Chapter 413 Can My Dad Still Get Rid of Her?
Vincent popped open the nightstand drawer and pulled out a golden aromatherapy pendant. Handing it to Elizabeth, he said, "Here it is. Ever since I started wearing this, my episodes have really gone down. I feel a bit better too. I only took it off this morning to change into the hospital gown."
Elizabeth took the pendant. "Mind if I open it and check it out?" she asked.
Vincent nodded. "Sure, go ahead." He was starting to realize Elizabeth was a legit divination master. Even though he had Whisperfade, the folks at the Mystic Divination Academy said he was fine. He was curious if this pendant was actually helping or hurting him.
Elizabeth opened the pendant and immediately felt a rush of Karma. She poured out the contents into her hand. There were two things: a talisman with a name and birth date on it, and a stone filled with Karma, probably from a Karma pit, good for about a year.
She said, "This thing is actually good for you. If it weren't for the Whisperfade you drank, you wouldn't have been sick and in the hospital this past year. But it only lasts for a year."
The Mystic Divination Academy folks were a puzzle. They could make such a Spellscroll and Karma stone, so they must've known Vincent's issue. But they didn't tell him and even misled him. Yet, the item they gave him was beneficial. Why?
Elizabeth figured the Academy probably knew who was behind Vincent's condition. They either couldn't say, didn't want to, or were scared to. Maybe they felt bad for deceiving him and gave him the Karma stone as a consolation. Just a guess, though. She needed to visit the Academy and dig deeper.
She looked at the Spellscroll and asked, "Is this your birth date?"
Vincent sighed in relief. "Yeah, it is."
Elizabeth wrapped the stone back in the Spellscroll and put it back in the pendant. "Keep wearing it. If the pendant turns black, check if the Spellscroll and stone have turned to ash. If they have, you don't need it anymore. It means it's either expired or saved you from something bad."
Vincent put the pendant in his shirt pocket and nodded. "Got it."
Natalie also felt relieved, happy that the pendant wasn't harmful. She asked eagerly, "Elizabeth, how can we get rid of the Whisperfade in my dad?"
Elizabeth replied, "I'll carve a special talisman to ward off evil magic. Vincent should wear it for seven days. Then I'll make a pill for him to take after those seven days. After a month, the Whisperfade will be gone."
Natalie looked at Elizabeth gratefully. "Thank you so much, Elizabeth. If you ever need my help, just let me know. How much for the talisman and pills? I'll pay you right away." Elizabeth helping her was already a huge favor, and she didn't want to be ungrateful.
Elizabeth got where Natalie was coming from and didn't turn down the offer. "Alright," she said. Taking the money would also make Vincent and Natalie feel better, like they weren't in her debt. She'd only charge for the cost of the talisman and pills.
Natalie thought for a moment and then asked, "Elizabeth, do you think my mom cast the Whisperfade on my dad when they first met? Did she approach him on purpose? And why doesn't she want a divorce now that my dad wants one?"
Elizabeth had been pondering this too. She asked, "Do you know your mom's birth date?"
Natalie nodded. "Yeah, I noted it down before." She then recited Piper's birth date.
Elizabeth remembered Vincent's from the Spellscroll and did some quick calculations. "Your dad brings good luck to your mom. If they're together, your dad's fortune gets shared with her. Your mom's birth date is actually pretty unlucky. The reason she's living well now is because she married your dad and has support from you and your sisters. Your dad's Generational Blessings have been taken by her, which is why, besides the Whisperfade, he's been getting more and more unlucky."
Thinking about Brenda's situation, being with someone could absorb some Generational Blessings. So Ethan, Natalie's biological father, probably had the same deal. He had many women, likely absorbing their Generational Blessings. And these women, with poor fortunes themselves, were willing to give him everything, including their Generational Blessings.
But the Generational Blessings absorbed this way had limited use for extending life. So Ethan kept having kids to absorb their Generational Blessings and then harvest them.
Elizabeth said, "That's why your mom doesn't want a divorce. Without your dad, she wouldn't have anyone to give her Generational Blessings."
Elizabeth also noticed a pattern with Ethan's women. They were selfish and ungrateful but very supportive of their own families, easily deceived. Their birth dates were unfavorable, and without interference from Ethan, their lives would be tough. They wouldn't be rich wives, and even a worry-free life would be hard to achieve, destined for hardship.
Moreover, they weren't hardworking by nature, so they clung to others. As they aged and lost their looks, they'd struggle to support themselves and face a grim future.
Now, however, they were living well, either as rich wives or comfortably supported by their children, always filling the gaps for their families. Elizabeth had Hubert look into Angela's biological mother's situation, which was the same as Piper's.
Natalie always knew Piper wasn't a saint, but she hadn't realized she was this bad. No wonder every time Vincent wanted a divorce, Piper would either throw a fit or act all sweet for a while. It was all about her own interests.
Natalie couldn't help but ask, "In this situation, can my dad still get rid of her?"
