Orlando dodged her move and quickly said, "I need to make a call."

Even though Orlando had been putting on a show, he hadn't been close to Amy for years. Every time he saw her in a good mood, he knew she must have met with Ethan. So he'd pretend to want to get close, which would make her pull away.

He loved Amy too much to force her if she wasn't into it. So he'd just give up, disappointed. After a while, they just stopped being intimate altogether.

In Amy's mind, they hadn't been close for years because she had Ethan, and Orlando couldn't bring himself to push her. She thought she was winning in love.

So when Orlando got up to make a call, she didn't cling to his arm and didn't think much of it.

After a bit, Percy showed up first. He was feeling a lot better and knew what was going down today, so he had to be there. But he didn't let on. He smiled and greeted them, "Dad, Mom!"

Amy was all motherly to Percy, asking about his life with a caring face. After they chatted for a bit, Orlando pretended to hang up and smiled. "Percy, you're back!" Then he sat next to Percy and started talking about the company.

Amy couldn't join the conversation, but seeing the father and son so close made her happy. Eugene and Rebecca were unreliable; Percy was her rock. Right now, she relied on Orlando, and in the future, she'd rely on Percy. She always saw herself as a winner in life.

When Orlando was on his deathbed, she'd sweet-talk him into transferring half of his shares to her. That way, she wouldn't have to worry about Percy being ungrateful in the future, and he couldn't escape her control. Even though Percy would inherit and run the Baker Corporation, she'd still have a big say. She could also support her family again and keep her head held high in front of them.

Thinking this, Amy looked at Orlando and Percy with even more tenderness. This made the two, who noticed her gaze, get goosebumps.

Ten minutes later, Eugene and Rebecca showed up together. Eugene had gone out of his way to pick up Rebecca.

Rebecca smiled and greeted Orlando and Percy first. "Dad, Percy."

She was much colder toward Amy and said deliberately, "Mrs. Baker!"

Eugene followed Rebecca's lead in greeting. This made Amy furious. She looked at Orlando with a pouty face, her voice dragging. "Orlando, look at how they treat me. It's too much."

Rebecca was speechless. Over the years, Orlando had really been wronged. Even Eugene felt a chill; Amy's voice and tone were truly indescribable. Although Amy had always liked to speak in an affected manner, it had never been this exaggerated. Orlando had endured it for so many years; Eugene was truly admirable.

Orlando was done acting. He replied indifferently, "How is it too much? Didn't you sever ties with them? There's nothing wrong with them calling you Mrs. Baker."

Amy was stunned, clearly not expecting him to say that. In her mind, he should be scolding the two ungrateful children harshly now.

She continued, "Orlando, although that's true, they are too unfilial. Help me teach them a lesson."

Over the years, Orlando had played the role of a man blinded by love all too convincingly. So Amy still firmly believed that everyone would betray her except him. Her betrayal and all her schemes didn't matter to him. After all, he loved her deeply.

Orlando and Percy both fell speechless.

Rebecca couldn't help but say, "Mrs. Baker, do you even realize how old you are? If Percy had married earlier, your grandson would be walking by now. So, can you stop using this disgusting, affected tone? Could you consider our feelings, please?" She couldn't take it anymore; it was unbearable not to say it.

Amy's face darkened. She shot back, "What matters to you is how I act? You've severed ties with me; you're not part of the Baker Family anymore, so you have no say here."

Rebecca found Amy incredibly stupid, still not realizing something was wrong. But it was Orlando who had indulged her.

She looked at Orlando and asked in surprise, "Dad, when did I stop being part of the Baker Family?"

Orlando said, "Of course, you're part of the Baker Family."

Then he said something even more shocking. "Not only are you part of the Baker Family, but you will also be the future heir of the Baker Corporation. When you've had enough fun at Elizabeth's studio, come to the Baker Corporation to get familiar with it. When I step down in the future, you can take over the company."

This was his decision, and he made sure Amy could hear it. Didn't she covet the Baker Family's assets, treating them as her own? He thought, 'Well, let's start with this and give her a little "surprise" right from the beginning.'

Sure enough, Amy looked completely stunned. She stared at Orlando, asking in astonishment, "Orlando, what did you say?"

For some reason, she felt inexplicably flustered. Today, Orlando seemed different from his usual self.

Forcing a smile, she said, "This joke isn't funny at all." At that moment, Amy could only hope that Orlando would nod and confirm it was indeed a joke.
